Whumpee’s chin was guided up by two gentle fingers, and his eyes met Whumper’s for only a moment.

“You’re a toy. Not a punching bag.”

One trope I love is those few moments after Whumpee has been rescued, but before they’ve been released from restraints:

1. Throwing themselves against their binds because they just want to embrace Caretaker, who is keeping a cautious distance until they can assess threat/damage

2. Caretaker frantically asking if they’re alright even before they’ve removed Whumpee’s gag

3. When getting the restraints off wrists or ankles is the priority, leaving Whumpee to huff or whimper behind their gag until one of the rescuers finally removes it

4. Caretaker or other rescuers are in the room and Whumper is gone, but they need to check Whumpee’s restraints aren’t booby-trapped before they release them

5. Caretaker is badly injured or the room is dark, so they have to undo Whumpee’s binds by feel or with shaking hands

6. Whumper is still a threat, so getting Whumpee away from them as quickly as possible is a priority over untying them

7. Caretaker is so overcome with relief that all they want to do at first is hold Whumpee, until a muffled noise reminds Caretaker they’re still bound and gagged

8. Whumpee’s restraints are all locked, so Caretaker has to leave them again to go and find the keys

9. Whumpee is blindfolded and thinks it’s Whumper returning for them, either throwing out weak but defiant insults or begging them not to hurt them again.

Whumpee who despises being touched and so Whumper decides to "train it out of them" by putting them in a freezing cold room or putting them outside in the snow or something, leaving them there for a while, and then coming to get them like, "If you want to be warm, it will be through me holding you."

Caretaker raises their voice without thinking and whumpee immediately shuts down.

In a second they're on their knees staring off at nothing. Perfectly still. Perfectly quiet. Terrified.

It takes a few seconds for caretaker to react. As soon as they realize what is happening though, they're right there on the ground next to whumpee. They don't know if touching them will make it worse so they just hover.

They aoplogize, call whumpee's name, ask what can they do. Say they didn't mean to shout. Say they don't want to hurt them.

Whumpee nods, still not looking at them. They whisper that they know. They know it's for their own good. Caretaker only wants them to be better.

oh drug of choice? when a character sees their captured friend for the first time in months, muzzled at their captor’s feet, and angrily rips the muzzle off, turning all of their rage (foolishly) at the captor

Can you imagine a whumper with amnesia like

Whumper walks into the basement and sees whumpee in a corner

"excuse me what the fuck are you doing in my house?"

"you.. brought me here? Against my will?"

"oh shit."

Caretaker has to go back to the place whumper hurt them in order to save whumpee.

They'll fight the nausea and the anxiety that grows stronger with every step because nothing is more important than getting whumpee back. Even if they had sworn to never set foot there again.

It doesn't matter if their hands are shaking, or if every creaking floorboard is making them jump. They got out once and they will do it again.

Give me whumpers who do absolutely horrid things to their whumpee, with no follow-up comfort; But god forbid someone else tries to hurt whumpee—even worse, they try to steal whumpee away—that’s when whumper will burn the whole town down to rescue their beloved whumpee, only to drag them back into that old familiar basement.

“No one else gets to make you scream. No one. You will kneel at my feet, beg for my mercy. You’ll cry your sweet tears for me and only me.”

Bonus point if whumpee has stockholm syndrome.

Underrated Hostage Tropes

1) The “You’ll do” hostage Whumper has come to target one of Caretaker’s loved ones, but finds Whumpee instead. “Not who I was looking for, but you’ll do.”

2) The ‘grabbed in the heat of battle’ hostage When Whumper grabs Whumpee and holds them at weapon-point, a furious battle slams to a halt.

3) The unaware hostage Whumpee trying desperately to act normal and not give the game away, knowing that Whumper can hurt an unsuspecting Caretaker any time they choose.

4) The ‘maybe I don’t hate you’ hostage Whumpee and Caretaker have been at each other’s throats from the second they met, only for Caretaker to be unexpectedly panicked when Whumpee is threatened.

5) The self-sacrificial hostage Whumpee holds themself hostage, knowing they have information that Whumper can’t afford to lose.

"And now we wait," whumper whispers into whumpee's ear, holding them in place with an arm wrapped around their waist, a knife held to their throat.

Whumpee feels the cold blade against their skin and tries to stop themselves from moving and struggling, a thing cut already bleeding from previous struggles.

Their team is on their way, but whumper hides behind whumpee, making it impossible to shoot them without hitting whumpee. Depending on what they plan to do, whumper has enough time to cut whumpee's throat.

"Drop your weapons," whumper shouts and makes whumpee flinch in their grasp, the knife even closer to their skin now. "Drop your weapons or I'll cut their throat," they add and hold whumpee closer to them.

"Shoot them," whumpee whimpers and closes their eyes as they feel the cold blade draw blood again. "Shoot them, I'm not worth it."

Okay so picture this... a line up of heroes, all bound and forced to their knees in front of whumper.

Whumper paces in front of them calmly. They have their hands clasped behind their back as they begin to threaten or make demands of Leader. Then they slowly stop in front of our whumpee. Maybe they look the youngest, most inexperienced, or the most scared but something about them catches whumper's eye.

Leader's eyes go wide as they try to redirect whumper's attention back to them, but it's too late. Whumper places a hand under Youngest's jaw and lifts their gaze to force eye contact. They see the barely hidden fear behind a shaky mask of indifference and they *smile.*

Holding Whumpee face down on the ground? Classic, iconic, but consider: said ground being fresh, wet concrete and the longer they refuse to submit, the more likely Whumper will keep their head pinned in it so they suffocate
