Then, after Edwin tells Charles he loves him, the lighting is much warmer, Edwin seems much more confident and sure of himself. Charles is leaning on Edwin’s shoulder, gazing at him and grinning.

Charles is not really punk, he’s more of the mod/ska movement - even has a ska badge. Eighties punks had neon hair and mohicans whereas the mods/skas dressed the way Edwin does, the badges, the braces, the too short jeans with the white socks. Nearly all the boys I knew in the eighties dressed like Charles and were into Madness and ska bands.

charles as a character makes me wish i knew more about punk in britain and punk generally, i feel like there's so many interesting thoughts to be had about him being punk(ish) but i cant have them because I domt know enough about 1980s british punk!!!

Can anyone tell me why Edwin did the whole up and down glance, by god this boy in front of me is hot look at Charles in E6 when he said ‘leg work heavy’

Is there something about the phrase leg work said by Charles that really hits Edwin’s buttons?

It’s the exact same look Aziraphale gave Crowley when they were talking about car keys - this look

Just watching again for all the times Charles gazes at Edwin, all the times he watches him when Edwin isn’t looking, all the times Charles promises to stay with Edwin forever and never move on to presumably heaven, all the times Charles protects Edwin, all the times he scowls at Monty or gets angry when the Cat King steals Edwin away.

Sure, Charles, you’re not in love with Edwin…

Edwin trying to tell Charles to go away, he’s too loud and still managing to tell him he’s ’exceedingly charismatic’ is such a special moment.

Edwin just appreciates Charles all the time - thanks him, praises him, gives him credit. It must make such a difference to a boy beaten and mocked by his family and his so-called friends

Just thinking about Despair…

Now I was an avid reader of the Sandman comics when they came out, and in the adaptation I was happy with Dream and Death and Desire - they worked well on screen.

But Despair - she just didn’t come across well. She seemed weak, powerless, in thrall to Desire.

But now in Dead Boy Detectives - she has power. She is strong. She is scary! Despair is truly one of the Endless here.

I hope this is the Despair we get in S2 of Sandman

This was just after the Cat King tempted Edwin in the shape of Charles and got so very close before Edwin realised it was wrong and backed away so quickly.

Every once in a while I remember Tim and Sasha and Martin (and Elias too…) threw Jon a birthday party and told him to make a wish as he blew out the candles and he said he was wishing they all disappeared AND THEY DID….

Edwin at end of episode 1 when the witch attacks Charles - charges straight in, fists high, prepares to thump her hard.

See, Charles, Edwin can fight, he just needs the right motivation.

My parents had to sign it as part of the RAF, although both very low down - but when my mother worked in the tax office she also had to sign it as the confidentiality of taxes and tax returns was considered a vital tool to guard against blackmail…I’m not saying these are the most important people in the defence of the realm but only certain roles will mean you have to sign it -

I’ve worked in govt admin all my life and never had to sign it.

You know who signs the Official Secrets Act? The military. The secret services. Members of the government. Certain high ranking civil service members being read into state secrets.

You have to be working with knowledge and secrets about the defence and safety of the nation.

So the OIAR is not just an official government agency but it’s one that deals with the defence of the nation…
