I was very struck by how lalochezia on the prompt was defined as "The use of abusive language to relieve stress or ease pain" when the more accurate dictionary-definition of the word is the regarding the use of foul language.

Usually, Blue’s the one to bring some bug home from work; she’s either dealing with babysitting charges or restaurant patrons, both of which have the surprisingly powerful ability to transmit germs. The second most likely culprit is Gansey, who still travels a fair amount for research, spending days on trains ever since he learned they were more sustainable than flying. It’s a split between the other two; yes, Adam works, but usually it’s just him and a car’s engine, and most of Ronan’s Latin tutoring gigs are done online.

This time, it’s Adam. On Monday, he feels off ; he’s distracted at work, he zones out during dinner, but it’s all stuff that just happens sometimes. After an early bedtime and a solid eight hours of actual sleep in Gansey’s arms, though, he’s back to normal, the day before just a fluke. Halfway through his shift at the garage, when he’s refilling his water bottle for the second time, he realizes that the back of his throat feels dry. Again, he goes to bed early, this time in Blue’s bed with her head on his chest, and when he first wakes up, he feels a little better save for an ache in his back. Two oil changes into the day, though, whatever benefit sleep had brought fades entirely, and Adam’s throat hurts . He toughs it out, because it’s not like he’s sick -sick, but by the end of the shift he’s just so tired that he considers calling for someone to come pick him up. Instead, he texts the group to let them know to steer clear of him when he gets back.

Of course, no one steers clear of him; once Adam’s showered, Ronan settles him on the couch with soup (kale and sausage and potato), Gansey brings him tea (mint), and Blue checks his temperature and presses on the sides of his neck with her cool hands (100.1, and god it feels nice). They watch a recorded episode of Jeopardy and Adam falls asleep between Ronan and Gansey, then relocates to his bedroom as the familiar music plays at the end of the episode.

He wakes up sometime in the middle of the night to Ronan shoving his way under the covers and burying his head under Adam’s chin. “The hell, Ronan,” he murmurs, and ugh, he sounds like shit in addition to just feeling like it. “Shouldn’t be here.”

“‘m sick.” Ronan’s words are muffled against Adam’s shirt, and Adam’s heart sinks. “Throat hurts an’ I can’t breathe.”

“Maybe get your face out from under the covers, dumbass.” 

With a grumpy sound followed by a sniffle, Ronan shifts positions so that his head is beside Adam’s on the pillow. “It okay if I sleep here? ‘m not gonna keep you up?”

“I’ll just kick you out if you’re too squirmy.” Adam kisses Ronan’s forehead, then rolls over and fits himself into Ronan’s arms, his boyfriend’s congested breaths soft against his neck.
