Taking a seat next to the brunette, Preston settled his gaze over her. She was unfamiliar, but then against most in this city were as he ordered himself a bourbon. It was still early, though he had finished late at the office which was how he found himself occupying the bar stool now. So with another glance towards the woman, he stretched out his hand. “Highlights, maybe I should consider it.” 

“Just my two cents.” She said shrugging, stirring her straw in her glass drink. “Might definitely give you a summery kind of look.” Rachel grinned. “I’m Rachel by the way, sorry for giving you hair advice before introducing myself.”

Patrick couldn’t help but chuckle, nodding his head. “Rachel H… I like that,” he glanced off towards his wife who was mingling with others. A small smile came along his lips before he glanced back at Rachel. “I think there’s a dance floor -” he pulled his hand out of his pocket to gesture towards some people dancing. “ - there.” He turned his head to look over at her once again. “Why do martinis remind you of masquerades?”

Rachel smiled, looking into his eyes as they trailed off. It was so likely her crush from the coffee shop would be here, looking even better than on Monday mornings. She couldn’t help her curiosity and followed his gaze, leading her eyes to the woman she had became some-what of friends with after her altercation on the street. “Oh shit!” She let slip, seeing the woman. “That’s probably one of the only people I know in this room.” Rachel said. “What was her name again shit... Amelia..! Yeah, yeah. I think that’s right.” The brunette exhaled, happy she had found a familiar face to talk to once her conversation with Mr. Hunk ended.  “Oh wow, I guess there is. They don’t look too lively though.” She admitted, chuckling a bit. “Oh man, I don’t know. I guess the fanciness of it? You can’t tell me someone would look absolutely amazing with a mask on drinking one of these.” She raised her glass a bit.

“I promise I’m not stressed!” Aurora raised her hands up in defense. She was determined to have an enjoyable time tonight at Casino Night. Everything looked so exciting and there was so much to do and so many faces to see. Yet, her social anxiety was wanting to get the best of her - as usual. Sometimes she wish that she could just tell it to shut up! It always seemed to ruin things for her. “My date for tonight went off somewhere, but should be back soon. I guess I’m just not the best in social settings?” she tried to explain herself. 

Rachel gave the girl a sympathetic smile. “No, no. I didn’t mean it like that. More of just a very cool collected demeanor.” She replied, watching more of the crowd of people than eye contact with girl, in hopes maybe it’d make her feel more relaxed. “Yeah, don’t worry you’re not alone in that. I feel like I can hardly breath since the second I walked in.” She laughed, smiling.

Attending an event where the Royals would be present was going to be challenging. To see the faces of the people who trashed his beloved place of work. Despite no one knowing exactly who was apart of the Moonlight trashing, he couldn’t track one single person down. He wanted to punch each and every one of those bastards out, he thought of his fight with Christopher Krongold, and it just made his blood point. He looked around the room, with a drink in hand trying to talk himself out of doing something rash. As a woman approached him, he turned his head and threw a small smile and chuckled in her direction. “Well, this is New York, very few of the smiles around her are actually genuine.” he stated. Though looking at hers he leaned his elbow on the surface nearby. “Though yours does look genuine. How might you explain that?” He teased before bringing his drink to his lips. 

Rachel laughed softly at his comment. “I don’t know how true your theory is, but I’ll take your word for it. You seem like you’ve been here longer than me and also probably have a better bull-shit detector.” She brought her martini glass to her lips, taking a small sip. “Mine?” She asked swallowing her sip down the wrong pipe. A small cough came through her lips but was quickly pushed down with a goofier smile. “I don’t know..- I guess New York hasn’t truly seeped into my spirit yet. “

Patrick chuckled as he slipped his hands into his pockets. “You know… You aren’t the only person in this town who tends to have a shit problem with taxis.” He turned his head to look over at her as his lips parted slightly before nodding his head. “Actually, I remembered your name. I had a friend while I was growing up.. Her name was Rachel… So every person I meet whose name is Rachel… I always remember.”

Rachel smiled, “Well then, I guess I’ll have to go by Rachel H. so you can keep your Rachel’s organized.” She joked playfully, taking a sip from her drink and moving her eyes to focus on the crowd of people. “I wish there was more dancing going on. I mean I know this is a casino kind of party..- event, but this martini has me kind of wishing this was like a masquerade ball.”

Patrick had been bouncing between confronting Dallas and staying in his corner and it was probably evident on his features that he was currently struggling. His head turned when he heard a voice, a small smile came along his lips. “Hey, at least there are no taxis in here to ignore us.” He cleared his throat. “But you’re right, I should look like I am at least enjoying myself.”

Rachel laughed, remembering their encounter on the street. “Yeah sorry, that was probably not a great first impression.” She chuckled. “Gotta keep the jig up, or people will start asking questions.” The brunette pointed to herself playfully. “I’m Rachel by the way, I don’t want to stress you out with having to pretend you remember my name.”

Nyla turned to a woman with a cold stare, eyes softening when she realized who she was. Ah, well if it wasn’t the only woman in NYC Nyla had been even remotely intrigued by upon learning of their existence. She saw the girl once in passing and sensed relatability. She hadn’t had the slightest clue of why the woman had risen her antennas, but she was looking forward to finding out tonight.

“I’ve seen you before,” she mused aloud. Then, she smiled one of the same smiles she’d seen randoms flashing towards other randoms ever since she’d arrived at this event. “I am not stressed,” her lips tugged downward, “I’m bored. People watching is usually more entertaining than this.”

Involuntarily Rachel’s eyebrows raised slightly, surprised at the others words. She hadn’t seen the woman before, there was no possible way she would have forgotten her if she did, there was such an air of confidence that melted from the woman. “You have?” She questioned, a small warm smile across her lips as she walked closer to the other. Rachel sighed softly, leaning against the wall. “Well, bored is better than stressed I guess.” She replied, looking over the crowd of people dressed to the nines. “We could always make it more entertaining..” Rachel looked to the side at Nyla, smiling before pointing to a random couple having a conversation. “What do you think about them? My guess is they’re trying to figure out how to deal with the fact that they look like siblings.” The brunette chuckled a bit, beginning to relax.

Rachel looked him over, “Well it’s not a bad look on you.” She complimented. “I guess,” her replied left with a sigh. “I don’t really know how to gamble well, or really know anyone either for that matter.” She chuckled, taking a sip from the glass in her hands.

Dallas had taken a step back and found himself a corner comfortably to relax. He was sure Aurora had found her friends or something along those lines so he took the moment while thoughts overtook him. When he was jostled from it by someone speaking it took a moment for the words to register. “Is it obvious these kind of things aren’t my scene?” he covered with a smaller smile, but it didn’t reflect how he was feeling inside.

“It’s not..- not obvious.” She answered truthfully. “But I don’t blame you, it’s quite overwhelming out there. Everyone looks so beautiful it’s like everywhere I look my breath gets taken away, so there’s just absolutely no where to breathe.” She joked, in an attempt to alleviate him from whatever thoughts were roaming.

Owen wanted his first public outing to be perfect and while it had been going extremely well so far, better than he had dared to hope he still had put a lot of pressure on himself to make sure that Liam had the perfect night. Liam had gotten whisked away by one of the many people he knew and Owen had managed to get lost in his thoughts. Only being shaken by them when he heard someone talking to him. “Oh hi there.” Owen said looking down at his feet embarrassed for a moment before looking up at the woman and smiling. “Believe it or not I’m actually having a great time.” Owen said with a warm chuckle. “I suppose I am a bit stressed though, this is the first time my boyfriend and I have gone out to a public event like this and I just want everything to be perfect for him.” He shrugged before he looked up and took in her outfit a smile crossing his lips. “I must say you look exquisite, you really embodied the theme well. It’s a great look on you darling.”

Rachel’s shoulders relaxed when she heard how warm the others words came out. She let out a breath and smiled. “Well good, I’m glad you’re having fun.” She grinned. “Wow! That’s exciting,” the woman spoke genuinely, “well if he’s with you I’m sure that’s all he’s going to need to have a great time.” The brunette gave him a hopefully reassuring look. “Me?” She replied dramatically, doing a little playful spin. “Why thank you.” She laughed, “It’s not every day I get to play dress up, had to take advantage of it.”

Rachel’s eyes squinted slightly, but she didn’t want to pry into his issues so early into the night. “Whatever you say.” She digressed, walking up to the wall and leaning on it, looking down at all the people mingling. Her head turned towards him when he turned the question onto her. “Oh,” she laughed, “I’m sure i’ll get out there at some point.” She huffed, trying more to convince herself than him. “I don’t know how to play poker. but dressing up kinda beats sitting at home.”

open event starter- 

There wasn’t much to do when you first arrive to an event where you know maybe two people tops. Rachel was wondering around, chuckling at the feeling of her dress swaying, she was not used to wearing such fancy garments outside of the comfort of her bedroom. It didn’t take long for the woman to run into someone, she was rather confused why the other was standing alone, and looking so stressed. Against her better judgement, she approached. “I think you’re supposed to look like you’re enjoying yourself.” she teased playfully. “You look stressed, is everything alright?”
