A little book review

I recently bought @orriculum‘s book Pastel Spells. I was very lucky that it didn’t get ruined because I didn’t get it out of the mailbox in time and it was caught in a rainstorm. 

Today I took a little peek inside. As a disclaimer about my craft, I do mostly fluffy “good” spells. I have friends that have nicknamed me Glinda because you know… Glinda the Good Witch. So this book was rather up my alley.

I’m going to start with criticism simply because I don’t have much and it is rather minor. There are a few misspellings and grammar issues in the book but hey. That isn’t exactly a big deal. There are also a few issues in formatting where some things look a little weird. I don’t think that the formatting issue is Orriculum’s fault. But again. So minor.

Now the best thing I saw in this book is that the spells are very simple! Most of the spells have rather easy to find ingredients and most of them you probably already have. They are written very clearly but leave room for adaptations for your personal beliefs and practices. 

I believe that this book is helpful for new witches that want to do some spellwork that is simple but productive. The categories listed in the table of contents are: 1) Romantic Spells, 2) Sexual Spells, 3) Anti-Love Spells, 4) Platonic Love/Friendship, 5) For Help With Relationships, 6) For Sour Relationships, 7) Self Love, 8) Self Care- Habits, 9) Self Care- Emotional, 10) Healing, 11) Gender & Orientation Spells, and 12) Curses. There are (if  counted right) 115 spells total and most of them are only 1 page long. In total there are 139 pages. For closeted witches, the spine is solid pastel pink. There are only witchy markings on the front and back covers so it can easily be put on a shelf surrounded by notebooks or other books. It is also small enough to be easily put in a bag.

On the price: I was happy with it. $7.50 (US) to purchase in paperback, FREE with Kindle Unlimited, and I believe $5 (US) for a Kindle version (I may be wrong on that price). I purchased the paperback because I like to make notes in margins. It was a good price for what you get, I believe. 

So, overall, I believe this is a nice little book of spells particularly for a new witch. It is also good for people that want to unleash their inner Glinda (look. This is the best description I can think of don’t come for me) and do some nice fluffy spells. Is this a good book for experienced witches? That is a matter of opinion. I think that everyone needs a few easier spells in their practice. However, a lot of experienced witches already have made their own spells that fall into these categories. Personally, I think it is a nice little book with some nice little spells that is good for anyone. It is all a matter of taste.

Anon asked me a bit ago if I had any rituals or spells that promoted self love/helped with anxiety & depression. 

(this is not intended to replace medical treatment or medication!)

so I decided to post my “do all” spell Jar and Home protection Jar that have worked great for me; they calm me down and have granted immediate helpful petitions. The protective and cleansing aspects of both help fight fear, it calls for luck prosperity,strength and healing which can help symptoms of anxiety and the verses instilled in them serve as a reminder of our worth and Gods love for us

Ingredients:

Basil:Luck, love, wealth, protection, cleansing, the cross, blessings

Rosemary:cleansing, mother Mary the life of Christ, protection, strength, exorcism

Thyme: healing purification,love, courage, Mother Mary, Jesus

Fennel seeds :protection, cleansing, strength, praise

3 Bay leaves:protection, success, healing, prosperity, the resurrection 

Sea salt:purification,cleansing, protection of Jesus

Cloves:protection, cleansing, prosperity, love

Parsley:protection purification, good luck, passover

Cascarilla: Protection, purification, cleansing, God

Cinnamon: prosperity, protection, luck, Gods love

Coffee: Positivity, protection,luck, love, effectiveness, grounding 

Blessed Olive Oil: healing, peace, protection, The Holy Spirit 

Piece of paper 

Personal object, such as jewelry, a photo, hair or nails etc

(optional) Holy object and/Gift from God such as a piece of rosary, medallion,crucifix, prayer card etc, i used a piece of a rosary made from Olive tree from Jerusalem and a feather i associate with my Angel, any object that holds spiritual meaning for you works

3 White teal light Candles and (optional lavender, myrrh, frankincense etc incense )

an empty container 

Psalms 23,64,  65, 26:4-7, 70, 4, 119:17-24, 29, 34,61, 16, 77, 41

Steps:

Cleanse and prepare yourself with a ritual bath and prayer 

Set the mood with music that makes you feel positive, calm and relaxed

light your incense and the the 3 candles, preform the sign of the cross and recite the Lords prayer

with the incense or just your hands, pray over and cleanse all your ingredients and annoint them with the olive oil

while praying to God your intentions, write down the psalms, a petition to the Trinity with your intention for the spell and the sigils of the 4 archangels 

fold the paper or roll it and place it in the container along with the optional holy object or gift

on each one of the bay leaves write the Hebrew name for the Trinity

one by one place the ingredients in the container while focusing on the properties of each ingredient and how you want it to work for you

after all the ingredients have been added, allow the candles to finish burning on top of the containers to charge them while you pray and meditate. 

use the melted wax to seal only your home Jar

Use olive oil to anoint both jars and then yourself

preform the sign of the cross and the Lords Prayer, thank God and give them thanks!

Dispose of leftover materials safely !

To activate your home Jar: You can continuously charge it by burning a new candle over it and praying

To activate your spell Jar: Hold the Jar and Pray your intention and shake it to active it. sniffing the heck out of it is optional but super satisfying and soothing (my husband said it smells like “success” so it cant be that bad)

Hello there. I was hoping to ask for some advice on being a Christian witch. I am one myself but it still seems contradictory to me. How do you usually perform spells and what not? Do you have any thoughts on the subject as a whole? Thank you for any help!
