Back in 2004, I was just a girl collecting bjd that was ranting with her friends collector in chat, sad and angry, after learing that Lilicat discover her first doll recasted. What we can actually do, to contrast this unbearable phenomenon? With that in mind, the “Pro bjd artists” movements was born. At first just the “pro bjd artists day”, then the firsts tag, the phamplet for your local conventions, the slogan for the community. But the recaster have more and more power, the phenomenon is far from fading and we are still here, asking each other: what we can do? So, with this in mind, that same group of friend decided to try something more tangible and the first no-profit Italian cultural association is born: Jointed souls. Here we are. A baby that has a long way to go, but is legal, is real, and we will use it as a springboard for your dream: inform and help your community to grow, to eradicate the recast habit (because for the neebies is often the first choice), to partecipate at all the European convention we can, with info, tutorial, enthusiasm. We have so much ideas and we soon put all on the socials, in italian and in English. For now I put here all the links, we hope to become soon bigger and useful for this beautiful community

It’s a pretty short list of people who bought Abaddon. One of them is straight up a total piece of shit, or somebody didn’t do a background check on their secondhand buyer.

Please remember that being neutral toward recasts actively harms artists. Some people think that it’s not a big deal when a larger company like Soom gets ripped off (it is), but the sale of those recasts gives counterfeiters both the funds and the incentive to go after people like Rumpeldoll. Recast factories have to keep churning out new product, so no artist is safe.

The BJD secondhandmarket is dying.

The BJD secondhand market (outside DoA) is dying. Dolls are being sold for way under the value and even then many people find it way too expensive. 

Selling dolls outside DoA has become a hassle. I am selling several dolls now and I cannot wrap my head around how many messages and comments I have had with “It is too expensive” “I am not paying that.” 

One of the dolls I am selling has a value around 500$. I bought it for that, it is in mint condition, and there are extra parts with it now. The highest offer I got is 150$. Normally you could sell dolls around minus 50$ of the value, but now… Now the biggest excuse is “I can get that one for a lot cheaper from China.”

Recasts are destroying the secondhand market. 

And soon there won’t be any chance to sell legit dolls for the usual values. Then legit secondhand dolls can’t cost more than the price of a recast. As long as people grow up in this hobby with the option to buy a cheap fake compared to an ‘expensive’ legit, the secondhand market will crash.

And it needs to stop.

I am going to be so honest with this whole issue facing the Luo recast issue. Those BJD companies should have trademarked their dolls LONG AGO. They should have taken out a patent LONG AGO. The only person to blame here are the legit companies themselves. In the business world you should know that people will try to steal your ideas if you don’t protect them. Patent your designs, your logos, your dolls. This is coming from a pro artist and business major.

please, don't support recast market, don't buy it on aliexpress, ebay, amazon, don't make excuse, don't support this thief!

if you whant to repent and come to the legit side, don't re-sell your recast, just keep it we have to stop this market.

So in recent news, it’s seems like the recast situation just got 100x worse….

I saw on @puffypuffers insta with screen caps from a Dollfie Dream FB group that Luo, one of the top recasters in China, is now in the process of filing for trademark of various BJD companies to own their trademark.

Which means that those companies he’s filing for to “own” were to sell in China, from Taobao to even doll shows, they could face legal actions and could never sell in China again. The list of companies that have been effected and having pending trademark is already extensive, companies that aren’t even in China such as Dollshe, Fairyland, Iplehouse, Soom, Lillycat, Marina Byockova, Peaks Woods, DOLK, Bambicrony, Cocoriang, and so much more, he’s also even added trademarks in the US for some companies as well. Luo has every intention of chasing out the “competition” of the companies themselves so he can sell freely with no repercussions.

With him doing this, he’s literally eliminating the companies that he recast from, so will probably be a point where you no longer be able buy originally cast of those companies doll, but you’re only be able to buy cheap resin copies because those companies will eventually shut down due to losing a part of the market they sell to

I don’t know how else more to say that the recast situation just gone past ignoring now, because this gone from bad to beyond worse.

If recasts are such a big deal to bjd companies then why don’t they sue recasters like China BJD and be done with it? Or maybe they don’t care as much as you guys think they do.
