Terracotta monkeys set Lanka on fire.(1/1) . ପୁରା ଉଅାଁ ଶ୍।।1/1 Lanka Podi was celebrated in Sonepur amidst much fanfare. In practice since the 8th century, the festival, also popular as Saptapuri amabasya(pura uaans), is a speciality of this region. Apart from the customary rituals of worship by women, the festival is marked with recreation of scene of Hanuman burning  Lanka. Children wrap terracotta statues of monkeys in cloth, douse them in kerosene and set them afire.  The statues are then mounted on wheels and pulled through the streets of the town. . The ritual takes place from the belief that Sonepur was Lanka, the golden city of Ravana. On a small island near Sonepur on River Mahanadi there is a temple of Lankeshwari. . Every year to encourage the rituals,sonepur municipality organise competition whoever taken their hanuman to the Lanka Podi ground frst,will be awarded with prizes.😍🤗😍🤗 .
