something i find interesting, if not encouraging, is how with the way mental health awareness and trauma theory have become completely subsumed into popular millennial/gen z culture, there hasn't been a simultaneous movement toward a more empathetic understanding of others' behavior - if someone who seemingly suffers from mental illness or some form of c/ptsd behaves badly, or even just gets on your nerves in some harmless way, the party line is never "everyone is dealing with their own shit and i am not the personal arbiter of what is or isn't forgivable behavior" but rather "well EYE have ALL THE TRAUMA AND MENTALL ILLNESS IN THE WORLD and EYE would NEVER act like that!!!" like i said, not encouraging, but a fascinating case for the idea that this movement has been driven not by compassion for others but by narcissism and solipsism, and above all, compassion only for oneself
