@theperfectladiesman
The first thing that caught the hanyou’s attention was that the kid he’d bumped into had pointed ears and a youkai marking. The second was that he was bald. Scratch that. Almost bald. What kind of child would make such a poor fashion choice? Wasn’t it only monks….? But, he didn’t think those stuck up, holier-than-though bastards would accept someone not human. Gojyo had also taken notice of how sturdy the boy was. For a split second in the beginning, he almost thought he’d just bumped into a large rock or something.
“No, it’s not alright. I should be lookin’ where I’m going.” Instead, he’d been too distracted looking over at a couple of attractive women.
Was this kid alone? Gojyo glanced about but it was just the two of them. After a couple seconds, he looked back down at the quiet boy who wouldn’t look at him. For some inexplicable reason, he couldn’t just walk away yet.
“As an apology, how ‘bout I buy ya some food?”
Fate was a hard one. Genkai was in a place where he believed fate to be a major factor in life, but he also knew that it could be changed in the right circumstances. And if thats the case, is it really fate? Was it fate that he would be here in this very moment so that this man would bump into him? A man that he was certain he has seen at some point before?
Genkai fully expected the other to put the blame on him, for being in the way, or even simply walking away immediately after. Sometimes in situations like this, Genkai would even expect others to get physically abusive and threatening towards him. After all... there still weren’t many that cared for youkai. Perhaps because this man was a hanyou, he didn’t see a point? Either way... something big was coming up... he could feel it. Something about this man and the company he may keep... something is changing.
Tumblr media
Amethyst eyes took even more surprise at the offer, finally looking back up at the red head, only for a brief moment before shaking his head. “No... I’m plenty full... and I’ve taken up enough of your time as is...” He spoke, nodding his head respectfully towards him before turning and continuing on down the road. Pausing only once to look back at the man once more. “Thank you...”

Gazing to the side as the man tumbled back to the ground, Genkai didn’t bother to move to try and catch him. The impact wouldn’t be painful, the man simply needed to rest. “I know...” He answered. “Not many do...” And those that do or think they do try to abuse it. This he knows all too well. “And people tend to fear and make assumptions about things they don’t understand...”
Genkai was smaller than he’d planned, and he was weaker than what he’d thought, so he soon tumbled to the mossy floor of the forest. Atleast it was soft. He slowly rolled to his side and remained there for a while.
Tumblr media
“Ugh.”
A pinhole? Oh ho ho. That was cute, or so he thought. Little did Ukoku know of Genkai’s perspectives though.  “I’m afraid..I don’t know what..you are talking about.”

It may have been difficult for the man to use him as a crutch, considering his stature. But Genkai didn’t move, allowing the other to grapple onto his shoulder to stand himself up. “Hm…” He hummed in response to the other’s words. “Is that how it is?” He questioned. “Things might be clearer for you now… but your field of vision is no larger than a pinhole…” He spoke softly before moving so smoothly as though Ukoku would feel as though he simply disappeared. But instead, Genkai removed himself from the other’s touch and moved just ahead of him. “Hard to see the big picture… when you only see one small speck of it.” Genkai didn’t need to use his powers to know that Ukoku had lost somebody or something close to him at some point. Especially with a stance that he has..
Tumblr media
“I’m talking about our existence. The bigger picture is that we’re all going to get reborn so we can run around some more..Just so that we can end up in heaven, and sit around being bored. Do you get it? I’m not playing that game. I play my own game. It’s much more fun. And I’m glad I’m fucking blind because everything is much more clearer that way.”
Ukoku began to get up, but struggled. He was so weak. He tried to grasp at the stranger as a crutch so that he could stand. “HEhe..Everyone else can do what they want. I don’t care.”

This man’s outlook was quite bleak to say the least. Which made him wonder about the man’s robes once more. There was no mistaking them, that was for sure. But... something wasn’t quite right about it. “If everything is pointless... then does that make your injury pointless? Was it pointless for the person who did this to you? Are your robes... pointless?” Even in rat races... there was still a point and a purpose to it behind it all.
Tumblr media
He couldn’t remember even once to have been healed by someone else. If so it must have happened without his knowledge, but it was a peculiar feeling.  It felt like the stranger was touching the memory of the pain he’d felt when Koumyou’s kid had finally managed to injure him. INJURE him. He almost laughed at the idea but it came out as a breathy gasp and a smile. “ow.”
However, when the healing was over, he felt like he could very well go to sleep. “Naw naw naw..Nothing has purpose. Everything is pointless. It’s all one big rat-race and nobody knows.”

“Then remain calm...” Sitting cross legged now, Genkai brought his hands together into a prayer. No words even being spoke or recited as a light aura began to build around his body before moving and hovering over the blinded males face. He’d find the wound slowly healing itself, but not enough of course to rid him of the pain completely, nor to repair his eyesight. Just enough to stop the bleeding by sealing the wound. Once done, Genkai would part his hands and open his eyes once more to look down at his work. It still looked pretty bad with all the blood on the man’s face, but that could be washed off. “Does everything need to have a purpose to be worth something?”
Tumblr media
“So is this body.” A sigh. He really felt old. And weak. Oh well. “And I don’t really care. Life is too pointless and ridiculous to be taken too seriously.”
Was this a boy? He couldn’t see sqat but he sounded and felt small, by the way his voice was really close, and by the way he felt like he didn’t take up much space on the ground.
“Could you? Thank you.”

Happening upon this man... Genkai had to take pause. Not because of his injuries to his eyes... but because of the robes he wore. Was it possible...? No, there wasn’t much time for such a thing. “Anger and self pity are deteriorating conditions...” He remarked softly before kneeling down next to the male’s head and peering down over the wound. It was fairly deep. No doubt would leave a scar. “I can stop the bleeding...”

In that moment, Genkai finally peered up at the other male, eyes locking... But it didn’t last long as Genkai looked away once more. The mans words... he understood them. People had their reasons for doing the things they do. That was never in question. Nor was he actually seeking out an answer for the question he asked in particular. But... he got what he wanted regardless, whether the other knew this or not. Genkai simply gave a soft hum in response.
“Hakkai!!” Goku called out from the other end of the street, waving his arm to catch the other’s attention as he jogged towards them.
And the moment Hakkai would take his eyes off of Genkai, he’d be gone in the next moment. But not without leaving a quiet parting words. “Not yet...”
Tumblr media
“…Perhaps it’s for the best.” He replies, head turning slightly and tilting down to look at the stranger. “Merciful or not. It’s just a choice people will make, and they’ll do it for many reasons. Personally, for me, I think it’s the best to hide the truth, just so the others wont be burden by my own naive thoughts or past experiences that could possibly appear in the mere future. It eases me to know that I can keep it to myself. I do hope you understand that, though not everything should be kept as a lie, I know that for sure.”

Things left unsaid... “A merciful lie then...” He hummed softly to himself. He could see the benefit of both. Then perhaps... was this man putting on such a show and a fake smile for a reason? Something in his past perhaps? “But how merciful can it be when you have to continue to lie? Is it really considered merciful when you shoulder the burden of the lie in order to protect others from the truth?”
Tumblr media
“…” He fell silent at first, not saying anything whilst emerald eyes were focused on the person right there, who was next to him. He didn’t really notice he was there until the guy spoke. “…I don’t think so, things should be left unsaid.” Hakkai starts as he looks at the villagers on the street. “Some people can not deal with brutal honesty, and sometimes honesty can hurt someone, though I suppose it just depends what this honesty is, it could be good or it could be bad.”

Ah. Perhaps that was much more forward than he intended it to be. But Genkai fell silent at the other’s response, not even looking at the man he was standing next to. “Do you think... the world would be a better place if people were upfront and always honest?” He questioned, peering down at a few more villagers on the street below them. There was no telling what drew him to this man. But something about him... was familiar. As if he had seen his face somewhere before...

“Oh, sorry, didn’t notice you there.”
Tumblr media
It was only natural that the other wouldn’t have noticed him. Not many did. And it was likely due to his short stature, but even so... he always felt like he was sort of invisible. However, even as unexpected as the bump was, Genkai didn’t even budge. Almost as if he were a rock in that moment. But his eyes gazed up at the tall male for a brief moment and then back down. This man... has he seen him before? “It’s alright...”

And Genkai did just that, followed the fellow monk in training, trailing behind him the whole way. His purple gaze peering at the back of the other’s form. Taking in his movements, the way he carried himself... there was an act there. Maybe he was aware, maybe he wasn’t... but Genkai could see how Jyoan walked with a lack of his usual high standard. His gait a bit more feeble than normal... Maybe it wasn’t an act at all... maybe, he was seeing a bit more of the other monk for who he actually was.
It certainly came as a surprise when the other had continued to speak with him, even after being given a way out. To leave or to have him leave. He didn’t want Jyoan to feel trapped or obligated to speak to him. And yet, the other stayed... and is now even going as far as to show him something? What could it possibly be? And why would Jyoan bother to take all this time with him in the first place?
Once they arrived, Genkai’s eyes pulled from the other and scanned over the tiny room. Well... tiny for most anybody else. There wasn’t much to it. A few windows, a few bookshelves... This was the place he wanted to show him? As the other spoke without, Genkai came to understand the other’s reasons for liking this room. While small, it was tucked away with only one way in and out. If you don’t count the windows of course. And for all the time he’s spent here in this temple, he has never come across this little section before. So it definitely was a good place to go if you wanted to be alone.
And it was true, Genkai knew what sarcasm was, but found it difficult to discern it from time to time, as everybody uses it a bit differently. But he didn’t care about the other’s comment, nor did the other need to really explain himself to him. Genkai was still stuck wondering... why was Jyoan sharing all of this with him?
Genkai moved towards the window, but being as short as he was, he had to stand on the tip of his toes to even peer past the windowsill and look over at the locked tower of the temple. Truth be told, he didn’t give it much thought either. But something in the way Jyoan spoke... a sort of underlying excitement and curiosity there made him think he was the outcast in that. Perhaps the others felt the same as Jyoan. Curiosity wanting to get the better of them.
Tumblr media
Shaking his head in response, Genkai lowered himself back down and looked over at the other. No, he hadn’t heard about these rumors. Why would he when most don’t even bother to talk to him or give him the time of day? Besides Houmei and Toudai of course. But they always talked about other things.
“No, not far at all. Just follow me.”
The way he said might have looked pretty cool and aloof on the outside… but on the inside, what Jyoan was really thinking was more along the lines of: “What the hell am I doing?”
After this, his secret hiding spot wasn’t going to be a secret anymore. Not only he had disclosed this sort of information to someone, but it was pretty much an open invitation to the little demon over there, of all people, sharing something with him that he had never shared with anyone before. Sharing a side of him he hasn’t shared with many people before. The real “him”, the loner who sometimes just had the impulse to get away, all of those times that hiding behind his mask was just too… much. That served for the Jyoan that everybody knew. The Jyoan he wanted everybody to know. Fierce, opinionated, aloof. Yes, some people may interpret it as being arrogant, haughty and egocentric, Jyoan was very aware of that. But he didn’t care. After all, he did everything he could to build his façade over the years that, eventually, he had to inevitably become a pretty faithful projection of the ideal “self” he set himself out to be. That’s the only thing that mattered, way more than what other people ought to think of him. He rather be seen as the hot-headed type, rather than the weak, anxious, neurotic mess he truly was.
So, why was he about to reveal himself that to that little demon, with whom he had nothing to share so far? Why wasn’t he so concerned with wearing his mask around him?
[Could it be that… he can see right through me? I can sense that.Even though that’s not quite like seeing the future, a power like this must definitely allow him to see… things that nobody else can see.]
The same pecularity about Genkai that had upset him so much earlier, for some reason, didn’t feel so scary anymore. He was ready to welcome him in his hiding spot, that  little elbowroom just above the common area, facing… that weird tower. The one that was always locked.
Tumblr media
“So… here we are.”
The area was so narrow the it could barely fit two people; luckily, with Jyoan being so slender and Genka being so small, the two managed to fit in without a problem.
“This is the place I always come to when I need to… when people start to get on my nerves and I need to get away, or else, blood would be shed. Lots of it.” - he’d often spurt sentences like that casually, without even bothering to question the speaker’s understanding of his brand of sarcasm. Genkai’s dilated eyes, however, told a different story.
“Ugh… don’t look at me like that! That was a joke, clearly. Thought it might be helpful to you, in case…you ever feel like being alone for a while. So that it doesn’t feel as miserable as sitting outside in the cold, freezing your ass and stuff. It may not look like much, but it’s really cozy over here, trust me.”
He started to show the little youkai around, with a smirk appearing on his face as he caught a glimpse at Genkai’s expression. He looked… somehow interested? He certainly didn’t strike as distant and apathetic… well, not as much as usual. A sort of  faint light appeared now in his big purple eyes… at least, that’s how it looked like to him.
“Let’s see… I’ve found some weird books over there, I could show them to you… they’re pretty interesting. I warn you though: some of this stuff ain’t for the faint of heart. But that’s nothing compared to… that. ” - he pointed his finger towards the tower, which could be seen from a little rear window’s view.
“That’s the tower that is always locked. You can see it pretty well from here, even though it might be unnerving to some… you do know about the rumors surrounding it, don’t you?” - he said it in a casual tone, just to realize that, just by telling Genkai about it, he was working himself into a state of nervous excitement, somehow.

Again, silence fell between them for a while, as if the both of them were trying to sort of the situation and just what the other was thinking in that exact moment. It was like that after each time they spoke. Uncertainty... confusion... wonder... wonder about what was running through the other’s mind. Looking up at the taller male, Genkai could practically see the thoughts written all over Jyoan’s face, in the way he moved, held himself... body language gave so much away, but it couldn’t tell him his exact thoughts. Sure, he had powers... but he wasn’t a mind reader. And he needed to be touching the person for them to even work.
But for all the consideration running through Jyoan’s mind, it still caught Genkai by surprise when Jyoan finally answered. Crude as it was... he wasn’t speaking just for himself anymore. No. He grouped the both of them together, using we, us, them... Genkai supposed it shouldn’t have been as shocking as it was, but it couldn’t be helped. Even if Houmei and Toudai would have said the same thing... Jyoan wasn’t either of them. He was someone whom Genkai had barely spoken to, until this moment. And yet he so easily accepted it. Perhaps through all that salty, ego, bitterness, better than thou attitude that Jyoan loved to display... he really was a much kinder man than one would initially give him credit for. Able to see past the differences between them easily enough by giving him a chance. That was more than could be said for most people.
At this point, all Genkai could do was nod his head in agreement. He’d follow him. Not only out of curiosity as to what Jyoan could possibly want to show him... but to learn more about the man himself. Though, he couldn’t quite shake the tension he started feeling. Cause whenever somone wanted to show him something... it always ended up not being something nice, but something more hateful, violent. Using kind words to try and persuade him. He had always given people more chances and benefit of the doubt, than he should. But he hoped Jyoan would be different.
Tumblr media
“How far is it...?”
Jyoan stood there, unsure about what what to do. He had hoped that the little youkai would agree wholeheartedly to his suggestion, after all, all he was trying was to make him more comfortable. He thought that, if he would be around Toudai and Houmei, who supposedely were his closest friends, he would feel more at ease than just with him.
Instead, all Genkai was doing is looking back at him with big, interrogative eyes. What is it that he really wanted to do? Could it be that he wanted to avoid his friends? How strange. He really thought he was getting along with them. He could, however, somewhat relate to that himself, as it was not like wanted to be around Ganpuku all the freaking time…
“Actually, the least time we spend together, the better it is for my nerves”.
That did not mean he didn’t consider him as a friend, not at all, but no one else more than him would kow how irritating Ganpuku could be at times. He talked too much, he was too loud  and, regardless how long they’ve been knowing each other, he was still not aquainted with Jyoan’s concept of “personal space”.
There was no way he could experience his time the same way he was with Genkai. The conversation was somewhat scarce, yes, there was a silent, soothing understanding between them to make up for it, so much so that it made words pretty much unnecessary. That wasn’t something that would happen often with anyone. He wondered if that had anything to do with his youkai’s powers, or was it just a trait of Genkai’s personality.
Could it be that all he really wanted was to spend some time… with him? And no one else? It was really hard to tell. After all this time they’ve been talking to one another, he still couldn’t quite tell if he actually liked talking to him or if he wished he was somewhere else the whole time.
At this point, all he knew was the way the he felt around Genkai and he realized that no, they did not need to go back to the party. He didn’t have look for Houmei, Toudai nor even Ganpuku: he was fine with just being the two of them. “If the others want us, they will look for us. But I will definitely won’t go begging for their attention.”
Tumblr media
“You know what? Nevermind, fuck'em. Let’s not go back there. I know where we can go. Follow me, if you feel like it There is something that I want to show you.”

There weren’t many times where someone would volunteer and want to spend time with him. At least not in a friendly capacity. Most of the time, he was either left alone, or completely treated like shit, both physically and mentally. People were cruel. Not only to each other but to other races as well. It was in human nature, to scorn, shun, fear anything and anybody thats different than them. But it’s not fair to say all people are like that. For instance... here was Jyoan, actually relating to him? It was... nice.
In truth, Genkai loved attention. He craved when others wanted him around, needed his help... but he was not one to throw himself into either. Knowing from experience that it can end pretty badly. And so he always hung back, kept to himself, and waited for others to approach him first. Much like Jyoan had done. And much to Genkai’s surprise... continues to want to spend time with him. Was it just because he didn’t want to be alone anymore and Genkai was the first one he came across? Or was it something else?
Purple eyes locked onto the other male, simply staring at him with a hint of shock. Go somewhere? Did he actually ask him if he wanted to spend more time with him? There was a small squeeze in Genkai’s chest that made him feel like he actually mattered for a moment.
Tumblr media
“Go? Go where...?” Back to the party? He didn’t know... not like anybody else would really notice he was there anyways. “Is that... what you want to do?” He asked in return. He was never good at deciding things for other people like this. If it were just him? Sure. But when it involved deciding for someone else? He couldn’t do it.
Tumblr media
As he listened to the little youkai’s words, Jyoan immediatly regretted asking him those questions. It was clear that Genkai was trying to avoid the subject, and as a result he was definitely passing as a busy-body, and that didn’t exactly make for an elegant demenor.
Truth to be told, he was actually enjoying Genkai’s presence. As strange as it would sound, it seemed like they had a lot more in common than he thought they would. Sure, he wasn’t as refined, witty and charismatic as himself, but overall he truly seemed like a good person. Unlike everyone else around, he seemed to really understand the beauty of loneliness… even though, just like him, he had also been left alone by his friends, and he was definitely suffering because of it. He would know, as Jyoan was also hurting the same way as Genkai probably was.
“I mean, one thing is to choose to be alone… but when you realize that the people around just won’t miss you all that much, being lonely definitely loses its appeal.”
Could it be this could be the reason behind him choosing loneliness? So that he could have people go looking for him when he’s gone and, therefore, show that they cared for him all along? He wondered if Genkai ever felt the same… but he wouldn’t have the guts to ask. Instead, as he was trying to save the situation without making the little demon leave (as he he truly hated the idea of ending up alone once more) he carefully weighted his words and uttered slowly:
“…I’ve never said I wanted you to leave me alone. Look… would you like to go somewhere instead? Like…do you wanna get back to he party and see if we can find Houmei and Mom…ahem, Toudai-san?”
