can you explain the pill tamagotchi thing?
This might take a biiiiiit more explaining than I originally thought, here we go:
So when Tamagotchi came back in 2004 as the “Tamagotchi Connection” it introduced the infrared connection feature - that dark red bar on the top that could connect two Tamagotchis together (below is a pic of the difference between the 1996 and the 2004 models)
Tumblr media
Now, in Japan there was a special promotional tool for the Tamagotchi Connection, known over there as the “Tamagotchi Plus”, in the form of large “Deka” Tamagotchi stations, which were powered via AC adapters and would be set up in retail stores. Through these, customers with their Tamagotchis could connect to the Store Dekas and have their characters play games with the Deka’s built-in characters (and in later models, receive items)
Tumblr media
Dekas didn’t really make it overseas, but they still create versions of the Deka Tamagotchis for both retail and personal use in contemporary Japanese Tamagotchi devices, like the m!xAnyway, Kapuserutchi is a character that appears on the Store Deka, and is technically unobtainable as an evolution on the Tamagotchi itself.
Tumblr media
So how do you “dangerously” get this funky little pill man?
On the Tamagotchi Connection / Plus line’s circuit boards there’s a solder jumper with the word “debug” printed over it, when you rub the graphite of a pencil between the two halves it completes the connection, putting the Tamagotchi into “debug mode”
Tumblr media
There are two primary effects “debug mode” causes: hyper-speed, which can ‘fast forward’ your Tamagotchi through the regular 3-day growth stages in a matter of minutes, and character selection
The character selection feature lets you scroll through the list of adult characters you can obtain on the Tamagotchi Connection/Plus and allow you to pre-select the adult character you want to raise, rather than have it evolve determined by the type of care you give it
Tumblr media
On top of the regular list of raisable characters, this mode lets you raise a list of characters which are only accessible in debug mode, likely coded in during the early development, but scrapped in the final productThese characters include ones borrowed from the Japanese Mesutchi and Osutchi (which actually had an early version of “connection” technology)
Tumblr media
New characters that would become raisable on the Tamagotchi Connection Version 2 (only Furawatchi, the last one, was used in the Japanese Keitai Plus)
Tumblr media
Characters that have specific uses for the device’s programming - Nazotchi appears in lieu of newer characters that were not coded into the Version 1 when connecting to newer Tamagotchi Versions, and “Three Blocks” has ties to the Deka-mode programming
Tumblr media
And finally, the Japanese Store Deka Tamagotchi characters, which were programmed in not to be raised, but so the Tamagotchi Plus could have the Store Deka characters appear properly on the device.
Tumblr media
Since the programming of the Tamagotchi Connection Version 1 is essentially identical (save for language / regional changes) to the Tamagotchi Plus, this means these characters still exist within the English device’s programming, though the toy is incompatible with Japanese Store Dekas.
Now, there is a “danger” in activating debug mode: many people have reported that once activated it can be difficult to deactivate (it requires taking apart the Tama and erasing the graphite without damaging the board), some versions become horrifically glitched, the sound breaks, etc.
Overall, with debug mode comes the strong possibility of irreversibly breaking your Tamagotchi, so it’s not a recommended practice within fan circles
It is the price we must pay for the funky little pill man…💔

Somebody once asked me how many Tamagotchi creatures there are.
This is as many as I have sprites for, but the total number is like 730+.

His name is Honey, but it seems to have been lost in translation. fun fact: english tamagotchis can read japanese names, but keitais can’t read english names.
Translation:
(Good afternoon!) “Hi!”
(My name is Akai-chan!)
“My name is 「☼♥。 !”
(…what?)

Today was cleaning day! Everyone grew this afternoon, and I remade the rainbow lanyard on my transparent pink v3. Glow, who was a boy mizutamatchi, is now a pirorirotchi (despite me giving him pretty good care... hmm.) July, who was a boy kuchitamatchi, is now a little hinatchi, and Venga (the second) was a girl mohitamatchi and is now a hikotchi.
Glow was lucky, since I always keep my three with a stock of fries in case any of them turn into pirorirotchi! I’m trying to avoid looking up likes and dislikes so I can find them out myself.
Anyway, today i spent the afternoon opening them all up and cleaning them. My translucent pink had visible dust inside the buttons, so i decided it was time. My pink ice cream v3 was pretty grimy around the seams and IR port cover, so it really needed a good wipedown. I was considering switching the buttons in my hibiscus v3 and the ice cream one, but I only thought about it after i had put them all back together. Maybe next time!

Today marks the last day of the next generation of v3s for me! My three this time are Tsuki, a girl dorotchi, Gloom, a boy tarakotchi, and Night, a boy kuchipatchi! Both boys ended up as pirorirotchis in their teens, which allowed me to fill out my spritesheet for pirorirotchi almost completely. Yesterday, the matchmaker came, and now Gloom and Tsuki have baby boys and Night has a baby girl.
I learned that the inside of the battery cover of my translucent pnk v3 is the ideal place to stick a note on care, so i remember which tama gets which kind of care! it makes it very easy to keep track for the purpose of getting other characters when i can just look on the back of one of them.

It’s been a while! I forgot to log for a bit, and so far, it's been about two generations since I last posted an update.
As to be expected, Hotdog passed away a while ago. She was 11 years of age. I haven't started over on my mini yet, and i don't think i will, because the v3s are quite a handful!
Speaking of my v3s, tonight is my last night with my current trio. In my translucent pink is a boy dorotchi named Candy, in my pink ice cream is a girl kurokotchi named Milk, and in my green hibiscus is a girl Wooltchi named Honey. Honey and Candy had two baby boys a few days ago and Milk had a little girl, but I've been holding off on letting them go because i've been taking footage for my spritesheets! I have all the items except the rollerskates now, but i've only ever seen them twice, so I don't really have much hope of seeing them again soon... Anyway, I now have only a few different items to use on kurokotchi and then i believe i'll have that sheet done and I can start arranging it! I will start posting these tamagotchi spritesheets here on my tumblr, but maybe someplace else like tamatalk as well.
While recording video for them, I learned something interesting. One: the ball and RC car/duck aren't the only things that characters can fail at. Two: Wooltchi is really bad at everything. I literally had never seen a character who played the trumped badly before. Now I know! I want to get my hands on another trumpet and drum so I can play two side by side.

MORE EVENTFULNESS! Yesterday, my translucent pink v3 came in the mail. It’s just as beautiful as i remembered it. I started it up right when i got it, and I hatched a girl, who i named Venga. I also had two babies on my hands yesterday morning; Star’s daughter is now named Cream, and Frank’s reset descendant is named Choco. Choco is a boy. Until this evening, Choco was a tamatchi and the girls were both mizutamatchis.
Today, Cream grew into a hinotamatchi, and Choco grew into an obotchi! Venga hasn’t grown yet, because i started her up a good eight hours after the other two. I also paused them for a bit this morning, because I went to bed at an unreasonable hour last night and didn’t want them to starve when I went back to sleep after waking up to my alarm. I’m expecting to hear Venga’s evolution sound go off in the middle of the damn night tonight.
