Hi there! I've seen your gifs around before and liked/reblogged plenty, but now that I'm actually starting to make more gifs myself, I'm even MORE impressed by the gorgeous quality of yours. I have a MILLION questions, such as: What are your secrets? What program do you use? How do you keep them looking so un-pixelated? How do you get them to retain such high quality even after tumblr processes them???? Do you know witchcraft? You don't have to answer, but you have my undying admiration!

i use Photoshop 2023 (🏴‍☠️)

i've downloaded all the episodes (🏴‍☠️) at a decent resolution - at least 1080p, though I'm sure you could get some really spectacular gifs if you splurged on the super HD ones. i just didn't care enough to have such big files on my computer!

i use VLC to open the video file, then use the record feature to clip the section I want to gif. the import feature on photoshop can be a little fiddly, so I typically give myself a few buffer seconds at the beginning and end of each video to make sure I got what I wanted.

i was about to start typing up a guide here, then I realized I'd already written down my gif method for a friend here! feel free to check it out! It's the Video Frames to Layers > Timeline > Smart Object method which I think is the most popular with most gifmakers these days, so most modern tumblr gif tutorials should line up with it if you need to reference another guide.

make sure to correctly resize your gifs! full-width gifs should be 540 px. check here for more resolutions if you're doing a full photoset. if you make your gif too large or too small, it will look either blurry or crunchy.

if you are brand new to gif making, your first few gifs will probably be bad. this is okay and totally normal! it'll get easier and faster with time just like anything else!

I know the feeling like ultimately the main pairing also got either such bad weak writing or NO writing this season that I cant bring myself to like them anymore? Not as characters or as a couple. It's been ruining fic for me too!! I hate it!!! I cant buy that they have good intentions, or the capacity for self reflection needed to grow, or the push through to stick to a change, or that they care about other people beyond surface level at all anymore, and that was the whole point for me

right.... i'm trying to approach this the same way i look at other characters i've loved who were done dirty by writers and reframe their actions as Poor Writing Choices versus actual bad characters because i need that life preserver to have any hope of enjoying the fandom again. but it feels extremely bad! so many bizarre and mean choices with the writing this season just warped my view of the characters and the tone of the show. i share your misery. i just don't understand what they were going for.
