Friendly, or maybe not so friendly, you decide, reminder that Alex and Henry hadn’t heard each others’ voice for at minimum a week so Henry didn’t even let himself hope that it was Alex on the other end.

Their bond is otherworldly.

We’re honestly just so fortunate that we got to see them on screen together, and their connection in any amount they choose to share with us. I will never take it for granted. I hope we see them share the screen more in the future, and not just in the sense of RWRB sequels, but in other projects. I’ve said it before, I’ll keep saying until I die, their chemistry is the kind you find once in a lifetime.

I have no idea if either of them lurk here on tumblr, but if they ever do, I hope they see how special they are and how much they mean to us.

WIP Wednesday - April 24th, 2024

I feel like I’m tempting fate here by posting more of this fic, but I’m feeling pretty awful, and some validation, or opportunity to make other people smile would be really great right now!

The puck clatters into the goal. Henry jumps back from the table to pump his fist in triumph. "Yes!" he says with satisfaction. His animated movements and sparkling eyes are undeniably adorable; it's a rare occurrence to see him so uninhibited. Alex can't bring himself to bring down his high, even if he's seething from having lost again. "That makes the three out of five," Henry says, turning his attention back to Alex as puts his hands on the table, "and me the final winner." His grin is broad and boastful, but somehow it's not obnoxious. He's in a good mood tonight; he's being a gracious winner. This somewhat makes Alex even more annoyed that he's lost. Call him a sore loser, but the defeat stings. It's been a rough week of law school shit, and he'd gotten only 78% percent on his last test. It's a passing grade, but not good enough for him. Losing a game or competition right now feels like extra confirmation that he's inadequate. He knows it's a him problem rather than a Henry problem, but can't he have a justified reason to be angry at this man, for once? Why does he have to be so damn nice, even when he's gloating? It's this bubbling soup of self-doubt, frustration, and competitiveness that makes him do what he does next. Alex puts his hands on the table, mirroring Henry's relaxed posture but with determination as he leans forward. He clenches his jaw, and he sees the recognition in Henry's wide eyes before he even says it. "All-or-Nothing."

Alright, I hope I don't get too much heat for this, but I'm going to be completely honest.

I think the fanfiction community takes Nora's sarcasm and sass way too far sometimes.

There's a massive difference between jabs between friends, and just straight up being mean. Far too often, I find myself frustrated when reading a fic and encountering Nora being borderline toxic to Alex, which she's NOT.

Hell, I've seen fanfics written about Alex that touch on how sometimes even the people close to him make comments regarding his ADHD or personality that hurt him. I linked one that I often reread because it's done so well. And this isn't even what I mean when it comes to characterization going too far. They're pretty accurate/normal levels of sarcastic in this one.

But I sometimes read fics where I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth because it goes so far that it feels like Nora doesn't even care about Alex's feelings with how much she ignores or insults him. She's mean to him in some of the fics I read, and it's not funny. Occasionally June is also characterized this way, but Nora is written this way far more often.

I understand that she's written sassy and no-nonsense in the book. I know where they get the traits from. But there's never really any moments in the book of that behavior that makes me go, "okay, that's kinda too far".

I have found myself genuinely angry because of how mean she is in way too many fics to be comfortable with it.

(about the alex-miguel potential hooking up more often topic)

i feel like if miguel wasn't a journalist, but alex and miguel still had met under different circumstances, then probably miguel would not have pursued alex, because miguel would not have chosen alex as a "target"... because he might have a different job but still the same personality

in the movie it very much seems like even the one time they hooked up, it was probabaly miguel going after alex bc of him being potentially the future fsotus, so miguel wanted to get connected/extreme-networking... (maybe even blackmail material) and then alex was like yeah he's kinda hot so whatever let's go

so i think kinda if miguel wasn't a journalist, then alex would not have even had the option to hook up with miguel, cause miguel would not have pursued alex in the first place

Lmfao I know you're being logical and detective-like about this, but I cannot help but laugh at the idea that anyone with an attraction to men would ever pass up the opportunity to hook up with a man that looks like Alex/Taylor does. 😭😂

ANYWAY

I stand by the fact that Miguel did like Alex on top of the political stuff. Not saying that he was in love with him or even wanted anything serious or frequent with him, but he did genuinely like Alex as a person, prior to the email leaks.

I also stand my ground on the stance that claiming Miguel was entirely false and completely manipulative the entire time is indirectly an insult to Alex's intelligence and perception levels. This man is in law school, and works in goddamn politics. He knows how to read people. There's not a chance in hell that the Miguel we see in the movie would be able to fool him if he was being ingenuine the entire time.

Hope that kinda makes sense? Idk if you actually actually asked me anything, or if we're just sharing our thoughts lol
