Is there just one original movie for devil man, or was more than one movie? Or was it a series like crybaby? I see you talking about devil man on Twitter so I thought I'd ask, sorry if this seems like a dumb question

nah it’s not! this got long so tldr read the manga, watch the 90s ovas (subbed) and be careful if you wanna watch crybaby

devilman actually originates from the manga, and everyone makes fun of its weird art style + like almost funny bad pacing in the first volume but it’s really really good & i’d recommend starting there if you wanna get into it! kissmanga has it and it’s short enough to read in one night. fair warning that the original’s got (tame by now standards since it’s from the 70s lol but) nudity n graphic gore and gets pretty … depressing at the end, dealing with themes of world war n discrimination and stuff

there was an anime from like the 70s i think but it’s a stinky attempt at making it kid friendly (LOL) n not worth it

then there’s the 90s ovas (the birth + devil bird) that are anime adaptations of the first few arcs of the manga, so warning for the same amts of nsfw and gore. they’re really beautifully animated but are … unfortunately known for the hilariously bad english dub, you can watch for the Hahas but if you want to like, enjoy it you should watch the subtitled version

crybaby is an adaptation/reimagining of the original manga, and it’s good but you really need to know before watching it that it has extremely graphic gore, nsfw, rape, pedophilia, and animal death in it. As someone with a pretty high tolerance for this sort of thing, it crossed my comfort boundaries even more than the original & the potentially triggering parts aren’t easy to ignore so definitely don’t go into it unless you’re okay with that. I’m personally not big on it as an adaptation but it was enjoyable to watch mostly

then there’s a bunch of spinoff mangas and ovas that i haven’t actually gotten around to reading/watching LOL.
