Panama Caribbean A long time ago around the 17/18 century the Spanish empire reached this coast where they left ruins of military constructions that we can still see today. Now this coast is used as an escape space where you can enjoy extraordinary views of the Atlantic sea and crystalline beaches with a quantity of marine fauna. Canopy Adventure The most famous waterfall in the El Valle region is 35m-high Chorro El Macho, one of four cascades located about 2km north of town; it's a 15-minute walk from the road and the entrance to the Canopy Adventure tour. Below the falls you’ll find a natural swimming pool surrounded by rainforest. There is also a series of short hiking trails that wend their way into the surrounding jungle. This towering waterfall is quite forceful and makes for some excellent photographs. El Valle’s famed canopy tour offers an unforgettable aerial view of Chorro El Macho. Canopy Lodge El Valle de Antón, home to the Canopy Lodge, is an enchanting mountain valley town much cooler than the tropical lowlands. Surrounded by scenic misty mountains traversed by creeks, its true charm is revealed by its unhurried pace and its peaceful residents. Located just two hours from Panama City, El Valle is the perfect resting place for someone trying to escape traffic jams, office buildings, pollution and the pressures of everyday city life. The Canopy Lodge is nestled in the caldera of an enormous, ancient volcano. The cloud forest-covered jagged peaks create a serene backdrop, and an inviting climate makes it feel like spring all year-round. A small river crosses through the property, attracting forest stream birds, and gives way to natural swimming pools and ponds just a minute’s walk from the open air veranda looking over the gardens and bird feeders. Canopy Tower The Canopy Tower was built in 1965 by the United States Air Force to house a powerful radar used in the defense of the Panama Canal. In September of 1988, the radar tower received an important new assignment when it was activated as Site One in the Caribbean Basin Radar Network (CBRN). This network of radars was used by the United States government to detect airplanes suspected of carrying drugs from South America. The tower played this role until June of 1995 when it was closed and left vacant waiting for better days. In August of 1997, the government of Panama signed a long-term contract to transform the site into a center for neotropical-rainforest observation and ecotourism in Panama. In January of 1999, the Canopy Tower was inaugurated and the rest, as they say, is history Right now The Canopy Tower is a prime location from which to observe the birds and other wildlife of the forest canopy. Because the birds and mammals are at eye level, it is common to get fantastic views otherwise nearly impossible from the ground, making this one of the best places for birding in Panama. Parque Nacional Soberanía Isthmus Panama’s Parque Nacional Soberanía is a true tropical forest, and it’s one of the most accessible in the world. Its 22,000 hectares extend along the east bank of the Panama Canal, ending at Lago Gatún near the town of Limón. The wildlife is amazing, especially considering how close the park is to population centers. Among its inhabitants are 525 species of birds, 105 species of mammals, 55 species of amphibians, and 79 species of reptiles. All its well-maintained trails are a short drive from Panama City on the Gaillard Highway, making it quite feasible to go for a morning hike during which there’s a chance of encountering such tourist-pleasing critters as sloths, coatimundis, toucans, and kinkajous, and then be back in the heart of the city in time for lunch and rest.
