Random Fire Emblem Headcanon #5
During Catherine’s time in the Blue Lions house, she was the house leader and her class included Christophe, Glenn, and Miklan.
During that time, the Black Eagles house leader was Randolph. And the Golden Deer house leader was Acheron.

I'm sure others people have pointed this out already, but the dragon signs matched to Crests seem to affect the Crest-bearers in ways even outside of the combat effects.
For example, Lysithea and Catherine's supports mentioning that they seem to call rain and thunder/lightning when they do laundries, and they both have Crest of Charon = Lightning Dragon Sign.
Annette is clumsy and is seen exploding/breaking stuff (not in the same way Dimitri does but still), Crest of Dominic = Crusher Dragon Sign.
Constance makes a bunch of flowers bloom with magic in her S-Support, Crest of Noa = Bloom Dragon Sign.
For less obvious examples, Crest of Lamine is Aegis Dragon Sign; in Japanese, the kanji used is 護, which is used often as verb for protecting/caring— as opposed to Shield Dragon Sign's (Fraldarius) 盾, which is usually a more literal noun for shield. Fits both Lamine sibling's personalities, with Mercedes being caring and Jeritza being very protective of Mercedes.
Craft Dragon Sign's (Gloucester) kanji is 賢, which is usually used in the context of someone being wise; arguably Lorenz and Lysithea fit the bill pretty well among the Deer, with Lorenz on the political side of things and Lysithea on the technical/academic side of things. (Claude is another brainy/clever character but I don't think 賢 is quite the letter I'd use for him, at least during time of canon)
Kalpa Dragon Sign's (Goneril) 劫 can refer to kalpa as in Buddhist unit of time, but it can also refer to danger/intimidate/threat, and we see the "Hilda is scary when she's mad" thing in her Hopes paralogue with Balthus and Holst lmao
Another interesting thing for the Chinese letters used in the Dragon Signs: kanji for Sky Dragon Sign (Seiros) is 空, which can mean sky, but it can also mean empty, and is used as the Chinese letter translation for sunyata, usually used in a Mahayana Buddhist context. What's interesting is that when it's used as "empty," it's usually not used in a negative/nihilistic type of tone, at least not as far as I know. (The negative context letter for empty is more 虛; combining it with 空 for 空虛 and using it to describe emotion does mean a sad kind of emptiness in Korean, though. Not sure about Chinese or Japanese)
Anyway I think this is fuel for fun headcanon traits to give characters. Crest of Riegan = Star Dragon Sign = Claude is good at navigating by stars? Storm Dragon Sign = Crest of the Beast = Marianne is another member of "calls in storms" squad? Dark Dragon Sign = Crest of Timotheos = Hapi can see well in the dark? Water Dragon Sign = Crest of Indech = Hanneman and Bernadetta are unexpectedly good at swimming? So on.

Let me first say no. This is my personal opinion and does not represent all Japanese fans. And it doesn't challenge the ideas of all fans.
ToDay! ! I would like to consider and write about the Japanese "first person" culture and the characters that appear in FE 風花雪月 (Fire Emblem: Three Houses).
This is one corner of the FE Fuka Setsugetsu strategy book released in Japan.
Tumblr media
It is featured about their unique "first person".
Japanese video games, manga, and anime characters is Colorful hair colors, hairstyles, eye colors, and accessories are often symbolized to demonstrate individuality in appearance, but equally important is the "first person." (Video game fans familiar with Japanese culture will surely know!)
how do you describe yourself? As for the nuance, it might be something like their self-introduction, or something like the aura that they carry. (Personal impression)
In the image you saw earlier,
"Watashi" "Ore" "Boku"
and
"Ode" *This is special, so I'll explain it at the end!
……It is written to be pronounced as
Japanese has its own unique alphabets of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.
kanji=漢字=Chinesealphabet hiragana=ひらがな katakana=カタカナ
I would like to introduce these nuances along with the characters' personalities!
first most
”私"
This kanji character for "私" has a variety of uses, such as intellectual images, adult images, honorifics used when exchanging words with superiors, and different uses in business situations.
Characters using this first person in the Japanese version
edelgard Hubert Ferdinand Dorothea mercedes Ingrid Marianne
They are calm and have an air of maturity that allows them to always behave appropriately in public. It is also used when interacting with someone you respect, and it also plays a role in creating the atmosphere that aristocratic characters are living in aristocratic society. And this firstperson is the safest.
The first person ”私” is primarily used by women, but it is also used by men. In the real world, men use it in business-like situations and temporarily when using honorifics, so not many men use it on a daily basis. (Persons of high social status, such as presidents, politicians, and royalty, may always use it.)
However, when it comes to fictional characters, it becomes an accessory that colors their personality.
Hubert's "私"
I believe that this contains the nuances typical of him, who always tries to behave perfectly as Edelgard's aide. Although he is his close aide, he also acts like a butler. In addition, you can feel the extravagance and difficulty of getting along with his classmates.
Ferdinand's "私" I think it's a sign of his confidence. Absolute confidence, perfectionism as it should be. It is the firstperson that is typical of him who carries the proud Aegir family on his back. I think that he, who was born a great nobleman, only has this first person.
*Because of their status and position, characters from the father's generation often use this first person.
Female characters are the most common first person for females, so I will omit them here. (If there is something like "I want you to tell me more about this character", I will accept it)
Next, consider a character that uses the first
person variant of "I".
Written in hiragana (Japanese alphabet) "わたし"
Petra Lysithea leonie
They are younger image than the characters that use the kanji version, and you can feel that they are still growing. Since hiragana is the first character to be learned in the Japanese national language, I think Lysithea is used as an expression of childhood, and Petra is used as an expression of unfamiliarity in learning the language of Fodlan. And Leonie is like a village girl. Although she comes from a commoner family, she has no connection to the aristocratic society, unlike Dorothea, who is also a commoner. I believe that this is how they are used.
…… In addition, three characters using this subspecies of “わたし”
Bernadette Annette hilda
The three of them say "Atashi". 「あたし」
Watashi
By intentionally not pronouncing the W, it makes it look more casual. The first person for women is mainly "私", so I've been using this first person since childhood, but the girl who imitates her parents' words without knowing the letters says "Atashi" even though she's not fluent There are many However, since it does not interfere with my daily life, I do not particularly correct it. She is easy to say when speaking out loud, and there are many adult women who use this way of speaking on a daily basis. In fact, when it comes to colloquial language between family and friends, this one is more familiar. I think it expresses their talkativeness, friendliness, and innocence.
I feel that Hilda's "I" includes the nuance that, despite being a noble, she deliberately shows shyness and uses it as one of the tools to skillfully control her opponent.
I never really thought about it, but when I look at it again, it's a wonderful selection that matches‼
It's been longer than I expected! It will continue to the next…!
It has nothing to do with the text, but I will attach a picture of them. 🙂

Kemetic Influences on Fire Emblem Three Houses (Part 1)
I know I have made a more unstructured post regarding this before; however, I am certain in my assessments that the influence of Ancient Egyptian mythology had on 3H is vast and more varied then I, personally, have seen people discuss. Yes, we know of the etymology behind Sothis and Seiros' names, but I believe these connections go much deeper than the surface level. This will be structured with me discussing what I am most sure in to what is more interpolation on my part. This part about Sothis is so long that it needs to be it's own post entirely. Sothis is based on Hellenistic/Roman period worship of Lady Isis
As we know, Sothis' name can be traced to one of the names of Sirius, specifically the Hellenized name of Sopdet the goddess of said star. However, this is surface level. Sopdet was often syncretized with Isis during the Hellenistic period and in Lady Isis, I believe, there are more clear allusions to Sothis and how she acts as a deity within 3H's world. Lady Isis is an Egyptian deity who was worshiped across the Mediterranean during the Hellenistic and Roman period. Sothis in her mythology, actions, and how she is depicted in-game shares remarkable similarities to Isis. The images and sources I will be using as a reference come from Dr. Andrew M. Henry's (ReligionForBreakfast) video on the topic and FEDatamine for everything regarding 3H.
Sothis and Isis are both "great mother" deities who act as supreme goddesses to their followers.
Even before coming to supreme status in the Mediterranean, Isis was an incredibly important goddess within Egypt. She was the bringer of magic, a guardian of women, a compassionate goddess who wished to relieve all human suffering, and much much more. All of these traits are extremely close if not direct parallels to Sothis. We know that magic within Fodlan is directly connected to Sothis through the visual of all the magic circles (save for Agarthan dark magic) and it can be postulated that, like Isis, Sothis magic was beyond the capabilities of other humans or other deities. Faith magic in particular is directly correlated with the ability to heal and protect, which is one of the main domains of Lady Isis in antiquity and modern day. She was the healer of the sick and injured, so much so that she often traveled in human form so that she could aid those who called out to her. I don't believe it is a coincidence that healing magic was reskinned as faith in this game given that context. And the connections continue beyond that. Consider this text from a temple to Isis in Cyrene:
Tumblr media
During the Hellenistic period, Isis' power and prominence grew to wear she became a supreme goddess within these polytheistic societies. She was believed to be the ruler of time and fate itself, and, as stated here, one of the creators of the cosmos who first set time to course. She was often depicted holding a steering rudder or with the planet beneath her very feet as the goddess through which all fate flows.
Next, take this quote from Lucius Apuleius: The Golden Ass a text from a satirist, but nonetheless believed to hold elements of truth to Isis' worship during the Roman period.
Tumblr media
Once again, we see the language that would describe a supreme, cosmic deity. Compare to similar wording in The Book of Seiros Part 1: "The goddess is all things. She is heaven above and the land below. She is eternity incarnate. She is the present, the past, and the future. Her eyes see all. Her ears hear all. Her hands receive all."
Due to this language, it is believed by some religious scholars, and presented within the video, that within the mysteries of Isis there was an element of henotheism at play. A philosophy within religious practices where one god is worshiped a supreme deity whilst not denying the existence of other gods, and such a system of worship is what I believe to be happening within Fodlan's religious context. Other gods are known to exist, they are spoken of in the Book of Seiros; however, Sothis is supreme goddess of Fodlan.
Now, I ask, what is Sothis' primary characteristics within the Church of Seiros and as depicted in game? She is the supreme Goddess of Fodlan, who's depicted with having control over time and fate itself (literally divine pulse), spoken of as a savior not only in the past but also through the actions of her vessel Byleth, who created all life (or at least the Nabateans) as "The Beginning", and the arbiter of souls as an explicitly afterlife related deity.
All of these traits are direct parallels to Lady Isis, and I am not even finished listing all the similarities. First take this quote from The Book of Seiros Part 2: "In the beginning, amid the great cloudless ocean, Fódlan came to be. At the end of a long journey, the goddess glimpsed that land and there alighted. Upon that sacred ground, she breathed life into the world and created all of the creatures upon it.
By the goddess's hand, plants took root, birds took to the sky, and animals roamed the land. Last of all, she created humanity." Within multiple Egyptian creation myths one of the prevalent and constant features is the primordial ocean of Nun. It was place of nothingness and chaos all at once, a "cloudless ocean" if you will. And from that ocean came the first land, the benben, and from there any number of gods created all life. This includes Isis, who within the inscriptions at Philae, is described to have created all life and the cosmos itself (Žabkar 1988, pp. 134.): "Indeed, she is the Lady of Heaven, Earth, and the Nether World, having brought them into existence through what her heart conceived and her hands created..." Both of them are related to the afterlife and are explicitly called out as deities of fate. Once again from the story of Apuleius:
Tumblr media
Lady Isis' connection to the afterlife as she who guides the soul to it's fate goes back even further in Egyptian texts and she has been a funerary deity all the way back in Old Kingdom Pyramid Texts. Take that in context with Rhea's line of Sothis being the "arbiter of souls" and much of her cosmology in-universe revolving around the afterlife you have another link between them. Isis was said to be able to prolong a person's life if they were to follow her mysteries as she knew the lifespan of all people and could manipulate it with her magics. She also typically interacted with her followers via dreams. This is something Sothis is shown to do constantly with her appearing in Byleth's near death moments, within their dreams (at the beginning of the game and later during her speech regarding Fodlan's plight. And can I say, Sothis being aware of the blood being split and awakening Byleth to explicitly put it to an end is a very much like a savior goddess). Then, in Rhea's backstory, she said that she heard Sothis' voice within the Holy Tomb (or within Enbarr) and that is what lead her to take up the name of Seiros and begin to fight against Nemesis. Sothis inspiring the creation of the Adrestian Empire through Seiros, and Byleth's place to chose the fate of Fodlan, directly correlates to Lady Isis' role as a goddess of kingship. Her protection was explicitly called upon both during the defense of Egypt and during campaigns of military conquest, and that she alone was comparable of armies of soldiers. Isis and Sothis both are also transparently related to nature. They are callers of the rains (cited in the Philae Hymns for elsewhere and in-game for Sothis) and related to bounties of the harvest. In this way, Sothis may also cross into the sphere of Osiris who was more explicitly a fertility god and the ruler of the dead/judge of souls. An interesting similarity can be called to the myth of Osiris' death and dismemberment at the betrayal of his brother Set, Isis' incomplete resurrection of her husband, and Horus' becoming king of Egypt after contending with his uncle where he avenged his father; with how Sothis herself was killed and dismembered for her power, then Seiros' creation of Adrestia (where he also chose the first king) to avenge her mother, and her inability to resurrect her due to Sothis' body being scattered and incomplete (at least, until her ib/Creststone was placed within the intact khet of Byleth). But that is an aside for now. I want to finish this off with a look of the physical similarities between depictions of Isis and Sothis. Once again from Apuleius:
"Firstly her long thick hair in tapering ringlets was loosely spread over her divine neck and shoulders, and her head was crowned with a complex garland of interwoven flowers of every kind. At the centre, over her brow, a flat disc like a mirror or rather a moon-symbol shone with brilliant light. Coiled vipers reared from the right and left of her coronet which was bristling with erect ears of corn. Her multi-coloured robe was of finest linen, gleaming here pure white, here a saffron yellow, there flaming rose-red, with a woven border flowing with flowers and fruit, and what dazzled me most of all was her jet-black cloak with its full sheen, wrapped gleaming about her, slung from the left shoulder, knotted at the breast, and sweeping over her right hip. It hung in sweetly undulating complex folds down to a tasselled fringe, and along its borders and over its surface fell a scatter of glittering stars, round a full moon at the centre breathing fiery rays. And she bore a host of emblems." To me, there are some similarities between this and the depiction of Sothis plus how Rhea dressed and Byleth's Immaculate One outfit. The floral motifs of lotus flowers, the crisp white of Sothis' mural appearance and those of Rhea and Byleth, the crowns of flowers and star motfis, the way Isis bears many emblems around her, much of it bears some similarities to Sothis. But this is not the only depiction of Isis, let me show you some visual representations. Let us compare this mural of Sothis to some depictions of Isis:
Tumblr media
Here are two of Isis from Pompeii with one being a mural and another a famous reconstruction of a statue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, while not 1:1 there are some visual similarities in design. The white linen of her dress and the cut of it are fair similar, as are the wings that are associated with nearly every depiction of Isis. To show and example from Egypt:
Tumblr media
The fact that Sothis is shown with feathered wings in particular feels important given her other similarities with Lady Isis. Plus the throne hieroglyph that represents Isis and often often seen above her head looks exactly like the throne of Sothis as seen in the Holy Tomb. Lady Isis is also known as the "Lady of the Throne" just like how Sothis is called the "Girl on the Throne." The amount of connections between them does not feel like coincidence to me. If you want to take the Romance into account as well, both Sothis and Isis are associated with floods in that case, especially with floods that are said to be caused by their sorrow. Sothis is a savoir deity who protected and saved from Fodlan from the destruction of the Agarthans; she is said to have caused a flood in the one, possible, Agarthan account we have. Her name is Sothis, transcribed from Sopdet, lady of the blue star, who was syncretized with Isis who also became manifest within Sirius. I think I will make one more note: the Rite of the Goddess' Rebirth is transparently related to Wep Ronpet, the cosmological new year in Kemetic religious practice. Both take palace in late July (or into early August for some dates of Wep Ronpet), both are related to the rising of a particular star (the Blue Sea Star is based on Sirius, this fact), both are related to the rebirth of the world and the gods, and both are a day of celebration with family and friends. As one final aside: in Kemetic practice, worship of the gods has always been an intimate and close affair, both in antiquity and in modern practice. Gods are active and immediate presences within the world, and they are presently felt within physical parts of the world. Ra, Aten, and other solar deities are all the sun, Nut the sky, Shu the air and wind. Various "truths" about natural phenomenon could all be true at once and created a multi-facted view of existence. So Sothis having the Blue Sea Star as her "home" are acting as her spiritual double entirely makes sense within this framework. Sothis' laws are also fairly similar to the Laws and philosophical underpinnings of Ma'at; however, delving into that is outside the scope of this post. So I will need to leave things off here.

Blue lions name etymology:
Many of the blue lions' names have western European origins and have many connections to Gods, Saints and Christianity (perhaps because the Kingdom takes their religion and the crest system so seriously)
(side note, I updated the black eagles one, so check it out if you want!)
Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd-
Dimitri: alternative spelling of Demetrius, "devoted to Demeter" (Greek Goddess of the harvest, caused winter after becoming depressed every time her daughter left for the underworld), which was a name given to many kings. Could also relate to the martyr Saint Demetrius, who was depicted wearing armour and holding a spear and died from multiple spear wounds.
Alexandre: "defender of men", also given to many kings
Blaiddyd: "wolf-lord", a legendary king of Briton who was known for encouraging necromancy. He was sent to Athens by his father to learn liberal arts, and the city he founded (Bath) was dedicated to Athena/Minerva, goddess of knowledge and war
Dedue Molinaro-
Dedue: could have origins in the Nubian god Dedun, god of incense and protector of dead Nubian rulers and their funerary rites, who was often depicted as a lion. It could also be related to the name Dudu, originating from Eduardo meaning "guardian of riches"
Molinaro: from the Italian word 'Molino' meaning "mill"
Felix Hugo Fraldarius-
Felix: "lucky, successful"
Hugo: "heart, mind, spirit", may have been chosen because of the link to Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables' with the character Fantine
Fraldarius: The closest anyone can find is 'Fraldario' in Portuguese, meaning "diaper" 😬. If anyone can find something better PLEASE let me know
Ingrid Brandl Galatea-
Ingrid: from the old Norse 'Ingríðr' meaning "Ing is beautiful", Ing or Yngvi is an older name for the god Freyr, god of peace, fertility, rain and sunshine
Brandl: from the Germanic name 'Brando', derived from the element Brand meaning "sword" or "fire", and the crest of Daphnel is from the flame dragon
Galatea: "she who is milk-white" (comes from the myth of Pygmalion, who sculpted a statue of a woman, turned human by Aphrodite, but there were many Galateas in Greek mythology)
Sylvain Jose Gautier-
Sylvain: derived from Sylvanus, Roman god of the countrysides. He was also associated with Pan, god of the wild, shepherds and mountains, but also sex
Jose: Portuguese form of Joseph, "he will add", sometimes used as a feminine middle name
Gautier: French form of Walter, "ruler of the army"
Mercedes Von Martritz-
Mercedes: "mercies", from the Spanish name of the Virgin Mary, María de las Mercedes, "Mary of Mercies"
Martritz: the closest anyone can find is Martlet, meaning "little martin", martlet birds represent swiftness of travel or fighting on the battlefield and martin birds represent a connection to the divine and good luck
Annette Fantine Dominic-
Annette: diminutive of Anne, derived from Hebrew 'hannâ' meaning "grace, gracious"
Fantine: "free", "childlike" or "infant", a character in Les Miserables who was a beautiful and naive girl until she was forced into prostitution for her child
Dominic: from Latin Dominicus, meaning "of the lord", also the name of Saint Dominic, who was described as having reddish hair, beautiful eyes and a pleasingly resonant voice
Ashe Duran-
Ashe: "ash tree", also another spelling of Yoruba concept meaning "the power to make things happen and produce change"
Ubert: could be a variant of the surname Uber, meaning "active, busy, enterprising", or Ebert which comes from the German word for boar. This could also be another variation of Hubert, so as I said in the last post, "bright heart/mind". Ashe's Japanese surname, Duran, means "enduring"

Fallen Dragons, Falling Stars Map
Hey guys! I made a map for FDFS that I wanted to share with you all, since my brother says it's one of the best maps of Fodlan he's seen. So I hope it might help you all. Some of it is guesswork of my own and it's certainly not perfect, but I like it.
First, the sources:
Tumblr media
I got this map off of reddit.com via google. It's from a post made by extremeq16. This specific, updated version is linked and can be found here. This was used exclusively as a reference for borders between territories and countries. If you are extremeq16 and would like me to remove your image, message me and I will do so.
Tumblr media
This one I found on inkarnate.com via google. It was created by Jakkafang for a FE3H campaign. This one does give explicit permission for usage as long as you don't claim it as your own.
Tumblr media
This one was found on deviantart.com via google. It was created by Santafer as a collective map of several different games. I just used the left-most part of Regna Ferox. If you are Santafer and would like me to remove your image, message me and I will do so.
Which brings us to my final product!
Tumblr media
I had a similar map that I used for months, but then I found out extremeq16 had released an updated version of their map and had to completely redo it. Hopefully this doesn't upset my war plans too much.
(Albinea? Who? I don't know her.)
A big shout out to extremeq16, Jakkafang, and Santafer for their amazing work! This map would not have been possible without you.

My thoughts on Spy x Family: EYES ONLY Guidebook (English ver) - part 1
Tumblr media
I finished reading through my copy of the English version of the SxF manga guidebook "EYES ONLY." There's tons of fantastic information about the series, but I wanted to share my thoughts/commentary on parts that were the most interesting to me. Since there's so much content to cover, I'll be dividing it into a few different posts. Also, rather than go in the order of the book's sections, I decided to group the content based on topic. This first post will cover Endo's comments about the characters individually, as well as information about Garden.
Endo's Q&As and comments about the characters
Loid:
Tumblr media
I like that Endo provides a reason for why Loid wears a WISE logo pin as it's something more than one fan of the series has questioned! And I totally agree with Lin about his "lack of distinctive features." Compared to so many other anime characters, especially shonen main characters, Loid's design is so plain, particularly in his hair and clothes. At least in his spy outfit he has a gun to make him a little flashier, but when he's in his casual clothes, he literally just looks like "some guy," haha. But that also makes sense for his character.
Tumblr media
I love how Endo gave specific numbers for comparing Loid and Yor's strength (Yor: 10, Loid: 6-7)
Anya:
Tumblr media
I did notice what Endo is talking about how Anya's design changed over time. But that can be said for all the characters really, and it's definitely not uncommon for manga-ka's styles to evolve as they get a better feel for their characters and world.
Tumblr media
He mentions the classical language thing that was also brought up in chapter 42. Definitely makes me think that will somehow tie into her backstory.
Speaking of Anya's backstory, there was this little excerpt about the researchers at the lab. So one thing we can say for sure about her past is that she was not treated well there at all (which has been hinted at in the series).
Tumblr media
Endo also discussed the origin of Anya's pink hair (namely, there really isn't any origin, lol).
Tumblr media
Yor:
Tumblr media
Interesting that he spent the most time designing Yor, and also about the origin of her stilettoes. And his apology to the cosplayers for that bonus feature about Yor's hair, haha.
Tumblr media
I had to chuckle when he said they can't measure her strength because she keeps breaking the instruments! Also the fact that she hasn't learned how to make a single successful meal since the stew…Endo is such a savage sometimes, lol. But keep in mind that this book was originally published over a year ago, and obviously we know from recent chapters that her cooking is improving. I also like that he mentions that she has left witnesses to her work, like in Extra Mission 2. I wonder if that will be a bigger plot point somewhere down the line.
Like Anya having pink hair, Endo expresses some regret about making Yor an assassin (but his laugh makes it clear he's not terribly hung up about it!)
Tumblr media
Bond:
Tumblr media
I know some people are bothered by the fact that Yor is Bond's least favorite. But I think Bond's (initial) dislike for her originated from the chapter where he assumes he would have died from her cooking. Also the fact that Anya put the idea in his head that she would "murder" him if he did something she didn't like, like shun her food (which is obviously heavily exaggerated). But again, this book was published over a year ago, and the most recent chapter revealed that he definitely doesn't dislike her even if she's not his favorite. It's perfectly normal for pets to have family members they prefer over others for whatever reason.
Franky:
Tumblr media
I love that Franky does charity work. I hope we'll see that in a future chapter.
Fiona:
Tumblr media
It's interesting that he ranks Fiona's combat ability so low, especially when you consider what she did to Wheeler in the recent arc. But to me, that wasn't so much a display of combat prowess as it was totally raw, uninhibited willpower.
Yuri:
Tumblr media
I love his blunt answer about whether Yuri has other interests besides Yor. Also intriguing that he mentions Nightfall when discussing Yuri's combat ability…maybe those two will meet eventually?
Information about Garden
Since Garden is still such a mysterious entity in the SxF universe, I tried to gather everything about them that the book mentions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's interesting that Yor sees Shopkeeper as her mentor since he taught her survival skills in her youth. The book also raises the question about how Yor found Garden in the first place…maybe something Endo will expand on in the future?
Tumblr media
So the information Franky gives us about Garden is exaggerated? Gah, that just makes them even more mysterious!
Tumblr media
The above was a cool bit of trivia...so it seems like the secret police might know more about Garden than WISE. Perhaps Yuri will find out about Yor's real identity before Twilight?

Spy x Family volume 12 omake chapter translation and new pages
Volume 12 of the SxF manga was just released and it included a hilarious extra chapter about Anya and Becky's zoo visit! Here are my translations (I only have MS Paint so sorry for the poor editing!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(shoutout to RAF on Discord for providing the raw images!)
This was such a great extra chapter, not just because Anya and Becky are hilarious as ever, but as usual, even in a humorous situation, Endo manages to slip in a serious theme without disrupting the comedy. This actually reminds me of a story my mom told me where, back when she was a kid in the 50s/60s, she went to a similar zoo exhibit that featured "the most dangerous animal of all," but inside was just a mirror.
I hope Endo had fun drawing lots of different animals! 😁
In addition to the omake chapter, the volume also features a few new illustrations.

Sylvia is on the cover and, keeping in line with Endo's tradition of showcasing the characters' inner/true selves on the inside cover, that's also what we have for her here!

I'm planning to pick up my own copy of the volume this weekend 😀

Ashen Wolves name etymology:
I forgot that I had this in my notes! Time to finish of my overanalysis of three houses characters' names. From what I can tell, the ashen wolves' names seem to be of very old origin and connected to ancient history
Yuri Leclerc:
Yuri: In Japanese, Yuri has a lot of different meanings depending on the Kanji used, such as "reason", "logic", "friend", "village", "lily", ect. In Russian, Yuri means "farmer" and is a variant of George. I don't think there's much of a link, but it's worth mentioning that George is the name of the saint who was put to death for refusing to renounce Christianity and inspired the myth of St George and the dragon. The name Yuri exists in many different languages, but these two are the most prevalent. I assume this is supposed to represent Yuri's ambiguous nature and his false identities
Leclerc: A french occupational name for clerks or scribes
Constance Von Nuvelle:
Constance:  medieval form of the Latin name Constans, meaning "constant, steadfast". Constans was name of one of Constantine the Great's sons, who ended up taking control of their kingdom after the deaths of his brothers, but he lost the support of his people, was chased out and killed
Nuvelle: a different spelling of Neuville, meaning "new town"
Balthus Von Albrecht:
Balthus: Comes from Balthazar, the name of one of the three wise men in Christianity. He was said to be a king of Macedonia and gave the gift of Myrrh, a perfume that was used to anoint dead kings. Also, he's apparently the patron of playing card manufacturers??
Albrecht: Comes from Albert, made of two German words; adal, meaning "noble", and berht, meaning "bright". Common among Medieval German royalty
Hapi:
Hapi was the Egyptian god of the annual flooding of the Nile. They were an androgynous figure that symbolised fertility due to the fertile soil the floods brought the area, and were said to help maintain the balance of the cosmos
Aelfric Dahlman:
Aelfric: Old English, meaning "elf ruler", probably symbolic of how Aelfric watches over abyss seeing as elves/fae folk are said to live underground. Apparently it belonged to many notable medieval churchmen
Dahlman: A topographical name for someone who lived in a valley
Sitri:
Sitri is a Great Prince in demonology, who was said to have the power to make men and women fall in love with each other and can reveal women's secrets in order to mock them. He is closely connected to Seth, the Egyptian god of chaos.
