I didn’t give up… There were many times I wanted to start a course, but in the end, I would just give up. These last 12 weeks of creating Skyrocket Your Business with YouTube have taught me a lot about myself and how I can overcome some of my weaknesses. The 1st lesson I learned was to stop focusing on the big picture. Each week, I had a different goal to complete. There were times I procrastinated because I was overwhelmed by the end goal. Instead, I made myself focus on little goals each week. My idea turned into a survey. This turned into an outline of what I wanted to create. That led to creating a waiting list and then a sales page. After that, I focused on building my course. Now, I have my first course done. The 2nd lesson I learned is to throw away anything that doesn’t work. During this time, I had tech problems. I almost let those problems hold me back from creating my course. I was so focused on the problem that I wasted time and energy that could have gone into doing something productive. Finally, I gave up on the tech issue and switched to something I knew would work. Don’t get hung up on something that’s causing you problems. Skip it and try again later. If it doesn’t work, then give up on it and try a different solution. The 3rd lesson I learned is to be myself and do it my way. I had problems with feedback from people (mostly a family member) who didn’t understand what I was doing. I had to learn to tune out negative thoughts and believe in myself and what I wanted to achieve. Honestly, I had a lot of goals I wanted to achieve during these last 12 weeks. I wanted to create this course, a Udemy course, and an Etsy shop. But, I was dreaming too big. Luckily, I decided to focus on Skyrocket Your Business with YouTube first. I got that done. Yesterday, my Udemy course was approved. As of right now, I have 986 students enrolled. Next week, I’m going to start working on my Etsy shop. Thank you for taking this journey with me. After dreaming about creating this for a few years now, I finally got the courage to just go for it! A few years ago, I decided to create an email course and sell it at a low cost. I’m all about a positive mindset, but I’m also human. I get scared. I’m afraid to step out of my comfort zone. There’s always a fear of doing something new. It’s okay to doubt, be afraid, and protect yourself from the unknown. I once thought skydiving was so cool UNTIL I GOT ON THE PLANE! I was excited when signing up, had a good time goofing around with my friends trying on the jumpsuit and equipment, and was impatient when my instructor was late. But the minute I saw someone falling out of the plane door, I panicked. Why did I do this? Are you crazy? I don’t want to do this. I’m NOT going to do this. My instructor pushed me forward and I scooted back from the door. It became a tug a war game. Finally, my instructor was bigger and stronger than me so he pushed me out the door. I closed my eyes and thought I was DEAD. I’m DEAD! Then, I opened my eyes and got curious. I saw myself plunging to my death and I was scared. Then I wondered what would happen when I screamed. So I tried it and thought it was amazing and useless. It just felt like a neverending fall. Finally, I pulled the parachute and the world became beautiful. I started floating down and seeing a different world. Nature is such a wonderful, mysterious, and beautiful thing. Then I did a perfect landing and laughed along with my friends about our experience. It’s an experience I will always remember. If I had fought with my instructor seriously and stayed on the plane (it was an option), I would have never experienced such an amazing view of the world. That’s how I view business. If I had never taken that one step, I wouldn’t know how awesome it was to do what I do. The same goes for creating videos for my business. I was scared, I complained, and I fought against myself. Now, I love it and don’t know why I didn’t start earlier. A few weeks ago I had to present in front of my Korean class. After filming over 70 YouTube videos, I thought ‘I got this.’ I was so wrong! As soon as I got up in front of the whole class, I was shaking and as I spoke, my voice cracked. So embarrassing… My presentation was fire, but I was not. So, what happened? I thought my stage fright was cured, but it wasn’t. Filming videos alone in my room and talking in front of 30+ people are different. As an introvert, I’m more comfortable speaking one-on-one or in small groups. That’s why filming videos is perfect for me. Maybe one day I’ll be able to conquer my stage fright, but this is something that has been going on for 30+ years. My anxiety is so bad that I start shaking and sweating before it’s even my turn to present. It’s not something I’ll get comfortable with overnight. Blog or Vlog? If you’re an introvert like me, you might choose a blog. BUT, when it comes to consuming content, videos are simpler and easier to follow than a blog. I remember I needed help with the database for my website. Something wasn’t working right, so I googled it. First I tried to follow the instructions from 3 different blogs. Nothing worked. Then, I found a YouTube video. It solved my problem quickly because it was easier to follow than reading those blog posts. Has this ever happened to you? That’s why when I have to choose between reading a blog or watching a vlog, I’ll choose the vlog every time. It’s faster and easier to follow along. Besides this, from a business aspect vlogs are great because you can repurpose them into blogs, Instagram videos, reels, Facebook posts, and more. It’s been 5 years since I’ve been in business and the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to take the shortest and easiest route possible. I used to do everything from scratch and I did it all myself. I was overworked and burned out. I was all about the 24/7 hustle until you make it mindset. Then my health was affected and I was forced to take a long break. Before I jumped back into my business, I had to think about all the things I did that made me unhealthy. That’s when I decided to make business easier on myself. I started with things that I do every day for my business. First, I created systems and processes for all my content, social media, and services in Asana. Then I created templates for anything and everything I could like blog posts, scripts, blog post graphics, YouTube thumbnails, landing pages, Instagram, and more. All my graphic templates are drag and drop. Now, everything thing I do from my content creation to client work is more efficient. That means I do all the same work I was doing before but get it done in half the time. Film your first video challenge Follow this 5-day challenge and you’ll have your first video uploaded by the end of the week. Day 01 Brainstorm simple topics you’re comfortable talking about. Just write down anything that comes to mind. Day 02 Outline a short script for one of your topics. You don’t have to make this complicated. Just think about what you want to talk about for less than 5 minutes. Day 03 Grab your phone and film your first video. Don’t worry about making mistakes because you can edit them out later. Day 04 Review your video and edit out your bloopers. You can find a simple app on your phone or use what you have on your laptop or desktop. Day 05 Upload your video!
