NESTA ARCHERON
There is an obscene, and frankly unfair, amount of hate towards Nesta Archeron in this fandom. I want to breakdown some of the arguments that I typically see said against her and use canonical evidence to debunk them.
1 — Nesta abused Feyre. I see this line said so consistently to the point where I see a video of any type on Nesta and expect it in the comments. Abuse is a word thrown languidly around this fanbase, but only ever applied correctly to so few characters. The abuse that antis tend to provide are: Emotional and financial. I’ll speak on the financial abuse allegations first. Feyre was the breadwinner for the family during their time in the cabin—she held the money. Feyre is the one who distributed the money to her sisters as she saw fit. Neither Elain nor Nesta stole money from Feyre. What they did with the bits that Feyre gave them is their prerogative. However, we do know that Elain needed a new cloak and Nesta needed new shoes.
Tumblr media
As for the shoes argument, you need context to understand this. Feyre’s shoes were falling apart due to being outdoors often. While Nesta may not have been outside as often, wearing the same shoes for long periods of time wears them down. We found out in ACOSF that her shoes had holes in them and were not suitable to continue wearing. Certainly, Feyre’s shoes would be worse off and she would compare the state of her own to Nesta’s—that doesn’t mean that Nesta’s shoes weren’t also worse off by different standards.
People tend to say that Nesta was emotionally abusive towards Feyre.
Tumblr media
I want to remind everyone that being mean to your sibling is not mutually exclusive to being emotionally abusive. Feyre herself has even expressed that she and Nesta were constantly at odds with one another—they both contributed to their lacking relationship in the cabin. Nesta never said something without cause, as she typically spoke in retaliation of being instigated against. As for Nesta being emotionally abusive to other characters—that does not exist. Certainly, there are times where she does go too far in her reactions and her tongue is like a whip, but context needs to be added into those scenes to see what was said and why she said what she did.
A reminder that living in poverty in such close corners for a long can affect relationships with those within the same situation as you. Feyre, Elain and Nesta all shared one bed and the cabin was not large enough for private spaces. For years, the sisters and their father were forced to endure starvation, harsh weather, unfavorable clothing conditions, etc. Their remaining family abandoned them and they had to use what little they did know of being fully independent to help make their situation any better.
2 — Nesta is selfish. I see this thrown around pretty often to the point where it has lost any semblance of meaning. People tend to say this because of how Nesta protects herself by lashing out. Feyre expresses that Nesta feels too much and this outward expression is how she copes with all of the emotions she feels internally. Now, back to Nesta being selfless.
ACOTAR — Nesta managed to overcome the glamour that Tamlin used on her and she travelled for over a week through the rough winter woods to the Wall to rescue Feyre. The same woods that Feyre had described as being too dangerous if you venture too far in. The same Wall that Tamlin and Lucien expressed were crawling with Amarantha’s monsters. Nesta had no experience with physical strength and self defense; she was determined to save her sister. The only reason she turned back was due to the mercenary telling her to do so. A reminder as well that she would always put Elain and her well-being over her own life first.
ACOMAF — While Nesta was apprehensive at first to allow Feyre and the others into her home—a reminder that she was taught to hate fae from childhood—she still allowed them in her home. Nesta also was the one who reached out to the Queens and was the one to beg them to give Feyre the other half of the Book of Breathings to save both Prythian and the mortal lands. In the throne room directly after being turned fae, she was immediately on Elain to check and make sure her sister was fine. Nesta did not even bother to glance at herself.
ACOWAR — Nesta worried about Elain and her health for the entire time they were in the House of Wind. She begged her sister to eat. Nesta trained her powers in order to be helpful towards the war despite not wanting to do so. Nesta went to the High Lord meeting and was the one to turn the favor towards Feyre and Rhysand to gain stronger allegiance for the war. Nesta used herself as bait against the King of Hybern so that Feyre and Amren could have a clear path to the cauldron. Nesta was willing to give her life up with Cassian instead of leaving him there to die.
ACOSF — Being Nesta’s book, we of course saw her darkest moments, but also her greatest. She helped to revitalize the Valkyries with Gwyn and Emerie, inspiring SA victims from the library to gain back their autonomy. Despite her own depression and PTSD, she risked her life more than once to find the pieces of the Trove. When in the prison, Nesta immediately came back to help Cassian against Lanthys when she easily could have left. Despite her trauma of being groomed as a child, she allowed herself to be used once again as bait against Eris. Her first thought when she woke up during the Great Rite was if Gwyn and Emerie were alright, and she searched for them. She allowed Gwyn and Emerie to become Carynthian and to win the Blood Rite while she defended them against Bellius. When Cassian was going to kill himself, she unleashed her magic and defeated Briallyn. Immediately after the Blood Rite, she sacrificed her magic to save the life of Feyre, Nyx and Rhysand. In that moment, all she thought about was Feyre and how much she loved her sister.
Nesta Archeron is one of the most selfless characters in this entire series. She does have her moments where she prioritizes herself and her own pride, but so does every other character. The amount of good that she has done across the series outweighs the bad by such a large margin.
BONUS (one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen someone say about Nesta):
3 — Nesta told Feyre about her pregnancy in order to kill the baby. This is probably the most outlandish thing an anti has said about Nesta. For those who read the scene and came to that conclusion, I urge you to read again. The scene reads as Nesta had just found out that the Inner Circle had voted on her once again behind her back. Her consent was once again removed from her. She goes to confront Amren and Varian goes and warns Feyre. When Feyre shows up and begins to interject, Nesta uses this as an opportunity to showcase to Feyre how the people you know, love, and trust are not always who you think they are—especially when they make decisions for you behind your back. Nesta immediately regretted saying anything once she realized exactly what she had done. She never had any intention of killing Feyre, or her nephew.
There’s plenty more that I could add to this post, but it is already long enough. I’ll probably make it a series and go more in depth with Nesta’s character.
A final reminder that the blame for Feyre hunting is not supposed to be placed on Nesta. Feyre made it very clear that she did so to uphold the promise she made with Mama Archeron, but also Papa Archeron should have stepped up for his daughters. Nesta was also a child and should not have parental roles projected upon her.

nestas prickliness and pride and modesty were some of my favorite things that made me latch onto her character. that prickliness and defiance used as a shield to protect herself. That pride that prevented her from falling into despair
Her modesty was so simple and so comfortable for her character. in this day and age where most female characters can't be #feminist unless they're missing half their clothes and be hypersexual made Nestas character a fresh breath of air
A quiet, prickly, educated woman who would rather be left to her own devices and read or listen to music. I feel like she'd have a fondness for simple gestures, she'd be so comfortable with traditional courting and romances
I think she's cling onto books like Little Women. I think she'd sit there and listen to live string music with a book in some small pub until she was the very last one to leave bec she was there enjoying her solitude with a book and with music
my heart aches for a Nesta who is prideful, who is prickly and modest, a Nesta who cares so much to the point she pushes all her feelings behind wall after wall so she doesn't drown, a Nesta who will not compromise her integrity to make others like her, a Nesta who will draw a line in the sand and not budge from what she knows is right

I genuinely want to know how people read ACOSF and HOFAS and came to the conclusion that the next book is going to be Elain and Azriel dealing with the Dusk Court. How did people manage to come up with that idea?

This is a Lucien Vanserra defense post.
Remember when Eris and his brothers had Feyre and Lucien surrounded in the Winter Court, how Rhys-her mate-couldn’t get to her on time? Did you know it was because he was so far away that he had to send Cassian and Azriel to help them because they were closer? He was in the Continent. Exactly where Lucien was when Elain was taken by Hybern.
“Mor said you were far away-that was why you weren’t there” “I’m sorry I wasn’t” “No,” I said, lifting my head to scan his eyes, the guilt dampening them. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just…” I savored the feel of him beneath my palms. “Where were you?” (…) “I was on the continent. At the human queens’ palace.”
Rhys, the most powerful High Lord of Prythian’s history, couldn’t get to his mate because he was far away at the human lands. To add even more distance to where Lucien actually is, there is a note made by Cassian about how very far away Vassa’s kingdom really is:
“But if she’s cursed, who would lead it? And if her kingdom is so far away…they have to travel the mortal way, too. You remember how slowly they moved, how quickly they died-“
Also, we know it was dangerous to winnow in or out of the Human Lands. Winnowing can be tracked, like they tracked Rhysand before Feyre found the Suriel when he told her they were mates. And this mission Lucien was going on? It was dangerous and delicate and extremely important. That’s why Lucien had to be dropped at the edge of the human lands and continue on foot.
Lucien nodded, glancing to where my mate now waited by the front door. He’d bring Lucien to the edge of the human continent - to wherever Lucien had decided would be the best landing spot. No farther, Azriel had insisted. His reports indicated it was too watched, too dangerous. Even for one of our own. Even for the most powerful High Lord in history.
So, Lucien had to go to the continent the old fashioned way and stay there until he found the queen Elain had seen in her visions. And that kingdom was so far away, that he could not winnow at a moment’s notice.
Not to mention the fact that Lucien himself is not a very powerful winnower:
“Once Lucien touched me, he’d winnow us out. Not far-he wasn’t that powerful-but he was fast”
So maybe there were reasons why he couldn’t get to Elain right away when he felt the bond go silent. And yes, Azriel was closer and did rescue her. And yes, it was a deliberate decision on SJM’s part to write Lucien away from Elain in those moments, but what he was doing certainly balanced the war in their favor at the end.
So it’s unfair to say that he did nothing (we don’t know what he felt in those moments) and exhibited no “mate behavior” for Elain (whatever that means). Rhys had an accepted mating bond and even he couldn’t reach his mate on time.
Lucien found papa Archeron, found the queen HIS MATE sent him to retrieve and brought back an army that helped win the war. Put some respect on Lucien Vanserra Spell-Cleaver’s name.

Can I ask WHY ACOSF had to be about making Cassian a courtier and Nesta a warrior when the storyline of brilliant, cunning, kill you with her political skills Nesta and strong, rutheless, kill you by just killing you Cassian is RIGHT THERE?
Like you wrote the line, Sarah - “he would be her sword.”
Imagine the dynamic that would create - I can practically HEAR Rhys smirking and plucking invisible lint as he goes over a political problem he’d rather not wage war over - “First, we send Nesta. Then, if she deems it necessary … her mate can join her.”
Nesta: laying out terms for a treaty, “this is our final offer and you would be wise to accept it before we are forced to take further action”
Courtier(snarling, probably): “Yeah, you and what army?”
Cassian (busting through the doors with like 6 weapons strapped to him): “THAT’D BE ME PRETTY BOY THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY???”

I want to explain my stance on each of the remaining couples as unbiased as I possibly can be. This will detail why I prefer certain ships over others.
ELUCIEN 🦊🦌🌻
— I have adored Elain and Lucien as a couple from the moment they became mates in ACOMAF. Their bond snapped immediately upon their eyes meeting, which is both the first we have seen of an immediate bond snapping, and also the first instance we have seen of both people in the pair knowing about the mating bond prior to the relationship. Their personalities are so similar, though both are currently muted due to their complex trauma responses. Their interests align and interlace with one another. Aesthetic wise, their relationship just merged so well in my head when I picture them. My own personal thoughts aside, the plot structure supports them as the endgame couple based on how carefully they’ve been placed in the Koschei arc. Elucien is regency coded and I can only imagine how beautiful their tension is going to be.
GWYNRIEL 🤍🖤💙
— I could tell pretty early on that they will become one of the endgame couples. SJM emphasized their specific interactions, exemplifying on banter and other characters picking up on both Azriel and Gwyn focusing their attention onto one another. The dynamic between them is based in equality and mutual respect, as they have both seen one another in moments that they hide from others and they still choose to face each other. They have such similar responses to trauma and their own inner reflections are very similar. I believe that Gwyn would challenge Azriel, which is what he needs in a relationship. The mate language used in the ACOSF bonus chapter from Azriel’s POV also points out that they are contenders for becoming endgame. Plot wise, ACOSF had so much symbolism and foreshadowing for Gwyn being tied to Dusk, and HOFAS further tied Azriel to the Dusk Court arc. I would love to see them teamed up on spy missions!
ELRIEL 🌷🦇🥀
— I completely understand why people ship Elain and Azriel—that is, until ACOSF. The aesthetic that Elriel offers is romantic and charged and I could even find myself enjoying this ship, if not for the plot arcs and the overwhelming potential of both Elucien and Gwynriel. Elriel has always read very flat to me, as if two people are being forced together in a scene without any build-up, or chemistry. I never felt the urge to read about them and I was very confused when I read the ACOSF Azriel bonus chapter and saw any sort of romantic undertones portrayed between them. A major turn off from this ship was the bonus chapter, as well. I was displeased with Azriel’s thoughts towards Elain and his objectification of her in his conversation with Rhysand. Had Azriel made it clear that he would have fought for Elain, or that he loved her, I could see myself leaning more towards this couple. The remaining plot also do not support Elriel as an endgame couple.
VASSIEN 🔥🐦‍🔥❤️‍🔥
— I do not understand this ship much at all, aside from the one line that Feyre uses in ACOWAR to title them the, “Lord of Fire and Bird of Flame.” I have always seen this couple being used as a way to cut a divide between Elain and Lucien, but there does not seem to be any romantic undertones between them. Vassa and Lucien read as platonic. As Elain and Lucien offer us the information that we need for the Koschei arc—and Elain can offer us the same information that Vassa can from her visions—we know that Vassa will not hold a book as a FMC. Vassa and Jurian have been set up to be endgame from the language used in the books—the same language that SJM uses across all books to describe her endgame couples.

I have seen a few people saying that using the line, “I have a degree in XYZ,” is condescending and cannot be used as an argument. I must disagree for a few reasons.
1 — A degree elevates your understanding of certain topics, especially in relation to your field. For example, I have a Bachelors of Architecture and I work professionally as an architect. While my degree does not make me better than others—especially those not within the field of architecture/not holding an architecture degree—it elevates my understanding of the built environment. I have background knowledge in how buildings are designed and constructed and I understand the language associated with this field. Degrees in English, Literature, Language, et cetera., allows an elevated understanding of work within that field.
2 — Having a degree in literature, and using that as a means to explain credentials to your audience, is not condescending. It is similar to someone with a background in medicine offering advice to someone within that realm of expertise. Someone using their degree to explain certain literary devices, contextual evidence, foreshadowing, et cetera., allows for casual readers who may not recognize these elements to understand why certain things may have been said/happened within the books. The degree holder has that elevated understanding that allows them to title elements, relate their knowledge to the text, and be articulate in how they explain such to others.
3 — No, someone holding a degree in literature, English, language, et cetera., is not SJM. However, SJM holds the same degree and follows industry standards. Typically, fields work on a basis that is expanded upon dependent on the author, editing team, genre, et cetera. SJM uses basic literary devices to craft her story, uses the basics of the genres she uses to direct her story, and uses her own skill to continue the story—industry standards.
Both sides of this ridiculous ship war boasts about having certain degrees in order to make an argument seem more plausible. The books have been torn apart and analyzed to no end and will more than likely continue to be until the series is finished—and even after it is done. Allow people to enjoy what they want without criticizing them for using their degree to explain their stance.

I’m sorry but you don’t have a problem with Gwyn being drawn in nsfw art you just have a problem with her being drawn with Azriel.
You don’t have a problem with Gwyn ending up with her “saviour” and a saviour/survivor relationship would be “uncomfortable” you just have a problem with Gwyn ending up with Az.
because if you actually think it’s uncomfortable then why were you okay with Rhys and Feyre romance? wasn’t she the one who saved Rhys and basically stopped the sa? I don’t see you having a problem with that.
Please stop with the excuses already. And stop attacking artists.

And when she does, the choice is almost too easy.
I want Elain to have the privilege of experiencing the Lucien that Feyre knew.
The snarky, charming, silver-tongued gentleman.
The cutie with the braying laugh who takes it a step too far and gets thrown into the water by his friends.
The one who thoroughly puts the idea of "dallying" in your head.
The one who holds you, murmuring and stroking your hair in the middle of the night when you wake him up needing comfort.
The one who will both speak his mind but still hold you close so you won't freeze.
The one who will put his body between you and someone believed to be a savage killer while the high lord he serves drops to his knees in surrender to said killer.
The one who's simultaneously unpredictable with the best self-control.
The one who ties his hair back and catches fish with his bare hands.
The one with fire in his blood in more ways than one.
The one everyone underestimates but will eventually regret doing so.
I want Elain to know him.

THE ELUCIEN MATING BOND
This will be solely focused on the mating bond rejection, as I plan on doing an in-depth analysis later this month [possibly early June] where I break down each book and document symbolism, parallels, and foreshadowing tied to Elain and Lucien. This is just going to be my thoughts on the actual mating bond and the conversation surrounding a potential rejection.
Simply: The bond will not be rejected.
SJM being a fated mates author aside, all the reader has to do is look at, first, the set-up of the spin off series and also the timeline of the last remaining plot arcs. The spin off series is broken into three main books set as dual POV romantic pairings, and a supplemental novella. A Court of Silver Flames took two main cast characters out of the running [Nesta and Cassian] and have left us with Elain, Azriel, Lucien, Mor, Gwyn, Emerie, Eris. As Feyre and Rhysand were the main voices in the original trilogy, they will not have a major POV in the spin off series. That being said, the plot arcs are working as the drivers for the romantic pairings. ACOWAR and so forth has paired Elain and Lucien into the Koschei arc. ACOSF and HOFAS have tied Nesta and Azriel into the same plot with the Dusk Court arc—however, as I mentioned before, Nesta has already had a major POV and will not be repeated. Who else has been built up to have a POV and can also hold ties in Dusk? Gwyn.
Following up, now that we are aware of the plot arcs and the dual POVs for the following books—I surmise the novella will have Mor, Eris and Emerie—now we can get into the rejected mating bond. The main argument surrounding the rejection is broken down into two pieces: SJM speaking about choice in an interview, and Feyre and Azriel questioning the cauldron. The first argument is easy to debunk—SJM did not give a major spoiler in an interview, nor would she do so in an interview that many people would not have access to/would not watch. The second is just as easy to debunk—both Feyre and Azriel came from a place of bias against Lucien. Feyre had just left Spring and associates that and what happened to her sisters with Lucien. Azriel wants a mate and wonders why his brothers have two of the Archeron sisters, but “the third” was given to another male. If the cauldron had been questioned by a third party without direct ties to either Elain or Lucien, that would be a different story.
We do not have enough time left in the series to properly explore a rejected bond. As the rejected bond affects the males more, we would need to explore it in the long term to see how Lucien is dealing with the mental repercussions of such a thing happening. He and Elain will still always have their bond, and we would need to see how they react to that. As this is would be the first mating bond rejection across the Maasverse, a simple, “I reject you,” is not enough with such little information for the reader to understand exactly what happens in the aftereffects. That being said, we would also need Lucien’s POV immediately after Elain rejects the bond to see how he is affected—meaning, Elain and Lucien have to be within the same book. If Elain rejects the bond in a book with Azriel, and the readers have to wait until Lucien’s book, it loses its effect and becomes anticlimactic.
In order for the rejected bond to be impactful, Elain would have to fully explore the bond with Lucien, get to know him, otherwise is would be lackluster for her to immediately reject the bond and end up with Azriel. The bond is just as much Lucien’s as it is her’s.
Finally, allow us to debunk Vassien. Not only is Vassa set up to be endgame with Jurian, it is unrealistic given the circumstances for she and Lucien to be endgame. Lucien would have just been rejected and would be dealing with the aftereffects, will have to still deal with his plethora of plots and Koschei, and somehow fall in love with a human queen who will die in only a handful of decades? On top of that, there is nothing that Vassa can offer to the plot that both Elain and Lucien have not already told us, or will tell us. Vassa is a supplementary character. Elain would have to both get to know Lucien enough to reject the bond in a literary sense, and also set up Vassa to be the next FMC. On top of that, it was Elain who introduced us to Koschei and began that arc—why would Vassa get the credit for defeating Koschei?
Tl;dr — the bond is not getting rejected.

My #1 biggest fear for future ACOTAR books is that SJM will make Eris and Cassian friends. And that she’ll have Eris make some groveling apology to Cassian for how he’s treated him, or will have Eris admit that “yes, you were right, I was a coward”, and Cassian will graciously accept, never once reflecting on his own behavior, content to remain the innocent victim in every aspect of his life. I will die a little inside if this happens.

I’m sorry but you can’t tell me you genuinely believe elain doesn’t know she can reject the mating bond
so maybe she didn’t ask feyre or nesta about it, I can get by with that, but do you really think her sisters never told her themselves since she is so uncomfortable? like, they noticed it (we saw it in both their povs) and most definitely told her
especially feyre since she is in the position of offering her full protection if she chose to reject it (rhysand has literally said the words)
protection from what I don’t know, because lucien would respect her wishes I have no doubts about that but I digress
besides all of this, don’t some of you claim that nuala and cerridwen are her chosen family? they wouldn’t have told her either, even without her asking?
and also, it’s not like she’s confined anywhere lol she can ask a literal stranger on the street or go to a goddamn library idk even ask a priestess
literally ask azriel since they are in love and know each other so well and are each other’s confidant
like let’s be for real rn
and just another besides, elain is not clueless! she may be soft and kind but she is not stupid and claims like this just anger me cause she has proven again and again that she will make do with any situation she is put in, eventually
you ship what you ship, I won’t argue with that but let’s not be ridiculous
I know this won’t fare well, but sometimes the nonsense gets to me too
I apologize for the rant
