The core appeal of Willy Wonka is that he's a nigh-omnipotent maniac who uses his near limitless powers over reality to trick shitty people into killing themselves. You can't make him the protagonist of a whimsical coming of age tale - you have to treat him like Jason Voorhees, or Dracula, or any other horror icon. Give him some new victims and new interesting kills and set him loose, that's all audiences want.

I was thinking about the naming choices in Demons, and I suppose Nikolai Vsevolodovich gets his first name just as a ‘perfectly Russian name’, and then Vsevolod literally means ‘lord of everything’, i.e. Nikolai is the ‘son of God’, a Christ-figure ; his character expresses the conflict between the divine and the mortal, the ‘two natures in one person’.
Given that, there’s something in Pyotr being derived from petrus, him being named for ‘the rock on which I shall build my church’, especially if we accept the idea that Nikolai was something of a living idol and prophet for Pyotr.
