it’s funny how the only logical explanation for the angel making clary forget the shadow world and her rune making abilities (an ability that they gave her) is that she became too powerful.

she creates sunlight and brings people back from the dead, she creates a rune that unites shadowhunters and downworlders, something that according to raziel shouldn’t be (“uniting shadowhunters with demonic blood, that was the last straw”).

the angel resists but she can do it anyway, she doesn’t need his blessing, she goes on and creates what she wants with her sheer force of will. and to him that has never happened before in the hundreds of years that shadowhunters have existed, so he forbids her from doing it. but then she does it again.

the last rune she draws is a rune that gives her wings. the only beings we’ve seen with wings were angels themselves, lilith in her natural form and jonathan. the seelie queen described jonathan’s transformation as “the birth of a god”.

jonathan grows wings once he’s free of clary’s bond, he says that the bond with her was holding him back, meaning that she was powerful enough to stop this transformation that came from, i’m assuming, him being injected with demon blood (belonging to the queen of edom), him repeatedly being burned and living in hell for his entire life, him being raised from the dead in a ritual based on blood of the possessed by his demon queen mother. clary’s sheer presence through a rune was enough to stop the transformation to a god, catalyzed by the queen of edom.

and then she easily grows wings herself to kill that “god”. we see light exuding her. clary doesn’t seem fazed by this at all. somehow she knows she can easily change form with a simple rune, she doesn’t seem to force it. it just happens naturally. because the power of the runes are part of her. her ability gives her unlimited possibilities. we can’t see any resistance from the angel anymore, he knows what he has to do. and clary knows what will happen to her as well. and she mourns. and she loses.

in the last scene of 3x22 she’s starting to remember. the camera zooms out and we see the light of the angel. is this the angel forgiving her? giving her her memories back? or is this the angel seeing clary disobeying his will once again, this time without being given anything. is this clary being powerful enough to defy the angel, the creator of her kind, once again?

if we add all of these things together we come to one conclusion: clary fray is maybe the most powerful being in the shadow world. and the angel is afraid because if clary has that much power she can change all of the shadow world if she wants to. she could destroy it or she could save it. she could do anything. even take down the angels themselves. she wished for him to bring someone back to life before and the second time she did it herself. and now she can unite (the powers) of the angel and the demon blooded? clary fray’s power makes raziel redundant, so she had to go. clary breaking through the barrier after a year only means one thing:

clary fray is a god.
