rewatched interstellar tonight and. humanity is saved not because we allow ourselves to be emotionally distant and rational and logical and care for the greater good, humanity is saved because of love. because one guy loved his daughter enough to communicate with her over space and time and she loved him enough to understand. the idea that there is a future humanity out there that is looking back at us and saying I love you. I love you enough to bend a dimension you do not yet understand to save you. Everything is about love.

Connecting some more dots—
We had some more revelations about Tim’s past last night, and the one that stuck out to me the most directly relates to this post that has made its rounds a few times.
While we still don’t know for sure why Tim chose to be a training officer, we now have an answer to why he was content to never rise in the ranks. Why he needed a push to go for sergeant.
Because the last time he had career ambitions, it got his men killed. And killed in a horrifying way that left him with deep seated trauma.
Eric truly killed the scene where Tim explained it all to Angela, but it’s still hard to grasp the enormity of what happened. Putting some context behind it— When Tim first mentioned the airstrike last week, it immediately reminded me of the Tarnak Farm incident— Very early on in the war in Afghanistan, a US warplane mistook a group of Canadian soldiers completing a training exercise for enemy soldiers and dropped a 500lb bomb on them. 4 men were killed and 8 were seriously wounded. I was literally a child when this happened, but I still remember it because the men who died were stationed out of the closest Canadian Forces base to where I lived. It was huge. It also wasn’t an unprecedented incident in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
The airstrike that Tim described was likely even bigger considering it leveled a building. He had to find his comrades’ remains. He probably had to notify their families.
So for at least 12 years after that, Tim punished himself. He didn’t put himself in a leadership position. He settled in his career and his relationships. By the time Lucy entered his life, he didn’t do things that made him happy.
But then with Lucy’s help he started to allow himself to move on. He became a sergeant— even moved up to a high ranking, authoritative position in Metro. He finally allowed himself to be in a relationship where he was truly loved, and his needs were being met.
And then everything came roaring back to the surface. I think the most striking thing, and what led to the break up, is that he did the exact same thing. He broke his oath and lied to leadership to save his career (I know he truly did it to save Lucy and Angela and Greer’s careers. He probably would have fallen on the sword if no one else would have been affected. But I’m not sure Tim can fully see that yet.)
He thought he was doing better. He thought he’d become a better person. But then he lied again, and he’s right back to square one.
Of course he’s spiralling and self destructing and punishing himself again. That’s what Tim does. And it makes sense for his story.
This doesn’t spell the end for Chenford. They just need to find their way back to each other and that’s going to be a process. As Eric mentioned in an interview, that means Tim needs therapy. He needs to pull apart his actions and see why he’s blowing up his life. This isn’t on Lucy to fix. Tim needs to improve himself before he’s in a place where he’s able to accept love again.

re-reading my own fic because the author has exactly my taste in tropes, ships the same ships in the right way, and also shares my sense of humour. what a find, what a revelation. i hope they write more of this sort of thing.

thank youu for the tag @brekker-by-brekkerr this was sm fun!
Driving down the interstate
I can see you standing, honey
Praise cool, I'm sorry, but there's no can do
Lights are turned off
Young blood thinks there's always tomorrow
You were alone, left out in the cold
We played grown up
कैसी तेरी ख़ुदग़र्ज़ी, ना धूप, ना छाँव
Honestly, I didn't think I'd end up here this time
Home alone, trying not ot eat
no pressure tagging: open tag yall im too lazy
Put your Spotify on shuffle and write down the first lyric of the first ten songs that come on, post the poem that results
Thanks for the tag @rudikawhy, this is so cool!
I am not the only traveler
I can see you standing, honey
Just a small town girl
Things haven't been quite the same
Maybe it's the way you say my name
Weep for yourself, my man
Kiss me hard before you go
I walk a lonely road
I want you by my side
Not even they can stop me now
No pressure tagging @brekker-by-brekkerr, @ragazzadellearance, @redvanillabee, @accidental-spice, @bi-byes-blog and @aintinacage!

True love can break any curse, and so can you, because that's what you're made of. You are the Savior because you were born of their love, and they're in love today because you brought them together. You can overcome these visions. You can overcome anything.
