one thing I wasn't expecting from kaze to ki no uta is how often Auguste Beau is characterised by his inability to consummate his horrible, horrible desires.

given my one recurring issue with 70s shoujo (homosexual desire is perfect, but it can only be actually consummated via rape. recurring issue in narratives with female authors and majority female audience: I must be compelled to do that which I want to do so I can pass off my desires as someone else's and thereby avoid societal punishment)

it's weirdly compelling to have as a villain a sadist who frequently refrains from actually touching his captive boywife due to his own issues with affection and abuse (then plays this off as I'm just too gigabrained and decadent to need affection now if you'll excuse me I'll be crying alone in my ludicrously empty palatial room)
