okay i’m really curious about this all of a sudden for no discernible reason so please reblog this post and say in the tags:

1) whether or not you need glasses, and if so whether you’re near-sighted (myopia) or far-sighted (hyperopia)

2) whether or not you have an astigmatism, or any other similar condition that affects the eyeball itself

3) whether or not you have any conditions that affect the eye muscles, like nystagmus

and finally, the subject of my curiosity:

4) whether or not you can unfocus your eyes at will. i don’t mean crossing your eyes by trying to look at the bridge of your own nose/your glasses/etc., i mean intentionally affecting a non-responsive stare where your eyes stop tracking things and stare straight ahead/wherever their most neutral direction is

#1) yes and im nearsighted #2) not really sure sure but probably almost definitely yes #my eyesight is really bad and my glasses are really thick so #3) none that i know? of? #4) absolutely #sometimes i have a hard time focusing back in #its really hard to imagine not being able to do this tho? #do u know someone who cant unfocus and you’re trying to figure out whose in the minority?

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless

FOOD

Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food

grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread

different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.

some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet

Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

first aid kit

 a travel alarm clock or watch

 mylar emergency blanket

 a backpack is a must

 downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards

Nothing moves in winter.

Not even water, nor the slow but certain creep of growing things within the soil. No wings beat of birds or insects, no hearts beat there too.

The sun and sky are purgatory grey. My lips and hands are blue, for my blood’s stopped moving too.
