My OC's name is Lehi Jackson (I actually named him after my science teacher who was a member of the church lol). There's quite a lot about him, but I'll sum it up the best I can.
He was born in 1958 in Minnesota to two members and he's the middle child of five children. He grew up in a pretty strict and religious household. He was also somewhat a pyromaniac, but he tries to control it. He making fires through lighters and his own inventions. He was a smart man and loved science and robotics from a young age. He was a studious kid and, after serving his mission in Santiago, Chile, he attends BYU Provo.
His Freshman year was a struggle for him. Not academically, but for himself spiritually and sexually. Lehi's a gay guy and he kept that a secret from many people throughout his entire life. However, he found two guys in college who he was interested in and they were interested in him. They kept their secret as hushed as possible. But when these two guys started doing things Lehi just couldn't morally accept, he decided to leave this relationship and focus on academics above anything else. He graduated earlier than he expected and started getting to work. He was steadfast and passionate about machinery and managed to work as a freelancer.
A handful of years after college, he felt pretty lonely. Having grown up in a community where family is strongly encouraged, Lehi always wanted to have a family of his own. However, he didn't want to be with a guy because of his devotion to Mormonism, but he didn't want to be with a woman because he didn't want to use or manipulate anyone's feelings. Having always wanted a child, he decides to adopt an 8 year old girl from Chile since he served his mission there and still practices his Chilean Spanish.
Her name is Emma and he instantly fell in love with her. He treated her the best he could and tries to be the best father he could to her. He did spoil her a little and was a bit over protective, but he tried not to smother her either. Since she's from another country, he tries to find a community and people she could relate to. He also learned how to cook food from her heritage and spoke in Spanish with her often. He also spoke with her in English a lot too to make sure she was able to communicate well with her peers.
When Emma was 16 and out on a date, she and her date were murdered in 1988. This drove Lehi into a depression and a strong disdain for guns. For the next year, his grief and mourning turned into anxiety, paranoia, and cognitive disturbances. During this time, Lehi watched some politics and George HW Bush was just elected president. Knowing of Bush's pro-gun stances and the Stockton shooting, made something snap within Lehi. Out of rage and despair, he modified one of his flamethrowers and heads to the White House. He attempts to burn down the building and the president, but he only ends up burning himself alive on the White House lawn.
Now he's in a purgatory with other fictional political assassins and learning how to overcome his struggles and trauma.
Here's his face, but I'm still debating on whether or not I should give him the beard or not (there's also another version with a mustache, but I haven't made it digital yet lol)

Sorry if this was a lot, but I hope you like him <3
So this story emotionally destroyed me 💔
I love Lehi and the complexity of his story and also he looks very polite (for an attempted assassin)
Also I did get your correction, he was born 1954, not 1958! Good to know.
Is this part of a story you are planning on publishing? I would love to know more!
I hope everyone is having a great conference weekend!

FINALE!!!!!!
Apologies for the delay folks, I have been having A Week (tm) but here we are!!!!
Tumblr media
Character info under the cut
Joshua Graham, who briefly left our tournament, has returned for a last chance at the winning spot! A former Mormon Missionary, he is known as The Burned Man in local folk legends. His stubborn refusal to die after being cast into the Grand Canyon elevated him to mythical status, striking fear into the hearts of superstitious legionaries and members of tribes of Utah and neighboring states.
Quote: “ I have been baptized twice, once in water, once in flame. I will carry the fire of the holy spirit inside until I stand before my Lord for judgment.”
or will you vote for
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! This headcanon has made it all the way to the final round! Although not created by a Mormon, and not canonically Mormon, her novels were written by Shannon Hale, a beloved LDS author.
Doreen is an upbeat hero who has defeated some of Marvel's big bads -- including Doctor Doom and Thanos! She knows the benefits of teamwork, and almost always tries to help the bad guys find ways to stop their no-good ways (ie repent). Plus, with her winning streak it's easy to believe she's got the power of God on her side.

Semi Finals!!
After Kronk's hasty departure, all you lovely followers voted to bring Joshua back into the game!
Tumblr media
Character info under the cut
Joshua Graham (Canon) Joshua Graham, “The Burned Man,” appears as an NPC in the Honest Hearts DLC for Fallout: New Vegas. (said DLC is likely riddled with problems related to Native American representation) But Graham is a popular character, he is a legendary figure in the history of the Mormons, the Legion, and tribes of former northwestern United States. Born in New Canaan, Graham experienced both the lofty heights of power and the depths of despair, first as the military commander of the Legion under Edward Sallow, then as the fallen Burned Man and a prodigal son. His stubborn refusal to die after being cast into the Grand Canyon elevated him to mythical status, striking fear into the hearts of superstitious legionaries and members of tribes of Utah and neighboring states. He also said the following quotes: “I survived because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around me.” “ I have been baptized twice, once in water, once in flame. I will carry the fire of the holy spirit inside until I stand before my Lord for judgment.” Born and raised in New Canaan, a Mormon settlement in post-apocalypse Ogden, Utah. He served as a missionary to the Blackfoot tribe, co-founded a fascist replica of Rome, then realized the error of his ways after being set on fire and thrown off the Hoover Dam. He returned to New Canaan, found acceptance, rekindled his faith, and now seeks redemption and revenge against the legion he founded.
Lilo Pelekai (Headcanon) Since Lilo Pelekai’s parents died in a car crash, she’s been living under custody of her older sister Nani. She’s lonely and emotional and nothing seems to go her way, until she meets a mysterious, behaviorally-challenged ‘dog’ that isn’t all that he seems. Maybe this is kind of a stretch, but there’s a strong Mormon presence in like, Polynesia, Samoa, etc, and so it stands to reason there’d be a good amount of church members in Hawai’i. There was definitely a big, friendly ward when I got to visit Kaua’i! It also strikes me how strong Lilo and Nani’s conception of family is, ‘Ohana,’ and we know that’s a big tenet of our religion is eternal families. I imagine the issue of race in the church would make things a little rocky, for them, and being Mormon would definitely create an in for that stupid redhead girl to bully her. I imagine Nani would’ve gone a bit inactive in her teen years and then gravitated back to church with the death of her parents. Maybe I just like to think they have hope of seeing their parents again, y’know?

Semi-Finals!
Tumblr media
Character info under the cut
Doreen Green AKA Squirrel Girl (Headcanon) Doreen Green is a superhero with all the powers of a squirrel and a girl! She has fought some of the biggest bads in the Marvel universe (like Doctor Doom and Thanos) and won! She is able to communicate with squirrel and they help her in her crime fighting endeavors. It doesn't seem possible for her to lose. Doreen doesn't just beat up bad guys, she is dead set on helping them reform. Whenever she fights, she tries to talk to the villain about what's really bothering them, and help them find an alternate way to work out their issues. She seems to truly believe in the power of repentance and forgiveness. Plus, with her winning streak it's easy to believe she's got the power of God on her side
Brett Hand (Headcanon) Brett Hand is the co-team leader at Cognito, Inc., alongside Reagan Ridley. He was hired and microchipped by J.R. Scheimpough to help Reagan because of her intense anger issues and difficulties in social interactions. He is voiced by Clark Duke.” (From the Inside Job wiki) He is almost toxically optimistic and constantly desperate for validation and positive feedback. He currently works for the “Shadow Government,” but suffers from severe anxiety and worries he has no individual personality or even a favorite color. He is from a larger family (7 kids), has a constant smile on his face, his positivity is almost toxic, and is the “guy with Mormon energy” according to the character Myc.

Note
Since Kronk is disqualified and out of the running, you should have a bracket/round of the characters he beat to see who comes back and takes his place.
I'll make a poll about it

Character info from submissions under the cut
Kronk (Headcanon) Kronk is Yzma's assistant from the Emperor's New Groove, but is a kind and moral person. He's athletic, happy-go-lucky, and a boy scout. Kronk is a canonically Jewish man in ancient South America, which makes him very likely to be a Nephite. He is also a boy scout.
Jim Hawkins (Canon) He's a teen that thinks the Book of Mormon is a joke, gets a few lessons thrown at his head through life and death situations, and comes out on top of his testimony. His faith goes through phases of strength. By the end, he has an unbelievably strong testimony and gives that legacy to his family.

I was also worried about this and I'm truly sorry to anyone I've offended or made uncomfortable. I noted in the first poll that included Kronk that this was NOT inteded to erase his jewish canon identity, but rather more of an in-joke about Jewish people in pre-colonial america, and how that aligns with the story in the book of mormon.
Every time Kronk has won I have wondered if I should pull him from the running, but given the reaction this caused I think it's gone on long enough. I'm truly sorry.

Elder Calhoun (Canon) Elder Calhoun is a lovable and charming new missionary, fresh from the MTC. Geeky and lacks charisma, but won't let that stop him from doing his job. He is the only member of the church in his family. Started his mission mere months after getting baptized. Has considerably more faith than his companions

Group Four Round Four
Tumblr media
character info from submissions under the cut
Mumen Rider (Headcanon) Mumen Rider is a superhero, but objectively not a very good one: he’s stuck in Class C, the lowest ranking of heroes, probably because he doesn’t actually have any powers or combat training. But he’s got a stronger sense of justice and bravery then most Class S heroes, and no amount of getting himself hurt by going up against huge monsters or hardened criminals is going to change that. He knows he can’t do much, but he’s determined to give it his all no matter what. His super powers are a) biking and b) being nice. You CANNOT tell me he’s not an RM. Bet, he served in the Philippines.
Character descriptions from submissions under the cut
Melody (Headcanon) She's Soos's long distance girlfriend from Portland, Oregon. She's a cute ingenue with more childish interests that really relates to Soos and his interests. But she's also down to earth and watches out for kids, with the phrase that I always think of her saying is "Soos, these are children," when Soos said that Mabel and Dipper would protect her. She also says that she's been on lots of bad dates which echoes the culture of ysa dating culture.
