Majoras mask headcanon that the masks… dont actually do anything. Theyre just pieces of carved wood that Link finds/collects/makes on his adventure through Termina that he uses as “toys”. He’s a kid! He’s playing pretend! If he has to save the world again, the least he’s going to do is try and stay a child this time.

Plus, it’s easier to put himself in the shoes of someone else for some of the puzzles and whatnot. He can swim better when he pretends to be a zora! He can roll and hit harder when he pretends he’s a goron! When he wears the deku mask, it’s almost like he can float! Majora can’t be beaten by a kid, but Link can wear The Fierce Deity mask and fight because FD is a grown up!
