I am so thankful for the owner's of Knight Bridge Service - Norm and Mike, who invited me to become a mechanic for a day for my 38th monthly adventure. Now, my daddy might have taught me how to change a tire and oil up my vehicle, but nowadays, cars are WAAAAY more high-tech than the old clunkers I used to drive way back when in the olden days. Being a mechanic for a day, I discovered that I wasn’t necessarily any good at it. In fact, I got shwhacked in the head so many times…I might have seen a few stars here and there. I even got my fingers all dirty. On the flip side, I understood the concepts and the science behind combustion – not to mention all those crazy chemical reactions - something about being ‘book smart’ comes to mind right about now. Fast forward to today - I was at their shop and they helped me figure out my new van. It has all sorts of buttons and levers and crazy stuff under the hood. This is one of many reasons why they've been in business for almost 40 years - they are just plain AWESOME and FUNNY - which is why I keep coming back for more. In my mind's eye, I am an otherworldly creature in search of a story, a quest. And it just so happens that my faithful companion is an armoured polar bear of extreme size and speed. Unfortunately, he sometimes forgets things...like the time when I told him not to eat our travelling companions. That was a bit unfortunate. This game, Dungeons & Dragons, is for those who DARE to have an imagination. It's for those who can think outside the box - and likely smash the box to smithereens using either a crossbow, broad sword, or even a whispered word or two. It is a game where everything and anything is possible. If you can think it, it actually happens. You roll up your character, select a species, define your path, and the rest is up to you. I always swore that if I could find anyone to play with, I would jump at the opportunity. The statistics were against me - 99.9999% of my friends never played the game - and would never play in a million-gazillion years. It's just not for some people - and it's not exactly brought up in normal conversation. "Hi, my name's Patricia. I have two science degrees and I like cats. Do you play Dungeons and Dragons?" But, the stars were aligned and the stats were skewed, and next thing you know...I met a fellow who knew a fellow who offered me a seat in their campaign. And there I was, glorious beyond belief, swinging my sword and missing everyone as I stumbled about, tripping over a mouse. Sometimes things just don't happen the way you hope them to. This adventure I dedicate to my travelling companions that survived my polar bear: Matthew Christopher Seagle, Trina Forrest, Rees Haynes, Adam L, Gregory Milne, Natalie Bosco, Erik Donley. Thank you for taking me in and showing me how to play - even though I can't roll the dice worth crap. It was so much fun and I would love to play again. Also, check out their labour of love - Ogre Plays Games Monthly Adventure #84 - Dungeons & Dragons http://www.monthlyadventure.com/84-dungeons-dragons #monthlyadventure #monthlyadventures #patriciataylor #dungeonsanddragons #gamespeopleplay #vancouverisawesome #Vancouver #vancity #vancitybuzz #dnd #ogreplaysgames #ogre

My 100th Monthly Adventure COUNTDOWN!! I will be posting random adventures each day from over the last 99 months!

ADVENTURE #35 - DONATING MY BODY TO SCIENCE
My friend struggles with her lonely ongoing battle, maintaining what dignity she can muster with each day that passes. She does whatever she can to live a life that everyone else seems to take for granted. Like walking. Sleeping in a bed. Going to the washroom alone. Making a cup of tea just the way you like it.
Donating my body to help her was the least I could do.
Check out a story done on her ==>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97YRLEG6KTE

WELL, it's official...on my 100TH MONTHLY ADVENTURE I will be going on a road trip across Canada, visiting every single province, including the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Added to this, I'll be on a train crossing tundra over to the subarctic region of Churchill, MB, with polar bears and northern lights. Then there will be all the ferries - one over to Haida Gwaii, one from PEI to Nova Scotia, one from Prince Rupert down the inside passage to Vancouver Island where I will find MILE ZERO of the Trans-Canada Highway...and, of course, the last ferry to Vancouver. To make this journey completely awesome, I just bought a wonderful van that my father is turning into a camper with a kitchen at the back and sleeping/storage in the middle. Speaking of which, my dad will be joining me on this grand adventure! In addition to exploring this amazing country I call home, I hope to do talks across Canada at different schools, inspiring young minds to dream big and live life large. Because I am in the planning stages with everything, I am definitely open to all sorts of suggestions. If you have any ideas or thoughts, please pass them along. Also, I would do anything to find a way to Nunavut...so if anyone knows how I can get there on a budget, please let me know!! This IS my 100th monthly adventure. SO HAPPY. #monthlyadventure #patriciataylor #vancouver #vancity #crosscanada #canada #happy #inspire #family #sohappy #campervan #van #stealthcamping #milezero #transcanadahwy #yellowknife #yukon #novascotia #nunavut #pei #newbrunswick #manitoba #churchill #saskatchewan #alberta #quebec #ontario #newfoundland #britishcolumbia #northwestterritories #haidagwaii #canadian adventure #grandadventure (at Canada)

I spent part of Christmas Day in the hospital suffering from a tooth that died along with an abscess. My whole vacation was painful - I rarely ate or drank. And the drugs the doctor gave me at the hospital, knocked me out until two days later. The day after I came home to Vancouver, I got a root canal. And now, today, it's part one of two for getting a crown. $1500 later... #monthlyadventure #patriciataylor #vancouver #notanadventure #rootcanal #adifferentkindofacrown #vancity #granvillestationdental #ilooklikeadork (at Granville Station Dental)

Light bedtime reading - an 8 lb book that Julia Child said was a must in any kitchen. Because one of my ‘themes’ (aka resolutions) was to become adept in the culinary world, I figured this was a good place to start.
