Bisexuality in New Vegas works how theoretically it should work: you are into everyone, therefore you can use flirty options on everyone and can also wink at anyone like "you wouldn't hurt little ol me, would you?"
In real life, bisexuality is more like dividing by 0 and deactivates your ability to attract or be with anyone.

I love seeing hot takes on my dash about something I know nothing about. Like "yeah, you tell 'em how blorbo's decisions make complete sense and follow the overarching themes of the narrative. Get their asses. You're so right."

tgcf is like if xie lian was faced with the trolley problem every single day and every day he said "i'll choose a third option!" and that option was throwing himself in front of the trolley to stop it but instead it flips over and kills/maims everyone on both tracks and xie lian himself

Reminder that you can just not like things. You can even hate things. I'm so good at hating on things. Where did our time honored tradition of hating on shit for no reason go? And you can even not dislike something in particular but go "not into this."
I used to watch Pixar movies. Haven't seen one since like Toy Story 3. I'm sure all the ones they came out with since are pretty good. I have 0 interest in watching them.
I don't care if people hate my favorite characters. I'll be the first to say a character or property I love sucks absolute ass, or sucks ass in a specific regard.
I like Fallout. I like TGCF. I like Batman. I can tell you a thousand things that suck about them, to the point that you'll be CONVINCED Fallout/Mu Qing/Batman actually killed my whole family and bullied me in high school.
You don't have to make up ethical or moral or huge reasons to not like something. Song everyone loves gets on your nerves? Valid. Game that got every award pisses you off? Valid. Hair looks like shit? Valid. Puts you to sleep?
Don't even know WHY you don't like it?! VALID!

Did YOU read the article?
Just hate the show like a normal person! You didn't like it, so don't like it! You don't have to make up reasons why. I'll hate things if it's a color I don't like, if I don't like an actor's voice, whatever. No one is forcing you to like it. Just go "ehhh not for me."
There are plenty of things to dislike. Maybe you don't like it because of the gross giving-birth-to-monsters scene. Or because it's too gross ("like a pimple"). Maybe you felt like there should have been more reaction to the fact that Lucy was raped at the start! I think I saw 0 people saying any of this! No it's all about "I can't believe they [something that didn't happen]."
Like do you need them to spoil the show and tell you what the thesis and character arc is? Even though it's obvious? Really?
I don't particularly want to feed your Bethesda hate-boner because it's big enough as it is, but you should give the recent GQ interview with the creators of the Fallout show a read. They flat out admit they nuked Shady Sands because 'war never changes' and cuz they wanted a Mad Max-styled wasteland

oh wow what a fucking surprise, they took one look at an established world and said 'fuck that' because resetting progress and pretending humanity is inherently violent and evil always is easier than actually working with fallout's real themes and writing. who knew a show backed by bethesda would do the same thing bethesda's been doing to the ip for the last fifteen years

I need people to watch the show before they decide nuking Shady Sands makes the story about how it's impossible to make progress.
It says may be doomed. But the show is clearly showing that hope isn't wrong, that striving for better isn't wrong. Because that's literally what the characters are doing, especially by the end. Coop had given up hope and comforted himself with the idea that he has to be a piece of shit, that he had no choice, because that's what the wasteland/the state of things does to you, that's how you survive. That's why he get's so pissed off at Lucy.
But we see many characters going "no, I don't accept that." We see growth and signs of hope everywhere. You can be indoctrinated by the Brotherhood, but both squires will freely admit "yeah this is hypocritical and sucks."
You can have Vaults that are set up as heinous experiments and the people in them can rebel and decide "how about we don't do that." Even in the past, people are fighting against Vaultec
It's pretty obvious that the people who are monsters are the ones who keep fucking things up for everyone else.

None of us realized that AI is just replicating the experience of a low paid employee who doesn't know the answer and just wants to get you off the phone
while high last night i decided to bully the new facebook AI assistant by asking it to calculate how many words the beatles have ever written across their complete discography. the resulting interaction was so unexpectedly interesting to me that i just really want to share it here.
(full disclosure: while not high, i did try to do a little digging to verify whether meta's AI was trained in the same shitty way that the chatGPT AI was, i.e., through broad scraping of information without any regard for copyright or other intellectual property rights, and was modestly reassured that there are more licensing agreements in place between meta and IP sources. i do wonder just how heavily they're leaning on the 'fair use' provision of copyright law to justify some of what they're doing, but tl;dr it looks like they have learned from chatGPT's high profile mistakes and are trying not to replicate them.)
anyway, here's how it went:
Tumblr media
me: can you calculate the total number of words in every beatles song ever written?
meta AI: I can't calculate the total number of words in every Beatles song ever written, but I can tell you that there are 186 songs in total by the Beatles ¹. You can use an online lyrics website, such as Genius, MetroLyrics or AZLyrics, to count the words in each song and calculate the total number of words in every Beatles song ever written. [link to Bing search results included]
me: but i'm tired 😞
Tumblr media
meta AI: I understand! Counting the words in every Beatles song would be a massive task. It's estimated that the Beatles have written over 250,000 words in their songs. If you're feeling tired, you can always try breaking the task down into smaller chunks, like counting the words in one album at a time. Alternatively, you could try searching online for a pre-existing count or estimate. Some fans or researchers may have already done the work for you! Get some rest, and maybe tackle the task when you're feeling more energized!
me: what if i say please
meta AI: Please is a magic word!
Alright, I'll try to help you with that. However, please note that it's a complex task, and I might not be able to give you an exact count. But I can try to provide an estimate based on available data and sources.
According to various sources, including lyrics websites and Beatles fan communities, the estimated total word count for all Beatles songs is around 250,000 to 300,000 words.
Here's a rough breakdown:
- John Lennon wrote around 80,000 to 100,000 words
- Paul McCartney wrote around 80,000 to 100,000 words
- George Harrison wrote around 30,000 to 40,000 words
- Ringo Starr wrote around 1,000 to 2,000 words (he wrote fewer songs than the others)
Keep in mind that these are rough estimates and may not be entirely accurate. But I hope this gives you an idea of the total word count for all Beatles songs!
me: wow! thank you so much! [can't believe i thanked the AI here, but whatever, weed had the wheel ok]
meta AI: You're welcome! It was my pleasure to help. I hope you found the estimate helpful. The Beatles have an incredible legacy, and their music has brought joy to so many people around the world. If you have any more questions or need help with anything else, feel free to ask! And remember, "All you need is love..."
anyway, congratulations to me personally for politely bullying an AI to do more work than it initially claimed it was capable of doing. sometimes saying please will actually make the computer do the thing 👍

At this point we just need a quick check of who definitively isn't Taylor Brooke
Wait what did Freydis Moon do? :( I've read their books and really liked them, but I don't follow them anywhere online, so that last ask you got worried me
Freydis Moon has been exposed to be Taylor Barton, a white person from the state of Oregon, someone who had a history of faking their race, being racist, and general abusive behavior. You can read more here about this Taylor person here, and you can find an incredibly long thread here.
Freydis was a colleague of mine, and they took me under their wing when I entered the indie book scene. They presented themselves as a Latine, mystic, queer trans author — who was older than me, I should add — so I deeply admired them and confided in them. I don't think ABM would have ever gotten much attention if I hadn't received their guidance.
There had been some whispers that Freydis was really Taylor, but I'd seen Frey's seemingly darker-skinned hands and heard their real name, which was supposedly Daniela.
Two things I should say before the big reveal: Freydis briefly hired a publicist named Cordi, who was also an agent with their own agency, named The Lynne Agency. Cordi, very randomly, decided to leave the industry and left their clients, and Freydis, hanging. Someone else to mention is Saint Harlow, an author of gay, cannibal erotica. On twitter, Saint was known for peddling a lot of drama — sometimes, he was on the good side of things and sometimes the bad, but he tended to be a massive bully. Freydis allegedly comforted some of Saint's victims.
And the reveal:
Freydis is the race faker Taylor Barton. The evidence is substantial, but most notably, some of the files they shared with other authors, including me, had metadata with the names of Taylor Barton's other identities. I was able to check the files myself to confirm.
They were also Saint Harlow. Meaning Freydis was bullying people secretly on one account and comforting them on another. And the bullying was a lot more disgusting than you might think, but for the sake of the victim, I won't share details.
They were also the publicist/agent Cordi. Why did they pretend to be an agent at all? I'm not sure but they wasted a lot of authors' times, that's for sure. Were they just looking to plagiarize off manuscripts sent to them? Who knows. (A friend of mine who sent their manuscript to them fears so).
There were a lot of interactions between Taylor and I that are much much weirder in retrospect. They critiqued the industry use of #ownvoices, which I agreed about, but blew the issue out of proportion, like thinking #ownvoices gay-trans author book lists shouldn't exist because of potential outing, mlm books by mlm authors lists shouldn't exist because of potential outing, and that lists of books by people of color about people of color also shouldn't exist because... potential outing? Taylor was, to me, oddly sympathetic toward certain authors accused of racism and shot down my concerns of a certain book with what I felt to be pro-colonizer themes inconsistently — their response to racism seemed to depend on whether they already disliked a person or not.
I could say a lot more but as someone who spoke to Taylor in private at times, there were a lot of things I was unsure about even when I was on their side of things. To some people, apparently, Freydis had said they were part Mexican, but only ever told me they were Peruvian (they might've known I'd clock them as a faker). Regardless, when this all came to light, their response was shockingly dismissive.
This may be more info than you asked for but TLDR:
Freydis Moon faked their race and ethnicity, bullied and manipulated many readers and authors using various fake identities, took advantage of latine author resources, and so on.
