When Stef met 'Lena

One week later
Elena felt empty inside, the whole in her heart ached deeply. She regretted her decision, she kept thinking of all the what ifs. What if she did that, what if she did this. She couldn't stop thinking about it all. She couldn't stop thinking about how she regretted it with every bone in her body.
His voice echoed in her head “Okay, okay. I can completely understand how you feel and why you feel that way. So, I guess, have a nice day ahead Ms. Gilbert.” Elena shook her head trying to push away the memory.
She rubbed her temples, she was trying to get away from the haze she was in but to say the least that was not easy. She took a deep breath and positioned her computer chair around to get to work.
She started by looking through the files for the meeting with Mrs.Branson next week. She studied each one carefully until she found the exact one she needed. But the file didn't want to come out. She stood up from her chair reaching for the bottom of the files but just as she reached all the files came flying out and landed on top of her. Causing her to lose her balance. She landed on her back with a thud.
She groaned as she tried to sit up, that was until she heard a familiar calming and warm voice. Stef.
“Need some help?” Elena looked up to him, reaching his hand out. Elena layed there frozen from shock.
“Well?” He raised his eyebrow. “Oh uh yeah…Thank You.” She took his hand as he pulled her up.
"Is there anything else you need Ms.Gilbert?"
"Yes, actually I was wondering if we could talk?" Elena asked her eyes pleaded with him desperately.
"Sure, right this way Ms.Gilbert." Stefan wasn't what to make of this. He didn't know what to believe. But at the same time he couldn't help but feel hope break through his heart as he heard 'Lena utters those words. But he also wanted to protect his heart which is why he was exceedingly formal. Stefan moved to the side, pointing her towards the elevator.
They both moved in the elevator. They both simultaneously reach for the button but just as they both reach out they touch each others hands. They both look up at one another and stare deeply in each other's eyes. And then they both look down in embarrassment, both of they're cheeks turn rose red.
But then their eyes meet again, Elena's eyes showed sorrow, remorse, and most of all regret "I'm sorry." She whispered. Stefan eyes showed happiness, forgiveness, but most of all love. "Why are you sorry?"
"Because I rejected the only person I've ever loved because I was scared." A smile curved on his face as he stepped closer to her. Elena continued her rant "And I can't believe how incredibly stupid-" Stefan placed his pointer finger on her soft lips trying to vanquish her worries. He muttered this softly, "Shhh, it's okay 'Lena." He cupped her face, trying to comfort her.
"I forgive you it's okay." Her eyes lit up as Stefan confessed this. They both giggled at one another, "So does this mean I can kiss you now? You don't care right?"
"Oh you most definitely can. Who cares about what others will say!"
Elena wrapped her arm around Stefan and he cupped her face. "Good." Stefan smiled as he leaned in slowly and ever so carefully. When they're lips brushed it felt soft and warm. It felt perfect, wonderful, everything you could wish for. But it wasn't just what you wished for it also felt perfectly right. Like after all this time the right pieces finally found its missing piece.
The End

When Stef met 'Lena
< Previous > | Part Three | < next >
Tumblr media
“Now this looks perfect.” Caroline clapped her hands together, she felt proud of what Elena, and she had accomplished.
“Caroline, you do realize that you’re saying this for the fifth time, right?” asked Elena.
“I know, I know, I’m sorry. But this time’s for sure. This is exactly what we want. Would you mind going through the checklist for the fourth time?” said Caroline with a pretty please face that she knew Elena couldn’t resist.
Both of the most hard-working and dedicated employees of The Salvatore Industries worked day and night to bring this event into place. They loved the scene in front of them. A big hall specially booked for the ‘Salvatore Industries Annual Corporate Event’.
The hall was decorated with every shade of white flowers, with round tables arranged flawlessly in front of the main stage. It was the first time that Elena had a chance to organize this big of an event and it was crucial for her job. Caroline and she made a good team together, Caroline kept everything in check and Elena helped with new innovative ideas. The event was about to start in a couple of hours, and they were equally nervous as well as excited about it.
-
The moment of truth finally came, their esteemed guests started arriving and the duo greeted them with their sheer hospitality. For the important evening, Elena decided to wear a black dress that stopped right before her knees, it was a lacey bodycon dress, and her hair was tied in a fishtail braid, to compliment her outfit she wore a pair of black heels. Caroline on the other hand wore a golden slit bodycon dress with her hair side parted and a pair of black footwear to complete her outfit.
The nervousness was taken over by the emotion of excitement as they could the event falling into place, they both felt delighted at the sight in front of them. The Salvatore brothers finally made an appearance, both of them were dressed in a tuxedo. Sure, both of them looked equally handsome but Elena couldn’t take her eyes off the green-eyed Salvatore.
Stefan looked classy, elegant, sleek, and attractive in a way. Perhaps it was wrong on Elena’s part to think of her boss in that way, but the man was so fine that it was close to impossible to not have a good stare. While Elena was lost in her thoughts, she forgot that her Boss was approaching her, she abruptly turned her back towards him pretending to be busy, and she heard the man say,
“I am not used to scaring people away.”
Elena let out a sigh realizing that her act had been caught, she closed her eyes for a second and then turned towards Stefan. “People are uncomfortable around Salvatores in tuxes,” she replied with a subtle smile.
“Good evening, Mr. Salvatore,” she greeted her boss.
“Good evening, ‘Lena,” Stefan smiled at her.
All the guests arrived on time and were seated in their allotted seats, Damon and Stefan greeted the crowd which was followed by an award distribution ceremony conducted to appreciate the hard-working employees of The Salvatore Industries. After the award distribution, the stage was taken up by the band specially invited to grace the event.
The energy in the room was aesthetically pleasing. The dim lights with some live music in the background set the mood just right. All the employees and clients interacted with each other while enjoying their drinks and other delicacies served to them.
Elena had to use the restroom, so she proceeded toward the ladies’ room but was stopped by the familiar noises from the alley.
“Why don’t you understand Stefan? This is important for our company. And I don’t care if you are with me on this one or not. With or without you, I’m signing this deal anyway.”
“You know you cannot do that Damon. We equally own the company shares and you can’t do anything without my consent. And we cannot turn our back on one of the oldest and the most important clients just because they are having a hard time. If you take up that deal, it might jeopardize our existing relationship.”
“Well, sometimes Stefan it’s better to let go,” yelled Damon and walked back to the party. Meanwhile, Stefan just stood there in anguish. The relationship between the brothers has never been smooth but Stefan had hoped that one day it would change, but each time he has met nothing but disappointment.
Elena realized that she was eavesdropping, and she had the urge to go and comfort Stefan but then she decided against it and joined back the party.
She saw Caroline wave at her as she waited for her with two glasses of champagne. Elena waved back at her and faked a smile. She took one of the glasses from Caroline and took a sip from it. “Isn’t it a wonderful evening? Cheers to us for making this happen,” grinned Caroline.
“Yes, it sure is Caroline,” Elena smiled subtly.
Elena was still lost in her thoughts; she knew how important that client was to Stefan. They were Stefan’s first-ever clients, and she knew how loyal Stefan was toward each of his clients he couldn’t stand the thought of signing a deal behind their backs. Damon was certainly wrong in this situation, but she knew it wasn’t her place to say anything, after all, she was just a receptionist.
-
Elena took out her phone to check the time and her phone screen suggested 11:03 pm. Caroline and Elena had wrapped up the event and fortunately, everything went as planned. But Stefan didn’t make an appearance after greeting the crown earlier that evening. Elena wondered where he was and was genuinely worried about him.
“I guess it’s time to go,” said Caroline but didn’t hear a response from Elena, “Elena?” she repeated.
“Yes, Caroline. I’m listening.”
“Well then let’s get going, it’s pretty late.”
“You know what Caroline, I think I should do some last-minute checks, you can go. I’ll take a cab home,” Elena suggested.
“Are you sure?” asked Caroline.
“Yes Caroline, I am sure. Goodnight, and have a good weekend,” reassured Elena.
“Goodnight Elena.”
Elena decided to take a look around the hall hoping to find Stefan somewhere. She looked everywhere but the bar and thought, ' Maybe he left for home’. Her thoughts were interrupted by the voice of glass clanking against the floor. She realized that the noise came from the bar and decided to check it out.
To her surprise she found Stefan sitting on the floor…drunk. The surprise was not to find her boss there but to find him in such a miserable condition. Instinctively she decided to help him.
“Mr. Salvatore? Is everything all right? Let me call a cab for you.”
As Elena stood up to call a cab, she felt her hand being held by Stefan, he grabbed her hand and asked her, “Please sit with me Elena, will you?”
Elena knew that it was not the right thing to do, she could not repeat the same mistake as earlier. She did not want to live with the same regret yet again. But at the same time, she couldn’t deny him, not when he was drunk, miserable, and vulnerable. Elena decided to give her boss some company because it was her job to look after him. She sat beside him resting her back against the wall and placed her hand on Stefan’s shoulder to assure him that he wasn’t alone. Stefan gently held her hand and squeezed it once as a gesture to say, ‘Thank you’.
They both sat in silence, but this silence was not awkward at all. This silence was intimate and understanding. Elena was fighting with her feelings and finding the difference between professional courtesy and genuine care for someone. That someone was Stefan. She sure cared about him, she was Elena, and she cared about everyone, but she knew the way she cared about Stefan was…different.
“Come on Mr. Salvatore, let’s get you home. It’s almost midnight,” demanded Elena. She hated to demand her boss like that, but someone had to take charge as Stefan was acting like a stubborn little boy.
Elena helped Stefan to stand up on his feet, but it was difficult for him to maintain his balance, so Elena wrapped one of his arms around her shoulders and held him by his waist to make sure he didn’t trip. It wasn’t easy for her to carry him to the cab as he was taller and stronger than her, but somehow, she managed.
At first, she thought of leaving Stefan alone in the cab but something inside of her told her that it wasn’t right. She had to make sure that Stefan reached home safely so she accompanied him to his home.
They reached Stefan’s place. Stefan lived in a luxury apartment that gave a perfect view of the serene city lights from the living room. Everything was neat. Elena could see that Stefan was an organized person. But this wasn’t the time to appreciate the interiors of Stefan’s apartment, she had more important things to take care of.
Stefan directed Elena toward his bedroom, and she helped him walk to his bedroom. Gently Elena helped Stefan sit on his bed, “I’ll get some water for you, Mr. Salvatore.” Stefan simply nodded while rubbing his temples firmly.
When Elena came back with a glass of water in her hands, she just stood there at the doorframe to admire the sight in front of her, Stefan lay down on his bed and was almost asleep. He looked so innocent and calm. All Elena wanted to do was admire him with awe. She slowly walked inside the room and placed the glass of water on his nightstand.
“‘Lena?” she heard Stefan call her.
“Yes, Mr. Salvatore.” She leaned in closer to him and sat on the edge of his bed to hear him.
Stefan’s hand searched for Elena’s hand, as he felt her hands in his he held onto them tightly and looked deep into Elena’s eyes, “I wanted to say something to you for a while now ‘Lena, I think I love you.”
Elena’s mind went blank at those words, a part of her wished to disappear but a part of her wanted to cherish the moment. Who would not want to hear these words from such a fine man? So lovable and respectful. But Elena had to make decisions rationally. She had a job, and she could not risk losing it. ‘Maybe it’s just the drunk him speaking’ thought Elena to herself.
“I think you should get some sleep, Mr. Salvatore,” saying that Elena left his apartment and decided to have a talk with Stefan on Monday morning.
-
Elena reached her office earlier than usual on Monday morning, she was still in fix about last Friday night and hoped that Stefan only said those things because he was drunk. Elena was in a file room arranging some important files, she heard the door open and turned her attention in the direction of the door and found Stefan walking towards her.
“Um…morning Elena.”
“Good morning, Mr. Salvatore.” Elena turned her attention back to her work.
“Can we…talk?” asked Stefan.
“Yes, sure. What is it, Mr. Salvatore?”
“About how I confessed something to you, and you just left without acknowledging my feelings.”
Elena felt a lump forming in her throat. She thought that he wasn’t fully conscious when he said those words to her. But on the contrary, Stefan remembered everything. It scared her a little, she didn’t know how to react to this, she was blank, again.
“Elena? I’m talking to you?”
Elena tried to gather her thoughts and rip off the band-aid all at once.
“Yes, I’m listening, but there’s nothing to talk about Mr. Salvatore. You were drunk and I helped you. That’s it.” she replied.
“And thank you for taking care of me when I was not at my best. I am grateful for that ‘Lena. But I meant what I said and look I don’t expect an answer, but I want you to know that I was completely serious about what I said.”
Elena was at a loss for words, she didn’t know what to say, “I…don’t know how to react to that Mr. Salvatore. Our relationship is professional, and I do not wish to go against professional conduct and be involved with someone from work. I am sorry but I don’t have the same feelings for you as you do Mr. Salvatore.”
Stefan was not convinced by Elena’s words, he asked, “No that’s not it. I know you have felt it too Elena. There is some other reason…”
“I don’t…” Elena cut him off and Stefan raised his eyebrow in question.
“I don’t want people to think that I got this job because the boss fell for me, I know I earned this job, this position I hold right now. And I sure don’t want to lose this job, Mr. Salvatore. I am desperate and I can’t let anything come in the way of that. So, it will be my humble request to keep our relationship professional.”
Stefan’s face had a hint of disappointment and hurt. He expected a lot of different reactions on Elena’s part, but this was beyond expectation. He did not want to believe the words he heard, he still wanted to believe in his feelings, but it was also true that he did not have any option.
“Okay, okay. I can completely understand how you feel and why you feel that way. So, I guess, have a nice day ahead Ms. Gilbert.”
“You too Mr. Salvatore.”
With that, Stefan left the room and Elena just stood there in her spot, she was not the kind of person to hurt someone intentionally, she was compassionate and empathetic. But she knew this was the right thing to do, she knew it was an important decision.

“Here is the fifth coffee of the day for you Mr. Salvatore,” announced Elena as she entered Stefan’s office bringing him the coffee that he requested her to bring.
It was pretty late on a Friday night, and the clock suggested 9 p.m. Almost all the employees of The Salvatore Industries had wrapped up their work and left already but Stefan was still working late in his office which meant that Elena also had to stay up late.
Today has been a busy day for Stefan, he had three meetings with some of their most important clients and also had to review the company's new policies. Elena has been observing him the whole day, how he barely had time to get lunch, and has been surviving on caffeine all day.
“Thank you so much Elena, and are you calling me out for consuming coffee?”
“No, Mr. Salvatore, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just that you have barely eaten anything today and this much caffeine can be harmful for you. I think you should take a break and at least eat something.”
“I truly appreciate the concern ‘Lena but I can’t take a break, we have a deadline to meet for this new project and apparently as a boss, I have to go through everything in detail and find loopholes, if any,” said Stefan adding softness in his tone.
Elena nodded in acknowledgment and asked, “Can I help?”
“It’s a Friday night Elena, I wouldn’t want you to work overtime and waste a Friday night for something that’s my job. You should go home and relax. I will stay up late and get this done, but thank you so much for offering your help,” said Stefan flashing a grateful smile toward Elena.
“Well, taking care of your job is my job, Mr. Salvatore, so whether you like it or not, I am helping you and before continuing with work, I’ll grab something for us to eat from the café downstairs.”
Stefan walked closer to Elena and leaned himself against his table, “I thought I was the boss,” said Stefan sarcastically and added, “but honestly Elena you don’t have to go through all this trouble for me. I would understand if you wanted to go home.”
Elena placed her hands over Stefan’s in reassurance and said, “It’s okay Mr. Salvatore, I am more than happy to help,” saying that she left the office to get something for both of them to eat.
-
They both settled themselves on the couch inside Stefan’s office and kept the food on the coffee table. They had too much work to take a separate break for eating so they had to multitask and eat while working.
The silence spread through the office as both of them were busy working on their individual assigned tasks. Only the sound of scratching pens and ruffling papers was audible. The clock suggested 11.14 pm, and they were the only ones left in the office by that time. Elena was cross-checking a memo and once she was confident about it, she passed it over to her boss for him to glance at it.
Stefan sat beside Elena in his work suit with his messy locks hovering over his forehead, his brows knitted as he was focused on reading the memo given to him by Elena. The light coming from the lamp beside revealed his sharp jawline. His lips were murmuring the words written in the document while his eyes moved with concentration.
Elena caught herself staring at the sight in front of her. She soon snapped out of the bubble of thoughts forming inside her head realizing that the man she was staring at so irresistibly was her boss.
Stefan cleared his throat before he said, “Elena, this is perfect. Thank you.”
Elena simply smiled accepting his gratitude toward her and went back to proofreading another document.
“‘Lena?” called Stefan.
Elena hummed in response and turned her attention towards Stefan, “Yes, Mr. Salvatore?”
“Can I say something?” he asked her with a hint of calmness in his voice. Elena nodded with a subtle smile on her face.
“I meant it when I said that you don’t strike me as someone who would be a receptionist. Because of the kind of help you have provided me tonight, I’m pretty sure none of my other employees would have been able to accomplish that too in such a short time. I hope I am not overstepping but I think you should give your life another shot and do something that defines who you are. In my opinion, you can bring so much to the table instead of just coffee” he chuckled softly, “No but jokes apart, I mean it. You have so much more potential.”
Elena was startled to hear these words from her boss. Not many people have seen Elena or rather have known her to her full potential, she felt nice hearing those words from Stefan.
“Well, that honestly means a lot, Mr. Salvatore, and thank you for having so much faith in me, and I will surely take your advice into consideration and find something that truly defines me as I am,” she paused for a second and continued, “I got one question though…would I still retain my position as your receptionist if I go on and look for other options for myself?”
Stefan chuckled admiring Elena’s sense of humor, it was in a long time that he had felt this lively in someone else’s company, “Yes ‘Lena, you will always have a place here at The Salvatore Industries, you are a part of the family now.”
Elena giggled and both of them returned to their respective tasks.
It was almost midnight when Stefan was picking up the last file to check the girl sitting beside him stole his attention. He stopped for a while to admire the dedication with which Elena was working. Her hands were moving non-stop highlighting the key points, her eyes focused on analyzing the piece of information in front of her. When Stefan looked at her, he found serenity and a sense of calmness. Like the kind of sight that brings natural peace, and you can just stare at it as long as you want to, and it will never cease to bring calmness to you.
Elena was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her compassion, kind heart, and caring nature made her even more attractive. Stefan found it difficult to resist thinking about her in this way, despite knowing it was not appropriate. These feelings were sparked by Elena's recent arrival in his life, and he couldn't ignore them.
Stefan leaned in towards Elena without realizing it, and to his surprise, Elena leaned in closer too. They paused for a moment, making deep eye contact. Elena leaned in even further, and Stefan understood her hint. As they got closer, Elena closed her eyes. However, as their lips touched, Elena suddenly panicked and opened her eyes, realizing something.
Elena felt overwhelmed with regret and worry. She couldn't help but think about the consequences of her actions, especially how Mr. Salvatore would perceive her. She wished she had more control over herself and hadn't jeopardized their professional relationship. Without hesitation, she stood up and wished to return home as soon as possible.
“Um…I…” Elena felt short of words, “I think we are done with most of the work Mr. Salvatore. I will see you on Monday. Have a good night,” she said as she left the building in haste.
Stefan stood in silence, consumed by guilt for his actions. He blamed himself for making Elena uncomfortable. However, a part of him wished he had acted differently. He regretted letting go of Elena and wished he had held her hand, kissed her with passion and care, and expressed his true feelings. Now, all he could do was wonder what could have been if he hadn't let her go.

When Stef met 'Lena
| Part One | <next>
Tumblr media
Elena was laid off from her last job due to her boss unable to pay her any longer. Elena had been searching for a job ever since, and then she discovered The Salvatore Industries. They were hiring or looking for a receptionist. Just the job for her. They had been her savior, she desperately needed this job. Rent money doesn’t come from out of thin air.
Elena Gilbert is described by many as stubborn, hard working, kind, and gentle. From a young age she strived to at least try when attempting at something which she carried with her into adulthood. And according to Caroline Forbes that was exactly what Salvatore Industries needed. Heart, kindness, and the strive to work hard. And that was exactly the receptionist they needed. Not what most people expect right? A receptionist needed those qualities? Yes, at The Salvatore industries they wanted and needed good people, people who carried about what they were doing. And Elena Gilbert was the perfect candidate.
There was this musical ringing, the phone rang several times before Elena reached it. She picked the phone up and answered with “Hello?”
“Elena hi! I have wonderful news you got the job! Your first day is tomorrow please meet me at The Salvatore Industries near the front lobby. The address once again is 523 Mystic City Avenue. Can’t wait to see you then!” Caroline beamed and hung up the phone.
Elena felt relief wash over her and then dread. Elena rubbed her temples in exasperation “She didn’t tell me who my boss is? Oh well this is gonna be fun,” Elena tried calling Caroline back again to get some answers to her questions but to no avail she did not answer. She tried again and all she heard was that loud and weird beeping sound when you call someone and they’re on the phone with someone else. Elena was irritated but instead of focusing on the negative she goes and calls Bonnie.
Elena dialed Bonnie’s phone number 876-435-778. All you could hear was the ringing and how it paused and started to ring and pause once again until Bonnie picked up.
“Bonnie guess what!” Elena exclaims enthusiastically.
“You got the job!”
“Yes I did! I got the job!”
“That’s amazing Elena! I’m so proud of you!”
“Aw, thank you Bonbon.”
“You're welcome! Tell you what, how about I drop you off and it’ll save you the trouble of using more gas.”
“That sounds like a plan Bon, also apparently I start tomorrow.”
“That’s quick, but I can still drop you off, don't worry.”
“I should have known it wouldn’t be able to get rid of you that easily.” Elena teased.
“Hey!”
“Kidding.” Elena giggled and Bonnie laughed alongside her.
-
Bonnie and Elena finally arrived at The Salvatore Industries. Bonnie parked in the parking lot, “Here we are.” Elena looked at the building nervously. “Don’t worry, You’ll do fine!” Bonnie gushed. Elena grinned at Bonnie feeling confidence wash over her.
“Take a deep breath and keep your chin up.” Elena smiles softly and replies with “I will, don’t worry.” Bonnie smiles and says her goodbyes as she rides off leaving Elena by herself. Elena takes a few deep breaths, even though she already had been in the building it didn’t ease her nerves. But she tried to do what Bonnie wanted her to do. Keep her chin held high. She walked towards the building. Was it larger than the first time she saw it? No, but it felt larger.
‘It’s just my first day, what could possibly go wrong?’ “Ugh who am I kidding?” Elena lets out a sigh and walks in the building. The moment she steps in the building a man greets her. He’s tall, he has black hair, pale blue eyes alongside a pale complexion as well. He gives her a cold and hard look. She wonders ‘Is this my boss?’ ‘If he is, this is gonna be interesting to say the least…’
“l know what you're thinking, I’m not your boss.” Elena nods slowly but then looks even more confused,“Then who are? If you don’t mind me asking of course.” “I do mind actually!” Elena looks down in embarrassment. “I’m sorry sir, the women who interviewed me didn’t tell me who he was or anything like that. She said she would meet me here.” “Leave the poor girl alone, she didn’t know there’s no shame in that.” The woman she interviewed me a few days ago says, I believe her name was Caroline if I’m remembering correctly. She leans her head to look at Elena and replies with “Come with me, it’s time to meet Mr.Salvatore. And don’t worry it’s not your fault for not knowing it’s mine entirely for not telling you.”
Once they had moved to the elevator away from the man. Elena whispers “Thank You.” “For what?” Caroline asks, confused. “For saving me from him, he does not like me very much.” Caroline leans closer and says “He doesn’t like anyone.” Elena giggles and replies with “That makes sense.” Caroline smiles back at her. Just as Caroline pressed the button for floor 102 a man stopped the elevator before it closed. The man walked in and walked towards Caroline smiling gently at her. ‘He seems sweet and cute. Wait what if this is my boss? I can't think like that!’ Elena mentally scolded herself for thinking in that way’ ‘He had dark blonde hair, forest green eyes that had a romantic glint that shined brightly, and he had a soft smile that lit up the room. Oh my god, Elena! Stop thinking that he could be your boss once again!’ Elena thought to herself. He stood by Caroline and conversed in small talk with her “Good morning Caroline! I never did get the chance to ask you but how has the interviewing been going?”
“Well, Mr.Salvatore it's especially great since she’s standing right behind you.” Stefan whipped his head around to get a better look at Elena. His gaze softened when his eyes met her. He smiled at her, charmly. He reached his hand out, motioning for her to shake his hand. She gladly took his hand and shook it with just the right amount of firmness. When Stefan touched Elena’s hand he must have felt how gentle it was while when Elena touched him she must have felt how soft it was. They’re eyes never left one another, they were like in this haze of admiration. They both thought to themselves ‘You can’t think like that she’s/he your co-worker!’
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss…?”
“Miss. Gilbert, Elena Gilbert. And it’s a pleasure to meet you too Mr.Salvatore.” She smiled kindly at him and he smiled back with just as much warmth.
Caroline intervened and asked “So are you ready for the tour, Elena?”
Before Elena could respond Stefan answered “Why don’t I show her around, you already have done so much,” He grinned at her, “Well, Thank You Mr.Salvatore you're very considerate.” She smiled back at him.
The elevator dinged and Elena and Stefan moved out of the elevator. “Elena?” Caroline called, “Yes?”
“If you need anything, don't be afraid to let me know.” Caroline gushed sincerely, grinning brightly at Elena.
“I will Caroline Thank You,” She smiled back at Caroline with just as much sincerity. You could see it now, the start of a new and wonderfully blossomed friendship.
“Anytime.” Caroline pressed the first floor button and the elevator, leaving the pair alone.
Elena turned to Stefan “Where do we start?”
Stefan turned to look at her as he said “My office, your area, and a few other places as well.”
“Where’s my area?” Elena asked.
“In the lobby area, where you came in there’s the front desk and that’s where you’ll be working.” Elena nodded in understanding.
Stefan led her to his office area, “This is my area or my office area.” In the background of his office you could see his book shelves full of so many different types of books. And his desk was in the middle, it had this glossy look and it was a shade of dark brown. “Wow, it's beautiful.”
“Why Thank You. That’s very kind of you.” Elena smiled at the complement.
“Now, let me show you to the lobby area,” He smiled softly at her as he led her back to the elevator. They both stepped in and he pressed floor one.
“You know Elena-” Stefan started, turning to look over at Elena. “You don’t strike me as someone who would be a receptionist.”
Elena smiled softly to herself, she must have felt her cheeks blushing as she looked down, “Life got in the way and it was expensive, and I felt like I could do good becoming a receptionist even if it’s in a different way than I wanted to originally,”
“What did you want to be when you grew up, Mr.Salvatore?”
“Ironically enough at first I wanted to be a Doctor as well.”
Elena lifted her eyes from the elevator door back to his eyes,“Why didn’t you?” She inquired.
“This company needed me especially after my father died and I couldn’t look away. I had to help.” Elena smiled with genuine compassion as she praised “Mr. Salvatore you are truly a kind man and a compassionate one too. That was quite noble of you most wouldn’t do that.” Elena voiced gently, Stefan looked at her with his vibrant smile and gleaming green eyes and thoughtfully replied with “Thank You, Ms.Gilbert you truly have a kind soul and I am lucky to have someone like you here.”
“No, it's quite the opposite. I'm honored to be working here because I was laid off from my last job and I was worried I wouldn’t find one this time for rent, but luckily I did. In the way you all were my savior I couldn’t Thank You all enough.”
“I’m glad you will be working here especially since we need someone like you, someone who cares.” Stefan praised, passionately.
Elena smiles at the compliment,“Well, Thank You Mr.Salvatore you’ve been so welcoming and caring I can’t help but feel excited to start.”
“I’m pleased to hear that.” He said with humility. Stefan was quite grateful she was going to be working here, ‘I wish we could find more people like her kind and caring, I’m just thankful she is here,’ ‘I’m very grateful I got this job, I have a good feeling about this job,’ They both simultaneously smile to themselves wrapped up in their own thoughts that was until the elevator dinged and they were back at the first floor. Elena jerked a little, Stefan looked over at her worry spread across his face. “Are you alright?" He asked, with panic in his voice. He placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Sorry, I was too wrapped up in my thoughts.” Elena placed her hand on her chest, trying to regain her composure. He smiled at her researingly and she smiled back feeling a sense of warmth fill her chest.
He turned to look back at her as he led her to her desk. “Here we are Ms.Gilbert.”
“Thank You Mr.Salvatore for your help,” She replied politely.
“Anytime Ms.Gilbert let me know if you need anything at all.”
“I will, Thank You Mr.Salvatore.” Elena said, and Stefan walked away heading toward the elevator, planning to go back to his office. Elena watched as Stefan a sigh escaped her lips, she must have felt a tinge of blush come across her face as she turned away and started to focus on settling in her new desk area.
Just as she sat down someone came up to her, It was a woman. Elena asked, “How can I help you?”
The woman was timid but still spoke up “I-I was wondering if I could schedule a meeting with M-mr.Salvatore I’m one of his clients.” She said, shakily.
“Of course,” Elena looked at the calendar behind her and noticed July 7th was open for meetings. She grabbed a pen and wrote ‘Meeting with-’
“What’s your name ma’am?”
“My n-name is Alexia Branson.” Elena wrote her name on the calendar, “You're all set Ms.Branson, give us a call if you need anything.” She smiled warmly at the women and she thought to herself ‘I have a great feeling about this.’ She smiled to herself as she watched the lady leave and she went back to work.
