23 Oct - Tie Guan Yin Oolong F1
First time using this variety of oolong. And let's be honest, I 100% bought it because the name means iron goddess 😁
But it's also a really nice tea.

The iron goddess F1 was so nice I decided to have another go at bottling booch unflavoured - this time I diluted 10g of sugar in warm water and added that to help it carbonate.
For the other two I did:
Strawberry (200g) Rose (2 tbs) Cardamom (crushed seeds from 5 pods)
Passionfruit (200g) Vanilla (1tsp) - inspired by passionfruit vanilla slice, which is exactly what it says on the tin. Vanilla custard sandwiched in pastry and covered in passionfruit icing. In French we call it a mille feuille, but I've never seen it with passionfruit icing in France, so I think this might be an Aussie spin on the French dessert. Anyway it's a flavour combination that I really like - so why not try it in booch!

Unflavoured did not carbonate. At all. I gave it ages to eat up the sugar and turn it into bubbles, but it just didn't happen. So what I ended up with was a very tasty, but very sweet, very flat beverage. Still nice though.
Strawberry Rose Cardamom was okay - initially I wasn't sure if I liked it, but it kinda grew on me after a while.
Passionfruit Vanilla is gooooooood!! Cannot overstate how much I liked this one. So much so, that I kept it all to myself - no sharing this time!! 😁

9 Oct - Sencha Green Tea F1
The last few batches all fizzed up beautifully when I gave them a stir - but this one? Almost nothing. First time using sencha, so maybe the culture didn't like the new tea? 🤔
But a new SCOBY mat formed as usually, so I'm assuming the brew is still good, just not quite as bubbly as before.
Tumblr media
23 Oct - Flavoured
Strawberry (250g) Ginger (25g) Nutmeg (11g)
Cherry (200g) Beetroot (50g)
Lychee (250g) Grapefruit (55ml) Turmeric (20g)
25 Oct - Bottled
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Strawberry Ginger Nutmeg was not good. Maybe I used too much nutmeg, or those 3 flavours just don't combine well - but it was basically undrinkable.
It was crazy fizzy though! 😂 I used a lot less fruit than usual but it was still explosive. It's only been happening with my strawberry and raspberry batches, so I'm choosing to blame the fruit!
Absolutely loooove Cherry Bettroot! Think I've finally found the right ratio of fruit to beets (4:1). You can taste the beetroot, but it's not overpowering, and it just goes so well with cherry. Suuuuuper happy with this one.
Lychee Grapefruit Turmeric is a winner too - which surprised me. I threw them together because it happened to be what I had on hand, and I didn't really expect it to work, but it really does. (I love it when I have no plan - and it works out anyway!)
The money shot 😉

I saw this festive crochet thread at the thrift store and gravitated towards it immediately. I especially love the gold thread twisted through it. A little annoying to work with, but worth it for the effect. this poinsettia tree ornament pattern was a little frustrating too. Some of the instructions weren't as clear as they could be and at some points I was just jamming my hook in holes and praying. Doily esque projects with 3D elements often use some creative techniques and variations im not familiar with so a video would’ve been helpful. This would totally benefit from blocking and starching so I'll probably get around to that eventually. I really enjoy the challenge thread crochet poses and I like the instant gratification you get from smaller projects you can start and finish the same day.

If the difference between staying on Earth and leaving for the moon or Mars is that you won't get off-world kombucha, then scientists are working to assuage your fear.  Not only might some of the microbes that help ferment kombucha survive in harsh conditions outside Earth's atmosphere, but scientists also speculate the organisms could provide future space-dwellers on Mars or the moon with far more than a tasty beverage. These bacteria might help astronauts create the oxygen they need to breathe. "Due to their ability to produce oxygen and function as bio-factories, this biotechnology could significantly enhance future space missions and human space exploration efforts," Nicol Caplin, an astrobiologist at the European Space Agency (ESA), said in a statement.

27 Sept - Black Tea F1
Tumblr media
9 Oct - Flavoured
Lychee Lime Rose
Raspberry Orange Star Anise
Cherry Lemon Vanilla
11 Oct - Bottled
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lychee Lime Rose - I was expecting this one to blow my socks off, and it is nice, just not the wunder-combo I was anticipating. (I gave a bottle to a friend and she loooooves it, so maybe it's a personal taste thing).
Raspberry Orange Star Anise - yet another explosive raspberry brew, and this time I used a lot less fruit. There's just something about this batch of raspberries that makes my booch especially fizzy I guess. Flavour-wise it was nice enough. Not a favourite, but nice.
Cherry Lemon Vanilla - so gooooooood! Just yum, yum, yummy 😋 Definitely gonna be experimenting with vanilla some more.

16 Sept - White Tea F1
Fizzzzzy 🍾
Tumblr media
27 Sept - Flavoured
Lychee Lemon Cayenne
Mango Grapefruit Lavender
Pineapple Lime Rosemary
29 Sept - Bottled
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lychee Lemon Cayenne - verrrry nice, verrrry spicy! The chili tends to settle at the bottom, so that last sip really packs a punch!
Mango Grapefruit Lavender - I'm always a little worried that anything with lavender will end up tasting like my grandma's soap. It never does, but this one came close. There was just a brief moment, when I first tasted it, where I thought "whoops, I'm accidentally drinking handwash!" Which doesn't sound like much of a recommendation - but it really did grow on me.
Pineapple Lime Rosemary - soooooo good! Second attempt at this combo. This time I used a mortar and pestle to crush up the rosemary (instead of chopping it up) and holy moly! got a massive rosemary flavour! Super yummy with pineapple 😋
