The proudest I've been of an Enjolras portrait so far; the previous tradi ones didn't exactly hit the nail I was aiming my metaphorical hammer at. This one, however, is by far my favourite. I loosely took inspiration, once again, from Greek statues (Themis in particular, yall probably guessed why) for some of his features ;)

Mère et fille

A very self-indulgent embrace... after re-reading some passages from the book as well as listening to "J'avais rêvé" (I Dreamed a Dream) a few times (and letting out a few tears), I needed to sketch down this glimpse of another, fairer, world.

Believe it or not, that wasn't done on purpose. The goal of the drawing itself was to show diversity when it came to one character and how its various interpretations could be valid and interesting in their own right, although different. Realism not being my strong suit, I wasn't especially proud of the results in general (Crowe not really looking like himself, for instance).

I apologise if any of this looked like erasure in any way, and since actions speak louder than words, I redrew Lewis!Javert. I hope I did him justice.

Their name is Javert. Do not forget it, folks.

Which is also the perfect occasion for me to give all of you a big THANK YOU. I had never posted Les Misérables content before, well, a week or so ago, and the feedback is so heartwarming already..! It really motivates me to draw more, both in a way to quench my buzzing hyperfixation, as well as to pay tribute to such a wonderful work of literature and the people who still enjoy it today. After posting my latest fanart, I thought it would be fitting to actually come up with an official Valjean design of my own. I now realise I might have been influenced to some extent by Lino Ventura's Valjean, I don't know for sure...

Saw the 1982 French adaptation of Les Misérables today. The parallel between the very first and very last scenes made me choke.

À Toulon ... (In Toulon...)

"Vous êtes libre." (You are free.)

"Maintenant, vous êtes libre." (Now, you are free.)

... dans les limbes. (...in limbo.)

So obviously it inspired me to draw another little something heavily based on that. I however chose to draw the characters the way I envision them (do note that the Valjean design will probably change, as I did not think it through too much yet!) instead of the actors themselves.

And honestly, it had been a while since the last time I was so productive in terms or drawing...!

Il sourit d'un sourire qui était tout ce qu'on peut voir au monde de plus dédaigneux, de plus énergique et de plus résolu, et répondit avec une gravité hautaine :

— Je vois ce que c'est ... Eh bien oui !

— Vous êtes mouchard ?

— Je suis agent de l'autorité.

— Vous vous appelez ?

— Javert.»
