“Well, then, please enlighten me about these fish farms.” he tossed back, hardly anything but pleased by her tone. Just because she had specialized species that had their own unique attractions didn’t mean she was any better than him. He didn’t get to interact with his Suchomimus too often as they were kept in the plains that housed the Cretaceous Cruise and it was difficult to have any personal interactions with all of them.
Douglas snorted the smallest bit at her final comment, throwing his hands up in mock surrender. “Oh, pardon me, Ma’am. I suppose your two creatures out number the five Suchomimus under my care as well as the three Baryonyx that are lacking proper care from their caretaker. Oh, wait..”
“Cleo hunts for her own food, thank you. That’s why her lake is stocked with live fish.” At his blunt response and use of the title “Ms”, Anna had half a mind to correct him and say “Dr.”, but she kept her mouth shut on that.
“There are plenty of fish farms that will give quality fish for a low price. You just have to know where to look.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “I have to feed more than Cleo. Need I remind you that I also care for an Irritator?”

Whether it was from someone he knew or from Ms. Dearing herself, Douglas had never been a huge fan of being told what to do. Frowning the smallest bit as he looked over at his fellow Spinosauridae specialist, Douglas had anything but a pleasant look on his features.
“I am well aware of that fact, Ms. Bledsoe.” he stated rather bluntly. “I have many mouths to feed and, unlike your Cleopatra, my girls are not kept in a single paddock and can’t simply have food dumped at their feet. I have been working on getting my girls the food they need, but it is difficult to repopulate their river on a frequent basis when I’m given only a limited budget.”

The lack of touch from the other brought about a swirl of emotions that conflicted with one another. It brought a sense of relief to not have this stranger, this foreign female touching him, but at the same time the lack of such physical contact, something he had been lacking since he had been a hatchling and something he almost longed for. The creature didn’t now what to think of that, his growl softening but growing unsteady all at once. Douglas wanted the attention and care of another...but not like this, not in his most vulnerable time.
Wheezing, his eyes closed for a time, the great reptile seeming to be sleeping at that point, his chest slowly rising and falling as the female ran her hand over his hide. It felt feather light, almost as if her fingers weren’t even there, but it felt wonderful all the same. A deep rumble returned to his throat, but it wasn’t harsh or aggressive, it was almost as if he was purring. That quickly faltered, though, at the sharp prick in his tail.
Orange eyes shot open, a brief moment of panic shooting through his being. He didn’t know what had ‘bit’ him, but he couldn’t see it and that alone was a threat in his mind. With a breathy roar, Douglas scrambled onto his feet, his moment of comfort vanishing as he hissed, ready to defend himself from the stinging ‘creature’ that hung onto his tail. The rush of adrenaline wasn’t enough to clear away the sedatives, though, his form trembling as he fought against the numbing, dulling injection before his legs gave out the Spinosauridae slumping back onto the ground with a strangled snarl.
Her hand drew back slightly when he swung his head towards her once more, looking the male in the eye as she kept her hand hovering over his side. She wasn’t about to leave him. Not until she had what she needed for adequate lab tests. Turning her head slightly so that she was still looking at him, she called over her shoulder to one of the dinosaur’s caretakers. “Get me a stool sample if you can. Fresh, please.” It wasn’t a pleasant task, but it would keep them busy while she worked. The fewer people to unnerve the animal, the better.
Anissa turned her attention back to him, lightly placing her hand on his skin once more. “I’m sorry you don’t feel well,” she whispered softly, stroking his scales. “But you have to let me help you, alright?” The veterinarian stood and pulled a pair of syringes from the pocket of her lab coat along with a few blood collection tubes. Moving to the dinosaur’s tail, she uncapped one of the syringes and ran her free hand down the underside of his tail. Veins were always difficult to find in reptiles and amphibians, but she had done this enough times that it hardly took much thought.
She pressed down to hold off his ventral coccygeal vein and inserted the syringe, pulling back and redirecting until she saw a familiar flash of blood in the hub of the needle. Her gaze flicked briefly towards the dinosaur’s head, watching his reaction before returning to her work. She’d need more blood than one syringe full, but thankfully his was flowing well. “Hold still, okay?”

“Well, it’s not too hard to notice.” he admitted. “Your scent isn’t like any of the other humans around here...but you don’t smell like any of the other hybrids around the lab, either.”

Douglas wasn’t too used to this sort of interaction. His caretakers always handled him from a distance, always interacted with him in indirect ways, so to have someone actually come to him was practically foreign to him. No one had ever come this close to him since he had been a hatchling. Each breath came out as a snort, a growl rumbling steadily in his chest despite the fact that he remained unmoving. He didn’t have the strength to do so at that point.
The touch to his hide, though, brought about a startled flinch from the Spinosauridae, his orange eyes contracting the smallest bit in a sense of fear. What was she going to do to him? He was suffering enough as it was, so why was this female trying to make things worse? Douglas didn’t understand.
With a wail sounding more akin to a moan, Douglas lightly swung his head around, his jaws parting in an attempt to frighten her away. He did not appreciate this prodding from her, although her could do very little to stop her, his head lazily slumping back down beside her as the sedatives that clogged his mind kept the poor thing grounded.
☤ — “Shh, shh… I’m not going to hurt you.”
Anissa watched the dinosaur carefully, waiting until he returned his head to the ground before reaching out to touch his flank. She checked his skin for parasites and to make sure he was hydrated properly. The veterinarian crouched down, boots sinking into the marshy ground and lab coat dragging in the mud. Removing her stethoscope from her bag, she placed it against the reptile’s chest to check his lungs and heart. He was weak, panicked, but his vitals were normal. It might be an infection… She needed to do more tests.

Breath labored and unsteady, Douglas hissed pitifully at the approaching female, his claws lightly digging into the soft earth beneath him in an attempt to climb onto his feet, but it was to no avail. With the affliction that held him in its grasp and the sedatives injected into him to keep him from harming anyone, he could hardly stand to even keep his eyes open.

The voice of the female never reached Douglas’ ears, the glass far too thick for him to hear anything that occurred on the opposite side. But, it wouldn’t have meant anything to him regardless. He was raised by Man and was in constant interaction with them, but he knew nothing of their words, of their foreign calls and sounds. It was nothing but noise to him.
Shifting lightly on his heavy, clawed feet, Douglas’ pale orange eyes remained fixated on the female, a soft burst of air leaving him. He knew nothing of her scent or her tone, but there was a unique aura about her that he could sense even through the number of defenses that stood between them. With a moment of hesitation, the large blue skinned spinosauridae gradually slipped out from where he hid, the tree branches brushing over his hide as his eyes stared up at her.

She wasn’t sure if she was in the majority or the minority, but she certainly didn’t think bringing back dinosaurs was a good idea. Messing with nature like that… It had repercussions. She wasn’t sure if the repercussions would be as bad as if one had gone back in time and fucked things up, though. She hoped not. She also hoped she wasn’t in this dimension when it went down. Or at the very least, that her magic would help her keep herself, her family, and innocent bystanders safe.
She looked for the dinosaur. She could sense where it was, but she couldn’t see it. She also wasn’t sure if the glass would hold if it decided it wanted to try to eat her. She just had to hope that it wouldn’t. And that if it did, her magic could protect her or get her out of there. She felt bad for it, though.
“They bring you back,” she murmured mostly to herself, “Only to stick you in a cage. Humanity is cruel.”

Many of his caretakers and handlers knew well of Douglas’ potential. He could snap them up with a single bite or tear them to shreds with the simplest swipe of his clawed appendage. It was why they always dealt with him up high and out of reach and why none of them ever dared to try ‘talking’ to him. Although they cared for him properly, they all feared him.
So, to have this male approach the hard metal door of his paddock all but startled the Suchomimus. His growl grew in volume, the faintest of hisses sliding through his throat as he kept himself out of sight. Why was this male here? What did it want from him? He didn’t know the answers to any of these and that made the large spinosauridae anxious.
Owen had been going to the opposite end of the park to retrieve something that he needed for the raptors (apparently someone had forgotten to restock the mice for the Velocirator paddock), but stopped when he heard a low growl coming from the paddock he was walking past. Curious, he wandered over to it, attempting to look in. He didn’t know what they kept in this paddock (and he didn’t bother to look at the sign at the moment) as he rarely came all the way over to this side of the park. But whatever it was, it sounded dangerous, so Owen was pretty interested.
Hitting his tongue against his teeth to make a sort of chirping noise, Owen tried to draw the dinosaur out of its hiding with it, knowing that it had to be somewhere in there. “Come on buddy, I’m not gonna hurt ya,” he added quietly, continuing to make the small chirping noise.

This was rather curious. A human was there...He could see them standing behind the glass that stood at the end of his paddock, but...why? The soft-skinned creatures hardly ever visited him now, and they did not stay for this long. They would come to see him, pass by then continue on. So, why was this one staying? Snorting heavily, Douglas shifted as silently as he could in his cover of trees, watching them curiously.
