Monster High Creature from the Black Lagoon!!

Rising from the depths to serve lurks, the Creature of the Black Lagoon is finally here! She’s retailed at $65 and available for Fang Club Thursday, April 25th and for everyone on Friday, April 26th!

My Opinions:

I’m a little bias as a marine biology kid, but I think she looks great! At first I wasn’t sure about the bathing/body suit but it suits her perfectly! The head sculpt and fins are everything! I also wasn’t sure about all the green but for some reason the picture with the white background really helped me see the concept - it’s a gore-geous color! Once again, a little bias because my favorite colors are those soft blues and greens 😅 the box looks pretty great too! The only thing I kind of find weird is the harpoon heel - like there isn’t really a shoe?? Why does she have a black harpoon sticking out of her heel??

@keepingmyselfundead Oh I know! When I first saw her I knew SOMETHING was different and then I looked up some old face sculpts and:

I own neither of these dolls but I had always loved and admired her design and look at that difference!

- softer eyes

- softer eyebrow

- softer jawline

- softer scar indent??

Like everything is just SOFTER and ion like it 😭 give our girl her fierce looks back!

I’m so glad people are liking and agreeing with my facial redesign! I was originally going to just leave it at that, since I’ve seen a few people mention to think about budget under other redesigns but I’m so tempted to do a full one now! To be honest, even with just the face change it makes me like the outfit and doll a lot more but there’s still other changes I would make if I could!

I know what you mean! A lot of people don’t like them that much (from what I’ve seen) but I fell in love with them. I was lucky enough to get Reel Drama Lagoona early through a bid on EBay for $55 (not including shipping and she was out of box and didn’t come with her small poster) but I’ve been looking lately for the others. I agree, I’ve been seeing them EXTREMELY overpriced, even for out of box. I recommend looking for bids on EBay like I did or Mercari which will have a lot of listings. They’re still slightly overpriced, but every now and then you can find some that are around $60-80. They go fast, so you’ll have to keep an eye on it!

As a broke college student as well who just started recollecting, (haven’t had any since I was a kid - in fact Reel Drama Lagoona was the first one that made me miss my dolls and want to get them again) I understand your frustrations! I now have 8 dolls and I still debate selling some because I feel like I need to save up instead or that they’re too childish for my family to understand on why I keep them. I do have an on-campus job, but it doesn’t pay enough for me to constantly get any that I really want, so I’ve mainly just been looking around at them.

I saw your post and thought I’d share some of the things I keep an eye out for! I hope this helps, whether with the doll searching or just having someone to empathize with!

Rant Time

I desperately want Reel Drama Lagoona, but of course, no one's selling her for a reasonable price. I'm not paying $200 for a doll that originally sold for $25. Or $5,799 like one Walmart listing is asking for (honestly, though, that one is more funny than aggravating to me). Some people have the gall to only sell pieces of her clothing, too.

(And of course someone on Reddit managed to find her for ten dollars, because why the heck not? I'm happy for them, but please, rub some more salt into the wound, Universe.)

I almost wish I were impulsive enough to just cave in and go for one of those stupid, expensive listings, because then, I'd have her. Almost. But I'm a jobless college student; I need the money for things like food and school supplies. I know I'd be miserable if I came up short when it mattered most. And I don't want to give those people the satisfaction of taking my money. Lagoona is my favorite character, and I adore the silent film aesthetic, but my love for those things is not quite as great as my hatred for price gougers.

Outta Fright Operetta Redesign!

With the new Skullector coming out I wanted to make a small redesign! Overall, I think she looks okay! I just didn’t like how they changed her face and eye shapes. I don’t think I’ll be getting her, but she’s available April 12th for $50!

The first shoe and color won the shoe poll!! Now we’re onto our last one: Accessories!

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do it like Rochelle’s vote with 3 accessories in each set or like Jinafire where you could vote 1 v 1, so I added it to the poll so y’all could decide!

I knew I at least wanted to incorporate more cogs and some bows, so each choice has one but in different placements and sizes! I also didn’t want to go too “all out” in the accessories since the dress is already pretty busy

Honey Swamp for an Art Challenge!!

There was an art challenge on instagram called “Immortally Yours” with the theme of nouveau Victorian attire! I thought I’d post it here and explain my thought process!

I chose Honey Swamp because I absolutely adore her design and she was the first character to come to mind with this! She’s the film-ogre-pher, so I wanted her to wear something subtle as she bounces around to get shots and videos! I also wanted her to have a little bit of inspiration from her home place and the bayous, so she turned some of the plants into fashion! I could’ve probably made the lily pad a bit darker, but there was a deadline! 😬 I also changed her baby hairs to be styled in a more uniform wave!

So here’s the final products (doll style), my style (traditional/digital), the concept sketch, and the collage I used for inspiration!

I’ve been going back-and-forth on getting her and it’s mainly because I’m graduating college in May and I’d have to send her to my parents’ house. While ultimately I feel they probably won’t care, I feel like I’ll be a little judged. They don’t know I’ve started collecting again (like from when I was a kid). 😅

She definitely looks worth the $90 and the voting was improved in my opinion! She’s available until February 23rd and you get your shipping date estimate after purchase! From what I’ve seen, most will be sent December 2024/January 2025!

🌊🌊 Niamh Cinn-Óir Descendant at Monster High!! 🌊🌊

Last semester, I had recently gotten into Irish Folklore/Myths, specifically the story of Niamh and Oisín. I don’t believe I’m Irish, so if I get anything wrong or this is weird, please let me know! I’ll immediately take her down! I just thought she’d be a cool concept for Monster High since it delves into other mythologies! I specifically made her as a G3 character, but she could be from other Gens too! Facts about her and their brief story are below:

Niamh Cinn-Óir can be depicted as the goddess of the sea, fate, death, and is the daughter of the King of the Land of Youth (Tír an nÓg). The most well-known story of her tells the tale of her venturing to Ireland across the Atlantic Ocean. This is where she came across Oisín and the Fianna tribe on the Irish shores. They both instantly fell in love and Niamh asked Oisín to come with her back to the Land of Youth to get married. He agreed and they lived there joyfully for three years, eventually having 2 sons and a daughter.

Oisín, however, grew homesick and wished to leave this realm to visit his family back in Ireland. Niamh begged him not to leave, but eventually let him by giving him her white horse to cross the water. She warned him that she wouldn’t be able to protect him outside of the magical realm if he stepped foot on the soil. When Oisín reached Ireland, he couldn’t find his tribe and found out from the locals that the Fianna Tribe left hundreds of years ago. He ended up finding out that 300 years had passed in Ireland during the time he lived in the Land of Youth.

Oisín ran into a group of Irishmen struggling to move a large rock and lent down from the horse to help them. Sadly, he fell off and touched the soil, immediately turning into a withered old man. He ended up passing a few days later on that very same Irish soil, never to see Niamh again on the human plane.

Notes on Doll:

Once again, if I got anything wrong or this is weird, please let me know and I’ll take her down! I just thought she’d be a cool addition to Monster High and she was more of a “passion project” than an OC! I hope you guys like her!

Mock Fang Vote: Vampire Heart Robecca Steam!!

Hey y’all! Sorry for another delay! As you know, I have a hard time designing shoes so I had my sister help for some! I wanted to also show you other variations I was thinking that led up to these two. I will add more detail to the chosen piece! I put another picture of Fang Vote Robecca, just in case you haven’t seen it yet!

I also wanted to remind y’all that we still have accessories to choose from, so please don’t get discouraged with the colors!

The first one is the one that my sister helped design! It’s a simplistic sneaker boot with a jumble of gears for heels and wiring for laces! She thought I was thinking too into it and that’s why I couldn’t create more 😅

The second one is the one I mainly designed! Another sort of simplistic shoe, but it’s heel-less with muffler accessories and bolts that go along the curves and lines.

I went home for winter break and forgot to bring my iPad 🫠 Here’s what the hair looks like and I did add a few things like a widow’s peak and some baby hairs (see photos below Robecca for the inspiration). I know I’m also missing a bow but I thought I’d save that for when we get onto accessories!

For the “Which Style?” Poll, combine them won! I realize I didn’t specify if it was for just the steampunk and Victorian style or including the Vampire Heart Draculaura, so I did all three!

Using Vampire Heart Draculaura’s most noticeable part, I kept the bottom half of the dress but changed it to gothic arches! The Victorian aspect is the poofy, layered, slightly asymmetrical top part of the dress (can you tell I don’t know much about fashion? Lol). Lastly, for the steampunk style, I kept the general colors I’ve seen used for it and added little gears to the corset. As we continue with the polls, I’ll clean up the dress a bit more and accessories will be added (don’t worry I’ll let y’all choose those too)!

I also included the outline in case anyone would like to use it as a “coloring page” to show off more designs! It also shows the arches even better lol. If you use it, please give me credit or tag me - I’d love to see what you guys come up with!

Mock Fang Vote: Vampire Heart Draculaura!!

I’ve had the idea to do a mock fang vote for a while and I thought now would be a good time! Finals are coming up for me, so I won’t be as active as usual. I wanted to do something both a little fun and interactive while also giving me time to study!

I know a lot of people absolutely LOVE this doll (I’m one of them, but I didn’t get her - I admired from afar) but people were also disappointed it wasn’t another ghoul. I saw most of the posts saying it should’ve been Robecca (since she held onto the relic, the Vampire’s Heart) and Elissabat (who is legit the vampire queen)!

My goal is to make my usual edits, but I want YOUR help to decide what happens! There will be many polls with some examples being hairstyle, accessories, and outfit types that will each show an update to the doll’s redesign!
