regular scheduled visit
Loneliness came to visit, as she does every now and then. I'm unsure of what she used to look like, but I know she's changed. She now takes the form of a kitten, nuzzling and purring at my feet. I pick her up and hold her close. She takes her spot on my shoulder.
As a queer person who doesn't feel like I belong in the family and society I was born into, and who has been struggling to build a community here in the west, where community doesn't seem to exist in the way I'm used to. I sometimes worry about what old age will look like for me, with no family or community in sight. It feels like I'm drowning with no clue how to get out of the water. That's the fear that tags along with loneliness, she used to be a lot stronger. Grief feels like the strong one now, which I'm very ok with. Mutual aid seems to be the key and figuring my way through it seems frustratingly long, but ultimately worth the pain.

visit from old friends
Grief and longing came to visit
Old friends, I know them well
Instead of blowing out the candles
and pretending no one was home
I bought fresh flowers for the room
and welcomed them with open arms
I sat in pious silence and listened to their stories
And as they bid farewell
they took my heaviness as an offering

My mother didn’t believe me when I said the reason her phone keeps displaying ads for dog car harnesses is because it eavesdrops on her spoken conversations.
“Watch this,” I said. “I want to buy a wetsuit. I need a wetsuit. Where can I get a wetsuit? Bring me a wetsuit. Wetsuit size small. Women’s wetsuits. Wetsuits for children. Wetsuits for dogs. Discount wetsuits. Hot single wetsuits in my area? Sexy wetsuits. Wetsuits for sale. Purchase me a wetsuit. We need to get a wetsuit. Spend money on a wetsuit! I want to get a wetsuit. Where did you get that wetsuit?”
Her phone is now advertising wetsuits.
