Considering the 3 Digimon you can choose, I wanted to have at least 2 different lines that reach different ultimate/mega level.

V-mon already has V-dramon's line outside of the dna evolution line.

For Hawkmon I was thinking Diatrymon or Birdramon (Leading to either Valdurmon or Houomon/Phoenixmon as alternative megas)

For Armadillomon however, I have absolutely no clue. Might make a post asking for suggestions.

What if Digimon was an action RPG?

Starting with character creation, it would be more limited than other rpgs, but there would certainly be a degree of customization when it comes to appearance. Aside from the possible physical changed, the player would also be given the opportunity to equip some accessories or maybe even clothing if its not a big headache to implement.

You play as one of 3 Digimon options:

V-mon, Hawkmon and Armadillomon

Each with their own initial play style. That might change depending on the digi-evolution picked.

The player can also select a starting item from a list that ranges from good consumables to have early on to key items you can also get later. For example:

Medium Hp Floppy Disk

Key to The Under Web

Anime based Digi-Egg(Courage, Love or Knowledge depending on the Digimon chosen)

Most digi-eggs are available but I fear going beyond the 2 armor digi-evolutions for each might be complicated.

The game would start with your character already in the Adult/Champion form of your choice.

If you choose V-mon, your options would be XV-mon, V-dramon or Flamedramon if your starting item was the digi-egg of courage.

The rookie/child stage would be reserved for safe zones.

DNA Digivolving will require you to complete the quests associated with the other "material" Digimon. For example: If you play as Aquilamon you would have to complete Tailmon/Gatomon's quest to dna digivolve with them. You may choose to have them only as allies that help you through the game. If you complete a quest that doesnt give you a dna digi-evolution you can still have the quest giver help you out with exploration or bosses.
