I absolutely adore the opening of Jane Eyre. (well, I DO love the entire book but.That's besides the point). We immediately open up with not only the weather being cold and the environment being described as unwelcoming and harsh (my beloved method of reflecting the characters emotions through the nature around them) but also Jane is understood at once to be a stiff and unhappy child.
