MONEY SAVING TIPS FOR THE HOME Times are tough! Money is tight for many people in this financial climate and many of us are searching for ways to save money. Among the easiest ways is to be more discerning. For a while now I've been trying different products and money saving ideas and found ways of doing things around the home and some extremely good products. I hope you save yourself at least a few pounds per month and try them out. Supermarket brands: I liked them and was, at first, reluctant to try these having bought brands that are named. I thought perhaps that supermarkets own brand products would prove to be economy - . One of the first things I tried was the biological washing liquid of Sainsbury and have used it ever since and at it good value. It makes my clothes clean! I also use their dishwasher tablets - again good price and having used them for over a year my dishwasher appears not to have suffered at all and now I can tell you that they work. I purchase'own brand' household cleaning products such as bleach, toilet cleaner, furniture polish and so forth and again I have no complaints. The only thing I continue to buy is liquid which lasts forever anyway. I estimate that I must have saved at least #100 within just a couple months. Hints and tips: I have stopped buying dishcloths and cut up old T shirts - bleach out any colour and they work just as well, if not better, than cloths bought specifically for the purpose. On chilly evenings when chores are finished and it's time to settle down, turn your flame and / or heat off or right down and use a rice bunch (instructions below), or warm water bottle. Put on your socks and a sweater and you'll stay warm AND save yourself money. Rice packs are easy and fantastic to make. Get yourself a bunch and make a small bag out of some cotton. Place the rice in the bag (add a few drops nice smelling oil if you have some ) and sew up. Set in your microwave for a few minutes and it will stay snuggly and hot . Food: I do think that things such as coffee, rice and pasta are great and taste just the same as products to me. If you will find offers on, buy in bulk and purchase things like mince which can be cooked in a variety of ways and frozen until needed. I mince and make a very good spaghetti bolognese which costs from own brand ingredients next to nothing. Then, using meat in the exact same pack I also make mince and onion pie and freeze portions of both. If you think you can save a lot of cash this way.
