Ms Clawthorne (or Professor, if that is preferred),
. I suppose I would like to congratulate you on this success. Your tournament seems to have drawn a great deal of support. I'm delightfully surprised. Is this your first major foray into competitive magick sports?
(Would one call this a sport, or is a tournament its own class?)
. It certainly warms my heart to see the Magick and Mundus community gather to play on a somewhat even field, or at least voluntarily on an uneven one. Is that appropriate to say?
. In any case, I am pleased for you. It seems you have one more legacy attached to your name.
. Would you consider, when this is over, meeting me for a cup of coffee? I'm sure you currently have your hands completely full with this tournament, not to mention having been inundated with papers and preparation for finals at your university post.
. However, if it does cross your mind to humour me, the offer is there.
[A phone number, scrawled tightly between the letter and signature.]
Sincerely,
Majke de Spell.

"Now you're being too kind," Majke says, waving her hand in a modestly (false-modestly?) dismissive fashion. "It had been your suggestion in the first place, my dear."
She gives him an intentional, knowing smile before taking another bite -- the slight tang of the balsamic lingering on her tongue.
"Oh, the je ne sais quoi idea, hmmm? That unknowable, special something. I'm not entirely sure, at this moment, if this is a date among friends or potential partners..." She pauses, raises a brow... then the fork to her mouth again, delicately chewing on another speared tomato. "Or maybe I'm not meant to know, moment to moment. It's more exciting that way, isn't it?"

"You sell yourself short," Majke says, "you could probably hold my attention with the details if you tried. I'm sure you're good at explaining the intricacies." Perhaps an odd comment, but she's glancing at the table while she says it.
The conversation turns to her and Majke shrugs. "What makes you say it suits me?" She asks, eyebrow raised in a teasing way. "My talkativeness? Surely not my efficiency. You were the one to bring business cards to a dating event," she says casually. Everything about her tone and posture feels like its teetering on a border of flirtation and friendliness. So far, Smee seemed to lean towards one, but invitation for the other was open.
Majke wasn't opposed, he seemed nice. And nice guys usually didn't stick around but they were just what they sounded like. Nice.
Before Majke can say anything else, the waiter returns with their appetizer and Majke offers a nod of gratitude. Food orders put in -- Majke settled finally on a Carbonara -- though she hopes he isn't too put off by not accepting his first suggestion.
"Caprese salad was a good choice," she says once the waiter leaves, looking at the vibrancy of the colors. "Everyone talks about how it's easier to make food at home, but I'll admit, I don't think I could choose the right ingredients to make anything that smells so delicious."

Oh. Chilly. Majke goes back to sipping the last bit of her wine, trying to seem like she's moved on from the topic. But money was always a difficult subject, and one that lingers. Majke keeps it in the back of her mind, but ultimately does help move the conversation along.
"The Rock Shoppe is hanging in there, no holes in the ceiling or anything," Majke says, head tilted back like she was slightly uninterested. Demon attacks. Terrible for insurance claims. "Martin's busy with... things. Mim's driving me up a wall. Other than that, life is pretty normal."
A fling here or there, but Majke wasn't going to admit to being messy, even in the company of friends. "I guess all there is right now is work, not that I'm really complaining. It's good to keep my mind off things. I'm sure our Georgette has much more exciting news about life. Your life does seem exciting."

Tiana Truitt, don't say no to me yet, Majke thinks, though she has no power of influence. Wouldn't that be something? Instead, she just offers a winning smile at the other woman's laugh and lets Tiana mull that over in her head.
"I'm glad. Just let me know if you need anything. Or notice anything you have questions about," Majke says, still charming as ever. She gets up to follow Tiana right up to the door before turning for a last thought. "And I do mean that. I hope you have a good day, Tiana. Ciao."

Majke is surprised by that knowledge, but also not at all. She nods, smiles. There was an oversaturation in her family of sorcerers, but that was a bitter thought that would not be shared.
"Well, I'm glad you found your way here. I'm glad to meet to you," Majke says rather pleasantly.
While she knows a lot of her conversations -- especially first ones -- revolve around Lena, Majke can't help the small bit of guilt that threatens to cling to her when Lena's mentioned. If Majke had been a truly good aunt, Lena wouldn't have a demon or be ill. But that's not--... "Yes. Since shortly after she was born," Majke says with a convincing softness to her tone.
Cheralynne's genuine offer of kindness has Majke nodding, though somewhat taken aback. Why? She doesn't know. Maybe because she's not used to kindness? "I'll keep that in mind. Thank you very much," Majke says, glancing about. "I'll, I think I'll try that light trick where there aren't so many people. You've been wonderful."

Majke's not facing Tiana while she takes in the new effects of the restaurant. She only looks up once Tiana asks about any other form of payment and Magica shakes her head and waves her off. "That would be pretty rotten of me, wouldn't it? Cast the spell and then ask for more? No, dear, you're fine. Unless you'd want to get dinner some night, but that's neither here nor there." She raises a brow for a moment, but shakes that off as well. "Anyways, I should be off. Probably could sneak in a catnap before work, hmm? Are you going to be okay, then?"

Mim was going to be the death of her, Majke decides. She really doesn't know why she's sharing all of this. Maybe this is one of those rare times the two of them could be considered friends--? No, no. Wrong. WRONG.
Majke didn't want to entertain that idea, that sounded -- no.
(Mim's internal thoughts would have been right. It was the latter. Well, Seamus had done something that felt heinous at the time, but Majke was the one who held that grudge like a prize. Spite was motivating! What could she say?)
"Mmmmmhmmmmm," Majke hums, not believing for a second that Mim wasn't up to something. She practically confirms it. And uses the term bestie, leaving Majke with a mild distaste in her mouth. "You enjoy those, I'm done with them. And we've got stocking to do, haven't we? Probably should start on that before the next wave shows up," she says, changing the subject. Though she does begin mulling on the dream once again the moment she pulls out the shipping manifest. "And do tell Seamus I say hi, if you do go to him with all this information. I could at least be cordial about everything, couldn't I?"

Here it was. The time to cast the spell.
Magica lays out the ingredients, both the physical and the reagents and sets them around the photo and medal. She holds her hand over them, her ring seeming to spark, the stone in it channeling magic and an indescribable phenomenon that almost feels like life. (Aether. Close enough.)
Light roams across the room, an impression of warmth following with it. The feeling spreads, traveling across the restaurant and in those moments, everything about it feels more alive, as if the presence in it is like a warm hug. Or allowing you to feel at rest, a guest, in a place of comfort. As if lodging in the lodging between home and hearth.
The light dies down but the sensation of it remains.
Some of the bottles, specifically with the herbs, look tired and wilted. Some reagents have been used up, burnt out. But the medal seems to shine brighter, the photo could almost be described as clearer -- probably by imagination.
"I think," Magica says, beginning to clear away the bottles and ingredients, "that that's all set. The restaurant should feel like a beacon of comfort now. Just remember to not let your soon to come success for to your head, hmmmm?"

Magica knew that looked. That pained, forced smile look. Magica wasn't going to say anything to that, but she did think Annie could think about it. "Oh, surely. It's a big decision, but what's your prescription now? It could get much worse down the road. Thankfully, my vision isn't too bad, but my mother swears by it. No magical cure for cataracts and lost vision, I suppose," Magica says, wistfully.
The lack of instantaneous magick healing sort of was a pain. Someone should get on that.
"Sure, and we can listen and enable more in the future. But it's your choice to make, Annie. I really do think you should think on it though."

Greece. That sounded nice. Majke had been, but it was a short excursion. The reagents she found were lovely, but her trip to Greece ended up being cut short by some family matter or another. Despite trying to get away, there really was no separation from herself and her family. It was maddening at times.
"Ah, that sounds nice," Majke says, sincerely. "What made you decide to move all the while, if you don't mind me asking?"
Because Majke couldn't really imagine spending the rest of her life in Swynlake. She did mean it, she could settle here, to a degree. But it would be between bouts of traveling. Majke was a sort of wandering soul, but not in the bohemia-sort of way. In the way where she didn't know where she belonged and didn't put much effort in putting down roots.
"Oh, [twenties]," Majke says, with a smile. "I was only late-twenties myself when I became her guardian, but I suppose my brother thought I'd be better equipped to handle her chronic conditions than himself."
That bit always made her brother sound bad, and Majke didn't mean to. She really didn't. Poe may bother her, but he wasn't so heartless as to let Lena go without really thinking Majke was better suited.

Majke tilts her head. Nods. "I believe you were getting the spell components," Majke reminds her. "And then we can get started, do a bit of magic, and I can be on my way and you can finish opening tasks." Majke begins taking a few herbs and small jars from her bag. A few reagents a few catalysts. Old magic was so exciting. "I'll set up, you can grab those items, and then we can cast. I do love a good spell in the morning."

The thing about Magica is that she could be kind sometimes. She could be sweet and doting if her heart desired. But she didn't desire it now. She desired Mal begging, paying for her attitude with some well deserved words. It's beautiful, Magica thinks, watching Mal try to hold her stance. But it's clear to see that Mal was loosing to lust and want. And that Magica was winning.
The smirk washes clear, giving way to that begging. Pleading. Wanting and, dare Magica think, needing.
Wherever Magica wanted.
What an offer. Magica smirks, holding Mal's gaze intently. Biting her lip. Mal may be a confident sort, able to draw in others with her giving nature... but Magica gave differently. She was experienced in some ways that she expects Mal wasn't. That was no fault of Mal's, maybe it was just age.
Older women knew what they wanted. What could Magica say?
Magica gave both heartily and hungrily, allowing each of their -- her and her partner's -- cravings to mingle and mix. A pull and push, of hair of limbs... there was an respect and thoughtfulness that Magica held in even the most dominating of actions. This wasn't solely about power, she reminds herself, slowly undoing Mal's pants. Hooking her fingers through the belt loops and pulling Mal loosely.
It had been her request afterall-- and wherever was such a tempting offer.
She shoved her to lean against the kitchen table, pulling her pants down just enough to allow Magica to tease against her boxes. Press into the wetness and hum a bit.
The presence of her hand down Mal's thigh, then up, then the other.
"As you like," Magica grinds out, slipping her hand under Mal's boxes on the return and stroking lightly, feathering her fingers over her. Magica learns forward, catching Mal's lips and biting, her other hand going to Mal's hair -- 1, for another sensation, 2, for balance as Magica leans forward and begins pushing one finger, then two, in and out, palm pressing against Mal's clit as she does. It's warm. It's wet.
Mal's made it easier, hasn't she, Magica thinks to herself, groaning into Mal's flesh.
She's warm. She's flushed. It's beautiful and handsome at the same time.
"Like this? This is what you wanted," Magica asks softly, a light rasp in her voice, curling her fingers and pressing in and out again, punctuating her words that was both a question and a statement at once, "Don't be shy. I want to hear you."
