Kei during her academy years

She was never an aggressive child but after losing basically everyone you knew and was familiar with, then latching onto a baby that is disliked by most of your hometown would give anyone some issues

One thing I really find interesting about Naruto that is never explored in canon is the relationship between shinobi and citizens and the politics surrounding that. Kei has no power against shinobi clans since she is citizen-born and even less power against citizens because her parents were war orphan immigrants. So, although she was in a class with prodigy Itachi and other clan kids, she never reached out to them (or anyone really). She was taught of her status before her parents died and knew the risks with getting involved with clans.

Also, because she decided to care for Naruto in the orphanage, she was isolated from the rest of the village. People thought she was being "controlled by the demon" or something and usually treated her unfairly. There is only a handful of people who would treat her kindly, one of them being Mikoto.

Now, I am a firm believer that Mikoto would've helped Naruto in canon IF clan politics never forced her to stay away. But because she is the Uchiha matriarch, she can't really help Naruto without drawing suspicion so she decides to help Kei out in the market in a discreet way that makes it seem like her help is more of a generous woman helping a poor orphan child than reaching out and looking after Naruto in an indirect way.

(Kei is naturally suspicious of this because there are a few people who had tried to hurt Naruto through her by being kind)

Kei has sensing abilities!! And is very sensitive to chakra. She would get sick from sensing chakra and had learned to oppress it since she was four. She has gotten better and will get better as she continues to train.

Saying she can sense ANBU is kinda a stretch. She has to focus reeeaally hard to do it but she doesn't have to sense them to know that they are watching Naruto. She knows that one is always around him but doesn't really do anything about it because the Third reassured her they're here to protect him (though they never do anything to feed or change him annoyingly enough).

Her sensing abilities are the only thing really remarkable of her at this age. Although she is written down as a sensor type, the sensitivity isn't recognized because she has learned to keep her secrets to herself. It really isn't a problem to hide them either because her lack of talent in other areas make her easy to dismiss. It's because of this that she was able to keep Root away.

(Kei will notice that talented orphan kids will start missing and she would be grateful that she never showed off her sensing ability. It isn't until a few years later after she has a genin team will she learn where they went.)

Another Naruto OC revision

For some odd reason, her old design had green hair and blue eyes but I decided to keep it because I need something to separate her from other characters

In this image, she is around 20 yo cuz Kei is 10 and caring for a 4 year old Naruto but she does generally look the same even when she's older

Anyway, I made her some rogue ninja instead of a loyal Konoha nin that she originally was to spice things up

Another old OC? From like 2017-18 maybe? I was in high school when I made her

Her concept was everywhere but I decided to pick on the older sis role because there are SO MANY traumatized children in Naruto that I still cry and weep over and this oc is my way to comfort myself
