I didn't find out about the boops until like an hour ago, and now they are gone. I booped so many times, then suddenly an error, and no more boops. My boops went uncounted. rip boops.
There is danger, sickness, and disruption of the ecosystem. When adopting, the rescue I went to said they will not adopt out cats to people who will let them outdoors, as there are too many dangers:
Injuries (hit by vehicle, caught in car engine, fighting with predators)
Poison (toxic plants, accidental ingesting of chemicals, or intentionally poisoned by others)
The average lifespan of an indoor cat ranges from 10-20 years. Outdoor cats typically live only 5-7 years.
I was scrolling TikTok and there are people who promote and believe in culling outdoor cats. With people out there who are happy to kill cats, why would any responsible owner risk this for 'enrichment.'
Make them a spot to lay by the window. Leash train them for walks. Get them toys and interactive puzzles. Play with them. Let them try different treats. Try clicker training. I taught my cats to high-five, gives kisses, stand. Cats are inquisitive, there are endless ways to enrich their lives.
I've had the "bring your cats inside" argument so.many.dang.times. I believe it is safer and better for them to be indoors. But some people just can't be argued with in this situation.
It's safer and better for them to be indoors. Just give your cats some fucking enrichment in their home life and they'll be fine. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be a cat owner.
