help i still do not understand hoax
IMO: It’s a song about feeling betrayed by the person you love, who you let in and trusted, who you’ve made sacrifices for, who knew all the things that hurt you in the past (your triggers), who threw a wrench in everything and the life you had built together by the deceptiveness of their actions; and choosing to be/stay with them despite this unforeseen and tricky hurdle, despite this persons questionable commitment, and how completely floored with sadness it has made you. I think it also implies that other person is starting to have a lack of confidence in the relationship and is really down about that and life and the person singing is still choosing them despite allll the hurt and pain they are feeling (and the other person is feeling), they’re saying I still choose you.
So thematically I see it as a song about being betrayed in one of the ways that would hurt the most given this persons past, someone losing faith, being depressed, and what unconditional loves and commitment means in light of obstacles like that
