LuminaireX Hosts JUNTAS
Tumblr media
On July 11, LuminaireX hosted Juntas: Bringing Creative Expression to Self-Care to all women who dare to break out of their shell. An unconventional evening designed to inspire others and change lives.
The evening began with a group of over thirty empowering women and a special invitation to choose an activity to kick off their journey of creative awakening. Followed by an introduction to the facilitators and details of the interaction.
In order to set the mood, each was asked to gather in a circle around the room and hold hands. This exercise aided in reinforcing and empowering connections. Ultimately easing the way to their chosen activity and inspiring the soul.
Tumblr media
The room had a delightful ambiance filled with many activities including flower crown creations, artistic projects, letterpress, mindfulness exercises, and discussions of self-preservation.
Featuring lifestyle mentors MIALife10 Maria Recio and Celia Herrero, artisanal printer Catalina Rojas, visual artist Claudia Viallata, mindfulness advocate Suzanne Jewell, florist Tawnie Aguilar, and engagement specialists Lolo Evans and Aurelia Crews.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After each woman finished their participation in their chosen activities, they gathered collectively to explore self-care and to share their experiences of the day. The idea was to discuss, bring awareness, and bridge the gap between real-life, showing what they can do in the light of enjoyment.
Luminaire’s passion for the fine arts culture and education has remained part of its foundation since day one. A philosophy encouraged through intellectual endeavors and thought-provoking workshops.

Finding The Most Influential Piece In Your Home- The Dining Table
Tumblr media
Far more than a flat surface on which we eat, the dining table serves various purposes. It’s a gathering place for friends and family where most celebrations take place. It’s a sacred space where we can forget about our hectic lives and create memories. Besides being the most versatile piece in your home, the dining table should be accommodating, well crafted, and timeless.
Dining tables are also considered to be a focal point in your home. They can add extra style to your all-around décor and bring liveliness to a room. While able to stand unadorned, part of the enjoyment is adding unique accessories and materials. This is a great way to keep reinventing the appearance of your dining table.
Tumblr media
Selecting an ideal table can be a simple acquirement at LuminaireX. Located in the Design District, at 4141 NE 2nd Ave and opened from 10am to 6pm. Monday to Saturday. The best part of it all is reduced prices on the some of the most exquisite dining tables available.

Last week, design education advocates joined us along with PlayBuild and Miami’s Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) for the inauguration of the BIGamajig installation as well as a presentation by PlayBuild’s founder, Angela Kyle.
Focused on helping to raise funds and bring awareness about PlayBuild to Miami’s design community, we partnered with the New Orleans based non-profit organization to host them for an evening in our space dedicated to bringing together like-minded individuals. PlayBuild essentially helps to enrich communities and engage kids 4-12 to learn through play using creative and innovative tools and toys focused around design and architecture in order to stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in exploring careers across a wide spectrum of design disciplines.
Throughout the evening, guests were filled with curiosity about the sculptural BIGamajig which received its name from its size compared to other structures built by much younger kids during activities organized by PlayBuild in New Orleans. DASH students Paul Fishel, Manuel Rios-Salazar, Giuliano Confresi, William Farnington and Seva Simone spoke about their design process and experience while building the BIGamajig, which features a pully system and its companion, a fully functional recliner, both built using the toy building kit, Rigamajig. The Rigamajig designed by Cas Holman, an industrial design professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, is an innovative way for kids to learn through play and explore their creativity.
Later in the evening, guests were invited upstairs for a presentation by PlayBuild’s founder as well as Joanika and Kay Davis who grew up in the community where PlayBuild built its first playspace. Located in New Orlean’s Central City neighborhood, PlayBuild turned a once vacant lot into a creative gathering space for local kids, parents, and schools. Kyle gave further insight into PlayBuild’s history and mission while the Davis cousins spoke about their personal experience growing up in the neighborhood and seeing the impact PlayBuild has had on their youth and community as a whole.
Overall the evening was a fun, interactive and insightful event for Miami’s community to experience the work of future architects and industrial designers along with organizations and institutions like PlayBuild and DASH, that together with Luminaire believe in the importance of community involvement to further the advancement of design and empower younger generations of designers.

Bringing PlayBuild to life, a group of industrial design and architecture students from Miami’s Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) will build a sculpturally-playful installation using the Rigamajig. The Rigamajig is a toy building kit used by PlayBuild in their programming and activities that consists of a collection of wooden planks, wheels, pulleys, nuts, bolts, and rope that allow children to use their imagination and learn through play.
This week DASH students, Paul Fishel, Manuel Rios-Salazar, Giuliano Confresi, William Farnington and Seva Simone began to experiment with the Rigamajig pieces discovering the endless possibilities the kit offers.
For the event on Thursday, February 22, the final installation will be revealed during which PlayBuild founder, Angela Kyle, will speak about the organization’s background and mission to transform under-utilized urban spaces into exciting kid-friendly environments for play and learning.

LuminaireX is starting the year combining design with philanthropy
LuminaireX partnered up with Deft Union to create an incredible tone-on-tone interior that will be presented at 2018 Design on a Dime Miami.
Some items from our collection were donated to support this initiative. Design on a Dime Miami is a two-day benefit event that features an all-star cast of interior designers who create unique vignettes using donated items from top-tier brands, such as Luminaire. During the exhibition, Design-savvy shoppers purchase high-end furniture, art, and home décor at 50-80% off retail prices to benefit Housing Works.
At the heart of Luminaire is a desire for social responsibility that combines the company's passion for design education with its belief that good design affects lives. In uniting these goals, Luminaire had started the Love series that invites renowned designers from around the world to participate in creating one of a kind objects to be auctioned for charity. The philanthropic “Love” series has raised over 1 million dollars which are directly distributed to support cancer research.
Supporting Housing Works becomes a natural path for Luminaire. Their AIDS-FREE USA 2025 campaign is also a collaborative, community-based initiative, working to end the AIDS epidemic in the US by 2025.
To see the result of LuminaireX and Deft Union vignette and shop good design at special prices, purchase your Design on a Dime Miami tickets here.
