Not every shitty person is shitty because of a disorder that pop psychology likes to demonise. Slapping a label on every shitty person out there is ableist toward the NPD/ASPD sufferers who are just trying to get by. Stop it.

Because of the stigma attached to being a narcissist, psychopath, or sociopath, many of them avoid being diagnosed or never tell anyone about it.

Usually, the only time anyone ever gets diagnosed is after they committed a heinous crime.

This only leads to more stigma.

i had to leave a server that i was active in just now

i asked someone to use a different word when they described past bad/abusive employers as "narcissistic" and got reprimanded by a mod who said that people could be narcissistic without having NPD. now, i'm not too sure about this and i was ready to leave it be until another mod came in to support the original person i talked to by saying that they wished that their current job was "NPD-free."

i didn't stick around to see anyone's response. i hope that someone finds problem in that statement, but i don't know if they will. i usually give discord servers two chances but i don't think i'll do so with this server.

Employers are abusive on a regular basis. They only care about the profit that the employees can produce and not about the employees' well being. They only care about money while labeling their employees as "entitled brats" if they do the same. If an employee dropped dead, the employer would only care about replacing them.

Abuse from employers is normal, not narcissistic.

"People can be narcissistic without having NPD" is just a bullshit excuse that ableists use to dodge criticism. If they're not talking about people with NPD, they shouldn't use the same terminology as people who are.

What I find fucking hilarious is that people think I've been a blind supporter of personality disorders my entire life. They don't know that for years, I believed in narcissistic/borderline abuse. I believed all anti-socials were scary. I used psychopath/sociopath/narcissist as insults. I was even in Facebook groups that supported survivors of "narcissistic abuse".

After growing up surrounded by people who believed in these things, why wouldn't I believe them, too?

When I was fourteen, I began doing research on what it meant to be a narcissist. I had incredibly ableist intentions while doing so, and I went through weeks of anti-narcissist stuff before stumbling across blogs similar to this one on Tumblr. (yes. it took tumblr to change my mind, which shows you just how bad things are.)

From there, I began to drip feed myself information on NPD, occasionally scrolling through the NPD tag and checking out blogs that held the very beliefs I hated. I never interacted with them, but was interested in figuring out why there was so much positivity for something I deemed so wrong.

So, it wasn't even that I was "brainwashed" into believing these things. I did extensive research from both angles and even had discussions with my grandmother about it, who since then has also done a heap of self-education.

This is why I can't help but laugh when people tell me I'm uneducated on the subject, or that I need to do more research instead of blindly following along with whatever the people around me say. I'd say the closest I ever got to following that advice made me realise just how wrong I was about so much.

And now I'm diagnosed with BPD, which only further proves their point that not everyone was cluster b personality disorders are bad:)

Reminder that Project 2025 is a thing; basically, if a Republican presidential candidate is elected next year, they have every intention of instating a full-on fascist government. Among many other horrible things, Project 2025 intends to criminalize anything trans-related as pornographic, and imprison anyone putting out such "pornography."

We really, really gotta do whatever we can to make sure a Republican candidate isn't elected. I know we're probably gonna be faced with shitty choices yet again (and how I wish it wasn't so), but we cannot afford to let this happen.
