Thinking about my headcannon that Elphaba doesn’t know how to properly tie shoes (and/or stays if she wears them)

No one taught her growing up so she just tied the laces in a knot and slipped her shoes/boots on and off. Nessa wore slip on type shoes all the time (often heels) since they were easier to take on and off while in her chair.

So when Elphaba is on the run and Fiyero joins her, and one day he is helping her take her boots off after she sprains her ankle (and thus can’t slide the shoes off) and can’t get the knot undone. The following convo leads to Elphaba getting pissed off and cranky and explaining how no one taught her so that is how she’s been tying her shoes her whole life.

This is one of the events that lets Fiyero truly understand how different their upbringings were, and it humbles him. He also knows better than to offer to teach her in the moment, so instead he used a quill to undo the knot. Later he’ll show her how to tie laces by simply doing it slowly in front of her without saying anything, knowing she’ll watch and remember the steps so she can practice on her own later.

Have you ever drawn Elphaba and Toto together? I was watching the Wizard of Oz movie today and there was a scene where the WW was petting Toto after she captured Dorothy. I think it would be cute in the context of Wicked since Elphie loves animals 💚

anon that's so cute and i swear i saw a moment like that in the movie, so it's good to have confirmation i did not imagine it! i have a headcanon myself that she'd be nicer to toto and the cowardly lion than to the rest of team dorothy because of that haha.

i drew this in the past (whoa my lines used to be so clean wtf happened), elphaba is holding a cute baby chistery but toto is in the picture so close enough :) i planned to draw her with malky at some point but kind of forgot. (now i'm thinking if the fact that is a white cat is an intended counterpoint to toto🤔)

so i made you one, it's a bit unfinishy-looking because i've been having a rough time with work but i didn't want to let this ask sit for more than 2 days ;; for some reason i had it in my head that toto is TINY
