Honestly the Think Tank are one of the funniest bits of Fallout lore, like they're a centuries-old polycule who are also flying brains in jars. They're trapped in a timeloop where they're yelled at by one of their ex-members. One of them does unspeakable things to your gun. There's an entire scrapped ending where they fuck up the entire Mojave. Most of their inventions are (seemingly?) sentient and/or sapient. One of them hated Mr. House so much that they built a tiny Securitron that exists solely to clean mugs.

she's knelt down to stuff her pistol back into her boot while he talks, not really listening, thinking about where to next stock up on ammo. when he's finished, kaj smiles up at him, like a parent acknowledging a child's tantrum (read: a smidgen patronizing, with blood on her face to boot). "i didn't like it either," she agrees, a half-truth, "but you know, you gave me the whole idea. why the hell should i go in from the front when caesar's backdoor is unlocked, right?" maybe house would've taken benny's betrayal a little more seriously if he'd known what it would inspire, or if he knew that caesar was the last bastion between him and the barrel of kaj's rifle. the grains of sand in robert house's clock are sliding away, slowly but surely.

she wonders if benny will protest to that. if he'll feel killing the man in the big tower is too much for him to bear, given their history (or what kaj has been able to piece together of it). kaj stands, dusting off her pants, casual as you please despite the horror she's just put upon them both. a little kissing up may be in order, after all that. "poor baby, you're looking a little roughed up. need me to take a look at you? i'll be easy."

it's rare that joss lets audra leave the vault. but they can agree that it isn't fair for her to stay cooped up in the warm den that is vault 88 all the time (as happy as it would make her bear of a mother). so when joss comes to diamond city one evening, it's with a very excited, very determined little girl at their hip, bouncing on her toes. danse stands in the distance in full power armor, because joss isn't taking any chances when it comes to the kids. though he seems to be having a difficult time communicating with the noodles bot, and joss cracks a small smile at his constant misfortune.

they graciously let audra knock on the door to publick occurences, and she does so a little too hard. there aren't many girls her age in the wasteland, and nat is not only one of them, but tough enough to withstand audra's rough idea of "play". joss just hopes they decide to skip the game of deathclaw versus radroach this time.

when the door opens, joss smiles, tired but good-natured. it could almost be pre-war, this whole setup, knocking on someone's door to ask if your kids can run around in the sprinklers together. audra talks before joss can, her voice far too big for her body. "hey, piper!" a sideways look at her mom, and she corrects, "miss piper. can nat play today?" the puppy eyes are brutal.
