Before tears of the kingdom came out, I was watching a video on youtube that talked about volcanic signs around hyrule. As they pointed out what different structures around death mountain and akkala could've been, I started seeing those kinds of structures and shapes everywhere and I realized..
Hyrule is on top of a very large volcanic area
I started looking for signs. I realized there were hot springs in tabantha, and hot springs is not just something that cold regions have, no, it's something volcanic regions have.
When tears of the kingdom came out one of my top priotities was to get to the depths and see if there's lava underneath these hot springs, and sure enough there they were! Not only that, I found volcanic shapes in the depths themselves, as well as lava in other places I didn't know about.
Why am I talking about this?
Because they're not just there as decorations, at least not to me.
Look at Hyrule great forest. It obviously used to be a big forest spanning from above hyrule castle all the way to the top of the map, covering the west part of death mountains foot. Now the trees are all burned down from a volcanic eruption, except for in two regions that have strangely moat-looking "rivers" around them.
I'm not going to pretend I believe these are rivers. I'm 100% sure they are man made. These moats were dug in order to protect important land marks, because the people knew that they live on a volcanic region. It's no coincidence that the castle has a huge moat around it as well. They are trying to be safe from their inevitable doom.
But it's not just this. Moats don't always save you, and volcanoes eventually go dormant.
I imagine if you're the least interested in zelda lore and the zelda timeline, you've asked yourself the question, "Why does the map change so drastically?". Well, here's your answer.
Death mountain isn't just any mountain, it's always the most recently active volcano and the place where the gorons live! The gorons move around, when there's a new volcano they move there!
Towns safety become threatened, and so they move. Look at the ruins on the sides of death mountain, they're not burned, they're abandoned. So the people move around, they literally have no choice but to do so, unless they take to drastic measures, like raising your town high above the ground and building a wall around it, like the great plateau.
Why are the sheikah towers buried under ground and designed to shoot up with incredible force? Why not just build them in place and why do they need to be so tall? Maybe they were preparing them to be able to function even after lava has covered the ground.
The extremely mountainous nature of all of hyrule is honestly the best sign we have of this. By looking at the mountains we can conclude where the latest volcano was, and I think it was in Hebra.
So when trying to piece together how the maps work together, you can't look at things like a town, a castle or a volcano, because those things are constantly moving. I'd say maybe the desert could be the way to go, but we've seen very clearly that deserts used to be oceans. If you look to the horizon in gerudo desert in botw, you'll see water.
I think that the gorons migrate when their volcano gets too cold. If we look at majoras mask and assume that termina is in fact a real place, this is the first time we see gorons living in a cold place, and they don't seem to be thriving. Gorons like the warmth that the volcano provides.
So why does death mountain switch places?? Because it's not the same mountain! Death mountain is always the volcano! So one volcano goes dormant, another one pops up and the gorons move there. And this also explains a loooooot of other geographical questions. The people of hyrule are living under a constant threat of destruction by volcano, and that's why they need to move their castles and everything. If we were to assume the temple of time from ocarina of time is the same as in breath of the wild, we clearly see they moved/abandoned the castle and castle town because of the close proximity of death mountain in ocarina of time. It all makes a lot of sense and makes me feel like the map changing isn't such a big problem to me anymore.

Major Discovery: BotW’s Adventure Log = Link’s Diary?!
SERIOUSLY.
(Spoiler Alert)
At this point, our beloved game Breath of the Wild has been out for around half a year already. If you have played the game, you are probably very familiar with the Adventure Log feature in BotW that helps you keep track of all your missions and side quests. Or else its pretty much impossible to remember if you were catching chickens for this guy or collecting weapons to show that kid who’s boss.
But here’s the thing- Have you ever thought about the Adventure Log’s origin? Who or what is helping Link keep track of his missions?
If your answer is the Sheikah Slate or the “system”, which is what I’ve always thought, I’m gonna go ahead and assume you own an European/American copy of the game. Because apparently, in the Japanese version of the game, there is evidence that shows that LINK is the one who wrote the adventure log to keep track of his own journey.
“Ok… So what?”
So Link wrote the Adventure Log. Big deal. It’s not like this is gonna change the gameplay in any way.
…True. However, Link didn’t JUST record his missions in the Adventure Log. According to the Japnese version, Link would often type up some of his own thoughts and comments on what he was doing aside from his current objectives. This could give us a deeper insight of Link’s character.
Here’s an example:
Tumblr media
This is what shows up after you complete The Hero’s Sword quest. The content of the two versions are very similar, but notice the use of “自分” (myself) in pic 1. This is evidence that the adventure log is written by Link, who’s talking about himself in first person narrative, instead of “the system”. With that in mind, the Japanese version can be translated to:
(I) Finally retrieved the legendary Master Sword. (I) Don’t know if it’s just an illusion, but the sword itself seems to be delighted about this.
To this moment, Princess Zelda is still inside Hyrule Castle, fighting to suppress the Calamity.
She is still holding on to the faith in me, believing that I will definitely come for her…!
But with the power (that I have) now, can she really be saved (by myself)…?
You see what they did there?
The English version replaced every first person pronoun Link has used with “you”!
As someone who owns an American copy, and has never set the system language to Japanese, I was absolutely SHOCKED when I was told about this (credits at the end).
Remember how we could find diaries of NPCs all across Hyrule? Link’s was right under our noses this whole time!
Now that you know about this, does your adventure log seem a bit different from before?
Tumblr media
(I) finished visiting all 13 of the locations in the old pictures. I remembered everything I’ve been through together with Princess Zelda.
In those memories (of mine), Princess Zelda always strived to complete the task burdened onto her…
Even if it’s just a moment sooner, (I) want to save her as quickly as possible
(I) want to see her smile again, with these eyes (of my own).
The translation on this one is just OFF. I can’t believe the English version completely omitted the last part, and replaced it with some kind of mission instruction.
Link has been fighting all this time to see Princess Zelda’s smile again with his own eyes.
 …*sniff*
Not to mention those side quest logs. Once you realize that all of the entries were written by Link himself, the seemingly trivial information recorded in those suddenly opens up so many more hidden sides of Link. It basically re-introduced Link as someone with normal human emotions instead of the silent hero depicted throughout the game.
The caring Link, who was worried about a girl he only met twice for putting herself in danger:
Tumblr media
…(I) ventured inside and found part of the Royal Guard’s Series, famous among equipment collectors.
When those were shown to Parcy, the traveler at the stable, her curiosity about it seem to be provoked more than ever (by me). (I) Hope she won’t do anything reckless…
The compassionate Link, who felt glad for other peoples’ happiness:
Tumblr media
As a sign of appreciation for bringing the town together and as compensation for the work done (by me), a hefty amount of gems that were unearthed during the town’s construction were given by Hudson (to me).
(I) wish the couple could live happily ever after.
The reckless Link, who apparently felt thrilled when he managed to knock out some monsters with his new companion:
Tumblr media
(I) captured the giant horse in Taobab Grasslands
So that’s why. It’s indeed a really big horse. It trampled whatever kind of monster in its way with ease when it galloped. That was really cool.
When it was brought back to Straia (by me), he was very surprised.
Link the foodie, who carefully noted down new recipes he learned along the way for future use:
Tumblr media
(I) brought Kiana the goat butter and hearty blueshell snail required for cooking seafood paella. She shared some of the dish (with me) as thanks!
/////Recipe/////
The playful Link, who tried to mimic the way Gorons speak- by adding “goron” at the end of every sentence- after he passed the Test of Will and became one of the bros:
Tumblr media
……
Ah… (I) kinda want to write down Kabetta’s Bro Motto, but there’s not enough space goron?
That’s too bad goron…
The empathetic Link, who felt nervous for the guy in this side quest, then relieved when the couple finally got together:
Tumblr media
…and… THIS:
Tumblr media
The last line on the left is the Japanese equivalent of What the heck…
I guess the statue is a bit too weird even for our great adventurer.
Finally, we have the entry that shows up after you complete the DLC trial:
Tumblr media
(I) finally conquered the merciless Trial of the Sword.
……
(I believe that) Princess Zelda would be quite happy about how much I’ve improved
As we all know, Breath of the Wild is a game that focuses a lot on the freedom given to the players. Even the main story line is broken down into the form of memories, waiting for the players to find. As the players venture on into the wild, they would eventually find the information they need to learn about this world. The amazing amount of details you can find about Hyrule and its people is an important reason why BotW is so attractive.
On the contrary, the info available about our protagonist is very limited. The only piece of description that directly describes Link is in Zelda’s diary, where she points out that he is a very quiet person, and that’s it for our hero.
…NOT!!
Link had always had the most extensive character description. Right under our noses.
Nintendo got us. They got us GOOD.
But now we know.
SIX months after the game’s launch.
…Better late than never.
End.
P.S.: Fun fact about BotW Link- he seems to like the sand seal game a lot. Of all the entires about racing minigames, the sand seal game is the only one where Link wrote “(I’ll) try to get a better score next time!”
Tumblr media
He’s so adorable I can’t //////

Disclaimer: I did not discover this.
This discovery was made by a Chinese gamer @atomaruU about a week ago. To make sure that her theory is correct, she cross referenced the English version of the game, only to discover that the language is completely emotionless and robotic. Therefore, to allow more people to see who Link REALLY is, I was asked to write this post based on the Chinese article she published.

I did all of them…
Had some I really wanted to do; others I kinda struggled figuring out what they they would wear; I wanted all the skirts to be different, but the colors to stay true to that Link. Also, wanted to give them a chain or buckle of some sort to “link” them together.
Anyway, here is the complete Linked Fashion lineup! I had a good time with it!

Since people seem weirdly interested in my info dump about Rito bows, I feel I may as well point out another thing.
I see it mentioned a lot that Revali's bow has this scrap of fabric tied to it and people theorising in fanfiction that it's something sentimental or represents something.
Tumblr media
But it's actually fairly common to tie a piece of fabric to your bow, and you'll see that the other Rito bows have a feather attached to the supports for the same reason - because it shows the direction the wind is blowing.
Having something loose hanging from the top of your bow means you can see what direction the wind is blowing and how strong the wind is by the way that thing is moving in your peripheral vision without having to take your eye off the target.
So yeah! Another bow fact of the day for you guys from your resident archery nerd and birb boi enthusiast.

You know what I havn't heard anyone talk about yet?
The fact the Rito use what look like their own simplified version of compound bows.
Tumblr media
So - for anyone who doesn't know archery, there's different types of bows you can use. The type you'll usually see in media is a long bow. (There's also flat bows, recurve bows, crossbows, etc.)
Tumblr media
A compound bow is a more modern bow - and the most common type you'd probably use now days if you joined an archery club.
Tumblr media
You can see the familiarities - the wheels, the supports, the shapes. The Rito bows are like a wooden version.
Tumblr media
So why is it interesting? Well - they made the design choice to chose a more modern bow style rather than a more traditional one like a longbow dispite the fact the enviroments aren't modern. So this was a very specific design decision they made. Why are compound bows more commonly used now days? Because they take less strength to pull and fire. Simple as that. To shoot a long bow, you need very good upper arm strength. Compound bows distribute the pressure to make them easier to wield if you don't have that.
Birds have hollow bones so that they can fly, and the Rito warriors seem to mostly have slender builds for dexterity. The liklihood is that they don't have incredible muscle strength. So using compound bows makes perfect sense. They can also be lighter, because a long bow or a flat bow must be made of a solid piece of wood so it can bend without breaking, but a compound bow is usually made from hollow pieces of metal (though theoretically could be made from wood), because they don't have so much pressure on them. So they'd be able to be flown around with much easier.
This probably isn't of any interest to anyone, but it was something interesting I noticed that I wanted to share!

Could Link from the Legend of Zelda survive Dracula? The feral little dude can certainly climb walls.
and a more different anonymous asks:
Link, from whatever version of The Legend of Zelda you like best.
We've been playing a lot of Tears of the Kingdom lately and you know what? He sure can climb walls! That's - you're so incredibly right about that! Paprika Hendl will likely give him cold resist rather than replenishing the stamina, which may not help him in June - but hopefully it won't be raining!
Alright, so. Link would never refuse a quest item. But he's an elf, he doesn't need to shave anyway. ...actually now that I think about it there are Hylians with beards... but they tend to be older, taller men. Link is famously short.
Now it's going to bother me. What do you guys think? Does Link shave??
Anyway. Link seems to have difficulty telling people "no." He gets subjected to so many indignities. It sets him up for a Bad Time in the Castle but it's also key to surviving Dracula himself. On the other hand, Link doesn't really talk. How long is "hya!" going to keep Dracula entertained? On the other other hand, he is a very good listener. Dracula can monologue about his backstory and Link will keep "next" indefinitely. It's not any more tedious than the stupid Yiga clan.
Link is very bad at opening locked doors, but he is very good at finding creative ways into secret areas. I do not think he would pass out on the couch though because Link doesn't sleep.
Okay hang on again serious question. I know Link in principle can sleep, and I know everyone's playstyle is different, but like... does anyone ever actually buy a bed at the stables or whatever?? It always strikes me as wow this sure is a mechanic that exists that I cannot imagine using literally ever.
Ah there we go - Link sleeps in his bed the night of June 29th which gives him the bonus stamina wheel necessary to get all the way down the Castle wall on the 30th, since Dracula stole his paraglider.
That's another thing. I feel like Link is severely hamstrung without his Stuff. Jonathan tries to send letters so Dracula takes his envelopes; Link starts mucking around on the walls like a Sticky Lizard and Dracula is gonna take his cool Climbing Bandana. He still can (and will) climb, but he'll have no gear, no weapons, no consumables - it'll be like Eventide Island all over again: terrible. But, of course, Link can and does survive Eventide Island.
I don't think Link could survive the wolves. I mean Link regularly takes on wolves with no difficulty but that's like... 2 or 3 at a time. But a whole pack with no gear and no buffs? Link is very capable of dying from low level enemies, and he's got no fairy bottles in his pockets since Dracula stole his pants. On the other hand, as anyone who has ever sneaked past a sleeping Hinox can attest, Link is also very capable of avoiding fights he can't win. On the other other hand, the opportunity to unlock a New Area might be worth an infinite number of wolves. It could go either way honestly.
I think Link probably can survive Castle Dracula. He'll lack enrichment with no puzzles to solve, but Link puts up with so much nonsense all the time. The silver lining is that even though Dracula can steal his clothes, he can't actually wear them, because Link is, as has been established, Real Short
