Do you have any tips for preparing for nanowrimo?

schedule your writing time on an actual calendar, either a day ahead or a week ahead. also schedule time to schedule your time

make sure you have a plan for if you get stuck. as in, if you write yourself into a corner in one area, then move over to a different part of the story

talk to a friend about your project to help you get more jazzed about writing it

prepare the document you're going to write in--formatting, title, page numbers, the whole thing. make it pretty!

make a moodboard and a playlist. then in november, if you get stuck, listen to the playlist and look at the moodboard

in october, write a letter to your december self with goals and expectations. in december, write a letter to your next october self about how it went, where you struggled, etc. repeat next year

okay, that's all i've got. i've done nano a number of times but i had to stop because my process changed in such a way that i can't really measure raw word count anymore.

who i used to be.

sometimes i miss the newness of being 16. of holding hands for the first time, of stolen kisses in movie theaters, of soft moans in the backseat of her car. everything is different now, and i’m so far removed from who i was before that i don’t know if i’d recognize the me from 10 years ago. i can’t tell if that’s a good or a bad thing, but maybe it’s neither. maybe it’s just the way things are when you get older.
