Behold: my first bread and a great gnocchi recipe I found on a cooking app (👩‍✈️👩‍🍳)
I have spontaneously decided to treat my tumblr like an erratic diary for the upcoming May, tagging #juliismaydiary, so you can block it out easier ✌️ I have made this incredibly thought-through decision because my ADHD is kicking my ass, every picture I take is of bills and food, and I need some accountability without annoying my rl friends to bits and pieces ✨

Stranger in the Village - From all available evidence no black man had ever set foot in this tiny Swiss village before I came…
Notes of a Native Son - On the 29th of July, in 1943, my father died. On the same day, a few hours later, his last child was born…
Letter from a Region in My Mind - I underwent, during the summer that I became fourteen, a prolonged religious crisis…
A Talk to Teachers - Let’s begin by saying that we are living through a very dangerous time…
If Black English Isn’t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is? - The argument concerning the use, or the status, or the reality, of black English is rooted in American history and has absolutely nothing to do with the question the argument supposes itself to be posing…
Many Thousands Gone - It is only in his music, which Americans are able to admire because protective sentimentality limits their understanding of it, that the Negro in America has been able to tell his story….
In Search of a Majority - I am supposed to speak this evening on the goals of American society as they involve minority rights, but what I am really going to do is to invite you to join me in a series of speculations….
A Letter to My Nephew - I have begun this letter five times and torn it up five times…
Sonny’s Blues - I read about it in the paper, in the subway, on my way to work. I read it, and I couldn’t believe it, and I read it again…

The week started in a very stressful way, so much so that I decided to skip class today. Yesterday was really too much for me with my commute and everything, and at the end of the day I am not missing anything too important with today's lecture. I took this as a way to start working for my English lit exam. I realized I had a pretty big block with it, I just couldn't bring myself to do stuff for this exam because it makes me very nervous (especially writing a paper for it). I decided to start with easy approachable tasks in order to get started and so far it's working. My paper will be on The Merchant Of Venice, which means that I need to reread the play and annotate the useful passages, but before I do that I wanted to write in pen all the annotations I originally wrote in pencil. So this was my main task of the day. Tomorrow I will start my first reread of the play, and once I am done with that I will plan the next move. I feel like this is the best way for me to approach a task that scares me. Just break it down in much smaller tasks and start on the easier ones.
productivity:
read first thing in the morning
small plan of my tasks for the next few days
rewrote in pen my book annotations
run some errands with my mum
updated my reading journal
Irish on duolingo

If you look from above, you can see thousands of stone structures dotting the landscape of the Arabian peninsula. On the ground, you can find a bounty of stone tools and ancient fireplaces scattered along the edges of ancient lakes, as well as rock art depicting hunting and herding scenes in the surrounding mountains. Despite the visibility of these sites, only in the past decade or so have archaeologists taken a dedicated interest in them. Some of the structures have now been dated at up to 10,000 years old. However, the arid climate, baking days and freezing nights, and intense wind erosion are not kind to some of the other relics archaeologists prize. To date, there has been little found in the way of fossils or the kind of deeply buried, layered deposits that can open a window onto the history of a place. Until recently, no archaeologists had surveyed any of the hundreds of caves and lava tubes recorded across northern Arabia. In 2019, our team began to look in these subterranean locations—and in a new study published April 17 in PLoS ONE, we report on the first documented occupation of a lava tube in the Arabian Peninsula.

The second week of University
15th to 21st of April 2024
I am buried under to-do's and oscillate between eager fascination and fatigued stress. Monday, I began practising my conversational Czech, and damn, there is so much room for improvement. Although my professor was happy with my skills, I felt like I barely kept my head above water. Tuesdays are long and filled with administrative tasks and research. I was invited to dinner with my coworkers but instead drove home during the sunset, still feeling somewhat awake and took the dog for an evening round. Even though the discomfort of (possibly) missing out flooded my body, I was so content sharing the nightly silence with only my dog and the slowly darkening sky. On Wednesdays during my history seminar, I have the most interesting discussions and jokes with a classmate, exchanging recommendations for academic literature. A bit of a dry start into Thursday is an obligatory class on professional writing followed by an intimate Russian practice, and I was thrilled to be invited to join the feminist art collective as a coordinator and staff member for the art space. During the weekend, I spent two days with my childhood best friend. We visited an art exhibit and a concert, plus he cooked a delicious Turkish dinner for us to have a heart-to-heart over. Today's Sunday, the end of a busy week and I still have lots of work to finish, including a presentation, a small essay and Czech translations. It's already quite late in the afternoon, and I just came home from my shift at the coffee house.
