((Just as a small celebration of a song's anniversary (one which I heavily associate with Chimizo) I did a redraw of a bloodier panel. This is just a cropped / safe version, the others are under the cut!))

Thank heavens they made it. Hearing the door to Empty Zone slam shut not too far away was the most relieving sound in the world right now. He may be exhausted, nearly depleted of all he had in order to thin out the malicious crowd, but he had accomplished almost everything he wanted to.
Tumblr media
Gasping, Chimizo weakly leered at the reinforced fakes. If he could just keep going, he could do more to assure Peppino and Noise’s victory. Regrettably, he was almost spent. Burning up any extra negative energy would put just about everyone in a dangerous predicament. Their lives were already threatened by the very host which spited them; no need to add a mindless rampaging spirit to the mix.
He only had one other option: to retreat. And he was prepared to do so, had he not been struck by a bizarre cyan wave which had somehow restored his stamina. The only reason he knew this was because he no longer felt fatigued, and the stellar power cloaking his arms had strengthened. Any risk of losing his consciousness had been completely eliminated.
Curious, he stared at his palms. Only one person could have been the source of such a force.
“Death…” The specter murmured, furling his claws. Faintly, he could hear the reaper calling from further up the field. While he was unable make out the exact words, it sounded like it was supposed to be encouraging. He expected no less from the reaper.
A snide smirk crept into his features. “Well. This certainly changes things, now, doesn’t it?”
His metallic limbs made their grand return, hovering over him in a menacing fashion. “While I did say I’m not playing games anymore – I can still have fun with this.” Clenching his fists, he chuckled as another barrier tightly folded over him, becoming cloaked in cosmic darkness almost immediately afterwards.
Tumblr media
“Ready or not— HERE I COME!”
And, like a living bullet, he rushed at them. His speed level might not be a Mach 8 like their originator’s or anything, but he was pretty swift nonetheless, especially given the weight of the spectral steel surrounding him. He plowed through numerous clones as he zipped around with reckless abandon, mirroring their aggression. Those who were rammed into were atomized on contact.
Boisterous laughter boomed behind his shield. They were not the only ones who were going to revel in their violence.
Not to worry. His physical sight may be obscured, but he had his own means of telling if a fellow ally may be nearby. No one was going to be hit by him, not if he could help it.

Really? Really.
That godawful screech alerted Chimizo to what was going on behind them. Glancing over his shoulder, he was absolutely exasperated at this point. If ‘entertainment’ was truly all Fake Noise wanted to give to the world, he would not be this desperate to kill everyone who gathered to support Peppino. He was depraved, not unlike the people the phantom hunted to sustain himself.
And such people really stoked his ire.
Tumblr media
“Keep running and don’t look back!” He called to the group ahead of him. The fog should not be an issue as long as they kept going straight. They had seen where the doors were, and so had he.
Would he even be able to go with them was the question. His supply was not particularly low yet, although he worried it may start to become an issue. Not like he would allow it to deplete anywhere, but it was a grave concern.
Nevertheless. If they were going to make it over there, he had to act.
Swerving around, the limbs sprouted behind him withdrew, replenishing a decent chunk of vitality he was going to need, here. Wreathing his arms in dark flames once more, he increased the power output to blend a touch of deep crimson into the mix, glimmering with miniature stars.
Tumblr media
“If you want them, you’ll have to go through ME first, you COWARDS!”
He outstretched his palms and formed sizable spheres of dark destruction upon them. One by one, he volleyed them at the clones which began to give chase. Each projectile detonated upon impact, spreading wider than what their initial bulk would suggest. Their corrosive energy ate away at the molecular structure of each pack they exploded into, decomposing them atom by atom.
“I’m not playing games anymore. And neither should you.” The apparition snarled. Should any of them even come close to him, they ought to be prepared to taste the same fate, only ten times as painful.

Where were they – ah. He realized, now. The doors. They had not actually disappeared, now, had they? Of course, because the arena had been extended, it would take a lot more running to reach them. Everyone was doing well to head back thus far, but he was not about to risk anything by standing around. Besides, they were going to need all the help they could get.
It was a lot of effort to move with his back blades extended above him like so, yet adrenaline pushed him to speed forward to the best of his ability. He should be able to catch up with the group well enough, and shield them from above once he reached them.
Tumblr media
A tinge of fatigue was sapping away at him. To keep the flow of cosmic energy coursing through the metal was highly taxing and drained his energy reserves very quickly. In spite of this, Chimizo would ignore it for as long as he could, because their safety came first, as it always has.
Always. No matter how hard he might struggle in the moment.

Shield?
To Guard or to Slay.
He was overexerting himself and he knew it. Soul Spirits, or perhaps any ghost for that matter, experienced fatigue differently from mortals. They may not exhaust in the traditional sense, but he had used up quite a bit of his energy reserves, which may as well be similar enough. No aches or pains, just difficulty in moving as fluently as he had been, as his mind and body began to grow numb. If he was going to continue, taking five was his best option.
Obviously, he was not going to rest in the middle of a battlefield. An empty corner was taken up to hunker down and extend his back blades over himself to form a metal barrier of sorts between him and the enemy. If any came close, they would have to wear out his solid defenses first before reaching the worn phantom within.
And boy, did they try. A metal structure sitting around the stands in a circus tent was not inconspicuous in the slightest. Not very long after Chimizo settled down, he could hear them clawing at the foundation of his fort. As well as punching, kicking, ramming, and using all manner of implements in an attempt to bust it open. He was fortunate the ethereal steel his body produced was essentially indestructible, but it was still up to him to hold it in place.
Tumblr media
Just five minutes. Give him five minutes, you scoundrels. Sweat poured down his head as he struggled to keep it together, for the sake of recuperating. His patience, which he usually would have more than enough to spare with organic opponents, was thinning rather quickly. It would not be long his rage overcame him, unable to resist the urge to bust out swinging.
Then, he sensed something. Concentrated energy almost exactly the same as his own approached at a rapid pace, surging and bursting. He was almost hesitant to check on what it may be, given his current state. Closing his eyes, he rested them until he was prepared to retract his extra limbs.
Deep breaths. Keep calm. It would all be over soon, and it would be worth it.
After his small, inner pep-talk, he rose up and found two individuals amidst a pile of orange goop. One a boy, spectral like himself, and the other animal-like in nature. Another one of those Pokémon, if he had to guess.
Tumblr media
“…you’re the ones who defended me, correct?” He sounded bizarrely serene. “It’s appreciated. There’s no need to stand by for me; you may carry on as you were.”

Shield! From none other than 3H, the little bastard ♡
To Guard or to Slay.
Both ghouls had separated somewhere down the line, splitting off to defend anyone in need of a hand. A particular lioness appeared to be struggling greatly, seeing as one of the Fakes managed to leap onto her back. Just one powerful swat of Chimizo’s claws was enough to send it careening off and screaming, shredded in the middle with three vertical lacerations which caused it to fall apart.
These things were becoming more daring, likely because they knew their host was in trouble. The worn specter snorted at the thought, plus the ones who risked encroaching upon him. Row for row, they leapt at him, and he tore into them from the front, back, left, right—anyone would have trouble keeping up with such an ambush, immortal or not.
So it would only stand to reason someone would step in and help.
A sharp crack alerted him to another nearby, wielding a bent golf club and providing a bit of a distraction for the clones to focus on. Of course, they were not counting on one of their own to be snagged and swung around a-la-Mario style to bowl the ones surrounding the newcomer down, then flung at the rest which were close to piling onto the wraith.
This revealed who exactly had decided to lend him aid. Suffice to say, his emotions were… mixed.
Tumblr media
“Even after what I have done, you’d still assist me?” Huffing, he turned to another mass of clones going after their other allies on the field. “You’re a strange one.”
It was a desperate time, sure. But he could hardly understand it.

@thetravelershub A dual defense!
Tumblr media
To Guard or to Slay.
Back into the fray, it was. With their buffs having faded, Death and Chimizo were relegated to utilizing more ordinary attacks to strike back against the multiple menaces still infesting the scene. Physical exhaustion did not come to them easily, thankfully, but the mental taxation of going on and on was clearly whittling them down. Their focus was waning, sticking to one place as the clones kept coming, and eventually, they were surrounded in the worst way possible.
Tumblr media
“Curses…” Chimizo hissed under his breath. He was better than this, he swore he was. But this was much different than cutting down humans who feared you. These critters had very little sense of self-preservation, and were geared towards doing one thing at the moment: taking out anyone who stood in the way of their host’s ambitions.
Tumblr media
“We might… need to fall back.” Death hovered backwards towards the brighter specter, perspiring more than he would like to admit. Do not ask how a skeleton was capable of this; he was built different.
Their opponents were dangerously close and looked about to lunge. If they did not escape now, it could be bad for them – or solely Death, given his lack of ghostly abilities. The both of them scowled uneasily, waiting for a good opening to bolt. But the duplicates leapt at them in an inverse tidal wave, one which they would not be able to squeeze through.
Chimizo was prepared to take the brunt of it, if it meant keeping the grim reaper safe. Blades sprang from his back and hovered over him like a sharp umbrella, bracing for the weight of dozens of ankle-biters to crash upon him.
But it never came.
Like a whirlwind, another shade of orange came zipping through at Mach speeds, bulldozing through the mass and destabilizing it with such astounding ease. The ghost’s eyes snapped open to catch but a glimpse of who had rescued them in the nick of time, staring in sheer disbelief as the Peppino clone rushed off elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Death slowly blinked as he rose, having trouble registering what had just happened. “What was…?”
His associate straightened somewhat, appearing to be perturbed about something. “Another one of Peppino’s duplicates – meaning an ally.” Given he was only supposed to know him as Charles, he omitted his familiarity to be safe.
Tumblr media
“…we have no time to dwell on it, anyhow. Let’s keep moving.”
He did a poor job at hiding his concern, as Death did cast him a look which suggested he knew Chimizo was deep in thought about something. Regardless, he was right, so they dashed away to keep the Fakes off their tails, all while cutting down any which stood in their path.
It was all they could do, in spite of what Chimizo saw in that split second: a frenzied face unbefitting of the oblivious yet friendly frog. One which reminded him of another clone who was not nearly as kind.

They ‘fell in,’ huh? Then a door must have been left lying around, without a Pizzahead to explain anything. Was that worse? Well, it was certainly irresponsible. Not like there was anything they could do about it, now. At the very least, giving the kids something to swing at these things should at least help until they can be escorted back home.
“I would,” Chimizo answered the teen very simply, seeing as they were about to be swarmed again. Good thing they were in a group, since it meant they could clear out the rogue rapscallions much more easily for the time being.
Just to give the strange duo a good head start, both ghouls swatted away a decent number more, leaving piles of ooze in their wake. Although they were focused, they were also relieved they could provide assistance to people who needed it.
“Of course,” the pale phantom responded once more before he waved and chopped up a clone which came up next to him. Death could not bring himself to speak in turn, but he did appear to nod if any attention was being given to his movements.
When it seemed things were going to be alright, both Death and Chimizo began to move along in another direction. The deity appeared a tad concerned as he glanced back to look at the kemono, who appeared to be distorting a decent bit.
Tumblr media
“Do you think that one will be okay? They look rather…”
Tumblr media
“…unstable? Unfortunately, I don’t believe either of us can do anything about that.”
Neither had the time to figure out what it may mean, so they would have to move on and hope for the best.
Yeah, this was happening. Might as well embrace it, right?
The two younger ones, still slightly panicking in the chaos, were glad for the reprieve. It gave them both a moment to think, and to actually take in the scene around them.
One of their saviors was obviously some form of the grim reaper, based on the scythe and skull motif, the other seemed to be... well, some other type of ghost. Impressive claws!
Most importantly, they noticed how easily the clones were being taken down. One hit, and they disintegrated!
Tumblr media
As Chimizo vanishes briefly, Crimson shouts up to Death. "Um, yeah, about that, mister reaper, sir! Uh, we didn't mean to come here! We fell in!"
More like, got dragged in. But they weren't going to get into the specifics of how the rule of funny screwed them over.
Tumblr media
"...Do we just hit them as hard as we can-!?" Grey gladly accepts the hockey stick, especially seeing as how Crimson was... probably too short to properly use it.
Crimson accepts the golf club. She's still unstable, pixels materializing at random...
Tumblr media
But they're ready this time! She jumps into the fray besides Death, overhead swinging the golf club down through a clone. Hole in one! It explodes in a cheesy mass.
Grey positions himself next to her, swinging the hockey stick at any clone that tried to attack. Ah, his old baseball training was paying off again. This was easy! Why were they so panicked?
"Thanks for the help, guys!" Grey calls pver his shoulder. Well, at least someone wasn't gonna leave them for dead. A fight to the end, it is.
Tumblr media
Crimson's pixels turn frenzied as they keep getting clone after clone. The smell of static is in the air! "KILL."

We are not letting this happen again. @tetramulti
The pair obviously needed time to recuperate after nearly being dogpiled by those fiends, so their saviors went about tearing away at any others who dared to draw close.
“These youths clearly were caught unaware. They would have been fighting alongside everyone else, otherwise.” Chimizo noted, volleying a few crackling spheres of negative energy to burst in the faces of the oncoming enemies.
Death did not reply at first. Displeasure scrunched his brows at the thought of children being dragged into this chaos without consent. The one who sent them here was corrupt enough to create the big boss they were striving to weaken, so was it really out there for him to do something like that, too?
Tumblr media
“Just about everyone else is armed in some way or another. They might have a fighting chance if provided with a weapon.”
Neither of them particularly loved the idea, but how else were they supposed to defend themselves otherwise? Given a pause in the fighting, they glanced to each other, understanding what they were thinking merely by expression alone.
Loosing a yielding sigh, the white wraith requested, “If any more of them show up; cover us. I should be able to find something.”
His darker comrade, bewildered, stared at him dubiously before shaking away his doubts and turning to the crowd. Any clones who noticed them would be swiftly terminated by his blade, slicing in all manner of directions to ensure he hit every target.
Tumblr media
While Death safeguarded them, Chimizo hooked his claws and concentrated. The shadows dancing along his arms began to glimmer, and, swiping above himself, a crimson rift full of stars was torn open. He was quick to shove his entire upper body through it, seeming to rummage around until he dropped back down and willed the opening to close.
In his beastly hands were two sports implements: a thick hockey stick and a heavyset driver golf club. Floating over to the two he and Death were defending, he held them out in offering. “Here. It’s better to have something to protect yourselves with. Choose whichever one suits either of you best.”

BLAM, BLAM, BLAM!Rocket after rocket was accelerated as they were shot into the rift, and given the shadows coating their form, the very nature of the projectiles had in fact been altered. They still maintained their usual boosting effect, but their harmless configuration was no more. Numerous fakes were blown to smithereens from the other side of the room, flying harder and faster than they would have if a regular non-Jumper missile had hit them.
Strange how, if a piece of their debris touched another clone, they kind of… fizzled and popped, melting into puddles of black, glimmering sludge.
Chimizo did not know where Jae’s soldier-like behavior came from, but he smirked nonetheless. Even if they were in a precarious situation, that did not mean they should shy away from having a little fun with it. Hence why he even offered in the first place.
Tumblr media
“Excellent work.” He snickered, holding out a hand to her. His claws were furled in to form a fist, which may have seemed odd, at first. Thinking a little harder may make it clear what he was wordlessly suggesting.
Did he actually want to…?
Tumblr media
@kxllerclaws asked:
“Mind attempting a little experiment with me?” Somehow, Chimizo managed to keep level with Jae as she launched herself into the air, over and over again. “I just need you to fire a good number of those rockets into there, if you will.” He gestured to a portal he made in the floor, which was not too far from them. Some of the clones were foolish enough to fall into it, though he did not seem to care much about that. This was mainly because there was another portal positioned in the enormous space, placed in a wall. It was directed towards an area of the ‘arena’ where there were far too many duplicates to rush into safely. While the Fake Noises which dropped into the other one had been launched back out through the second, it was hardly enough to make much of a dent. Strangely, it also seemed they were shrouded with the dark energy the ghost typically used to strengthen his moves. The rockets may be harmless normally, but how would they be affected when enhanced by his own power?
Honestly, she might've been more spooked had it not been for the high adrenaline telling her that anything not shaped like the primary threat wasn't an issue. During her jumping a good whiles around the entire arena and seeing many faces, familiar and unfamiliar, she couldn't help but keep glancing on stage. Peppino AND Noise had to be enough to take this guy down, right? Especially if the counter-crowd was contributing something to it all...
Tumblr media
She's a bit glad the other isn't going 'what the heck are you doing, that's dangerous'. The two were WELL past that point now but that would've been a bit funny.
At the other's instruction, she was going to explain like a nerd that the Rocket Jumper didn't do damage to users or opponents. It was used to encourage different playstyles or even quick movement in specific matches. But given that she was blasting at her own feet and they're still there, she thinks that's obvious.
Admittedly, despite the seriousness of the broader situation, this does seem like some sort of dream for her. She's very good at replicating actions she sees others do. This clearly isn't something she does often, believe it or not. You really have to embrace the absurdity of it to not go completely mad. So, well--
"Sir, yes sir!" She pocketed the market gardener for now again, thanks pocket organization 101, as she stomped on another Fake Noise before launching herself high up in the air and gripping the Rocket Jumper with both hands.
"We are not trapped in a facility full of clones. You are all trapped in here with US!"
The B.A.S.E Jumper on her back opened up a small parachute that kept her from falling fast again as she shot out a burst of rockets at the portal. While it seemed stupid on paper, well. She wouldn't be surprised if that... What did Chimizo use again? Was it magi--... Whatever. She wouldn't be surprised if the ghost powers turned those into normal damaging crits rockets.

Chimizo was, in fact, on the offensive the very instant that door materialized out of absolutely nowhere. For all he knew, one of Fake Noise’s cronies could be on the other side – and while he was not entirely correct, the relevancy this new character had in the plot could not have been any less favorable.
Tumblr media
Regardless, he did stand down, albeit begrudgingly, when Jae gestured for him and the rest of the self-appointed guards to. He was on edge for a good while, given who this person was and what he did. Still, they were being given an offer they could not exactly refuse, now, could they?
Although he was not exactly thrilled with the idea of the villagers coming to fight along with them. At least Jae had seen combat in her lifetime, and had demonstrated her resourcefulness in sticky situations before. The others had lived relatively peaceful lives until now, so he could not help but wonder how they planned on contributing to such a battle. He supposed he would just have to see, and perhaps look out for them where he could.
While he did have this in mind, he did not quite expect to be shoved in with everyone else. This was likely due to his protective instincts kicking in, moving to hold as many as he could and remain corporeal, but who knew, exactly?
He really wanted to ask where the random weapons came from. Suddenly, all of the critters he was worried about having no means of defending themselves were armed with all manner of instruments of destruction. Which was good, because they were immediately surrounded as soon as they were booted in.
Snarling, the specter flaunted his claws and prepared to strike. Before he did, however, he noted how the villagers were deliberating on a strategy. Should he give him a chance? They might be able to overcome the enemies through sheer number alone, which was a tactic he never had much faith in, but they could prove him wrong.
And prove him wrong they did. Charging forward, they went to town on their opponents with plenty of gusto. Hopefully they would be fine.
As for the others, well. All he needed to see were the Miis plus Jae 2 wailing on a bunch of copies while Jae herself leapt around decimating every hellion surrounding her, wielding a multitude of destructive instruments for the job. They were set.
Now, it was his turn. These weaklings did not require the full extent of his power to raze, so he amplified the strength of his blades to a mild degree by charging them with a low dosage of negative energy, shimmering red. His eyes narrowed sharply as he threw himself into a nearby group and slashed away. He was in such a mad frenzy he caught attention of quite a few spares who saw him as an easy target. Pivoting, he did away with them before they could even latch onto him.
Maybe it would be better for him to go all out, in this case. Slowly, he backed away as he considered switching maneuvers, only to lose his train of thought when he felt something graze him from behind.
A second swift turn greeted him with a ghoul he recognized.
Tumblr media
“You—? Again?” Death asked incredulously, just as astounded as he was to meet here of all places.
It was a pleasant coincidence, but there was no time for pleasantries. A swarm of Fake Noise clones was scuttling towards them. “We can discuss how we keep ending up in situations like these later.” Chimizo hunched, increasing the output of energy flowing through his arms. Scarlet dulled to black, and the shadows which wreathed his sharp digits writhed in anticipation. “For now, let’s show these fools we mean business.”
Dryly, the reaper let out a small laugh. “Of course.” He prepped his scythe to swing. “Let’s.”
Together, the pair of apparitions lunged forward, crossing each other as they sliced through a multitude of foes. They decidedly kept up the pressure by continuing to combine their attacks, doing so to deal greater damage at a wider range. Their souls were completely in sync, thrumming in tandem while they synchronized their moves to fell wave after wave.
Both of them had come here for the same reason. To stop this madness, for the good of all. Nothing was going to stop them as they carried on, keeping up the rhythm they had going, devastating the masses in a seemingly endless combo. Even if the little creeps managed to touch them, what were they going to do to those who were already beyond living?
They seemed to smirk to themselves, finding confidence in the fact.
It was time to end this charade.

Okay, good, his hunch was correct. This did not change the fact it had become very loud in the room and he was going to need to hunker down for a bit.
Tumblr media
Chimizo pretty much sunk onto that floor, waiting for the energy to die down. Even if it was a little overwhelming, at least the screams were not screams of horror.

Shoulders hunched. All throughout that short bout, it was obvious Peppino was at a disadvantage. This creature had been given too much power by his horrid creator, whoever they were. And now… were they really just going to be forced to sit and watch the end?
His claws became tinged with a dark energy. Stars sparkled across them. If he just had the right signature on him, maybe this would not have to be the case.
Tumblr media
For now, he had to hope for a miracle. And he was going to attempt to block as many eyes as possible, just in case.

“…”
Tumblr media
A scowl not unlike someone else’s thinned his crimson eyes into slits. This entire time, he was invested in the combat particularly from a technical standpoint. Chimizo did not want Peppino to die, obviously, but there was something about the way the two were fighting which felt less like it were to the death. There were high stakes, yes, and yet, both were being as showy as possible, intentional or not.
They were fighters, through and through. And the opposite, with how he ended the match on such a note, only to end up as he did… it said something to him.
He would react the same way, honestly. The dastard was deserving of nothing more. Thankfully, the beast was not made of flesh or blood, so perhaps it would not be as frightening for those watching. Yet he really wondered if, regardless of that, anyone in this room would be fine after observing all that they had.
