“ hey yourself . ” it’s a pathetic response , he’s fully aware of it , but he’s not sure where he’s supposed to take their conversation given the extent to which is left up in the air between them . a part of him was hurt from the space they took between them : a mutual agreement to preserve their friendship , yes , but he’d be lying if he were to say that a part of him didn’t want to know where their developments could lead . “ no worries . you know me . i don’t have shit to do . i didn’t even notice . ” he bites back the awkwardness in the realization of his words — he doesn’t even know why the fuck he just said that , of course he had noticed her absence , the hover of his fingers over every text he wanted to send but didn’t . “ happy to see you though , ” he adds quickly , covering for his mistake , before he’s caught off guard by her grasp on him . she smells the same , he notes to himself , returning her hug with a gentle squeeze as his eyes shut , holding onto the moment as fleeting as it is . she pulls away and he follows , rubbing at his jaw in the realization of just how much self - control they’ll have to exercise between them now with things being so different . “ i’ve been practicing for a new skate video . i’m supposed to post one by friday for this brand i’m working with but my vlogging schedule has gotten in the way so i’m fucked and cutting it way too close . my dumb ass , ” he snorts at himself , falling back onto the couch . “ what about you ? anything new ? ”
the smallest smile occupies her gentle features as he responds to her greeting . she avoids keeping the hug longer than a few seconds , knowing that any physical contact between them might just cause the feelings she was trying her best to force down come to the surface . his next words catch her off guard , and brows automatically furrow . turning again to face him , karina keeps the confused expression on her face as she catches his gaze . “ oh , really ? you didn’t even notice ? not like we used to spend everyday together or anything , ” she responds , sarcasm dripping in her tone before she covers it with a smile . karina simply let him know with that she was teasing , although deep down she couldn’t help but consider his statement seriously . however - the brunette’s quick to let it go , plopping herself down on his couch , pulling her phone out of her back pocket as she did so and sliding off her nikes . “ oh .. damn , ” she listens to his dilemma , turning her head again to follow him . “ do you need any help ? ” she offers with a sympathetic expression . “ i’m sure you’ll figure it out , dude . ” karina pouts slightly to herself . “ yeah i’ve been working at that gym i train at , actually . since i’m in off season , i figured i should at least be productive somehow , ” she chuckles dryly . “ i’ve been uh , training milo . you guys are friends , right ? ”

juni didn’t hate galas . let’s start there . her least favorite thing about them was the amount of people she’d have to shake hands with because her parents did business with them and ‘ you’ve grown into such a fine young woman ! ’ , when in reality , she was a nasty woman . point blank . she spent more time with her dress around her waist with some billionaire’s son ( or daughter ) in the powder room that was far too small for two bodies than interacting with the most important people she’d ever meet . in truth , galas were boring , but what happened in the unoccupied rooms of the venues were ten times more interesting . after gaining the apparent stranger’s attention , juni bounces off of the couch and picks up the skirt of the dress to avoid tripping . once she’s settled , she finally looks up at who she called out to , and her heart could have fallen right out of her ass . karina was the last person that she expected to run into on that day , but necessarily for a bad reason . the last time that she’d been around karina in an intimate setting had been a long time ago , and she ruined whatever semblance of a relationship that they had when she promptly ghosted karina without a second thought . goes to show how much common courtesy she has for someone else’s feelings . ‘ hi , ’ she parrots , and nervously pats her hands against the dress . juni was fully expecting for karina to lash out at her ─ to curse at her , to yell at her until she turned red in the face , or even punch her . the feeling of being punched would have been better than the feeling that’s slowly beginning to overwhelm her . ‘ oh please , ’ juni hums , although the desire to get caught up in the compliment scratches the back of her tongue . ‘ i don’t think it fits me right . it’s kind of itchy , ’ it’s a lie , clearly . ‘ how … how have you been ? ’
the events that spiraled between them & ended in complete silence hit karina like a punch in the face , the kind of punch that knocked her out . it was the first time in a long time she’d opened herself up to the idea of falling in love with someone , because she really thought the other girl felt the same way . giving her all the signals & reassurances that caused karina to trust her with her heart , something she didn’t do with just anyone . just for it all to be thrown back in her face . the anxiety sets in when she catches juni gaze , & hears her voice fill the silence . she immediately hates the situation , dreading the following moments as they come way faster than she could prepare herself for . karina can’t help but roll her eyes only slightly at juni’s words , & as much as she had the urge to just pick up her feet & bolt out of that room , she forced herself to keep them planted where she stood . she really couldn’t push away the desire to speak to juni , after left wondering what she did wrong . “ i’m good , yeah . how are you ? ” karina asks , trying to be polite . “ you know it’s actually so funny we ran into each other considering i got the impression you never wanted to see my face again , ” clearly it didn’t last long . she offers a sarcastic smile , arms crossing over her torso .

“cross my heart.” she motioned over her chest to match her words. her head nodded as her mouth open to agree with karina, “yeah, busy is good. at least, it always has been for me. people think i’m too busy, but i think it’s just enough.” phaedra settled. she did just as instructed, staying pleasantly quiet in her place watching her friend’s every move. smoke filling the air between them allowing her nose to be filled with the sweet aroma she was ever familiar with. taking the wrapped leaf into her right hand’s fingers, she shook her head excitedly as her mouth filled with smoke, “dude, yes!” she finally exclaimed allowing the smoke to pour out. “i’ve heard that’s sooo good. my mom told me to watch it forever ago, but time slipped away..” she giggled knowing she had simply forgotten. “bitch, you would want something twisted; but, i’m here for it.” she puffed on the blunt again before passing it back to karina all in the same motion grabbing her arm to pull her towards the theater room. “get the supplies for at least two episodes nnn lesssgo.” her eyes motioned towards the room.
“ good , ” she offers a sweet smile in response . “ who cares about what people think ? they all suck anyway , ” karina huffs , waving her hand in dismiss . a light chuckle escaped her peach - painted lips as phae spoke again , her gaze staying stuck on the other girl . “ ugh , yes your mom knows what’s up . we’ll watch it tonight ? you’ll definitely like it , i have no doubt , ” she offers another soft smile , before taking the blunt back when she offered it . karina can’t help but laugh at phaedra’s comment , nodding her head . “ of course . twisted is the most fun to watch , ” she chuckles in response . karina raises her brows & nods her head at phae’s suggestion to head into the theatre . placing the lit blunt between her lips , karina grabs a few off the counter , lighter already slipped into her pocket . she grabs her bacardi & bottle of pepsi . taking phae’s hand with her free one , she follows the girl into the room , light smile still painted on her features .
