New Guidelines Crack Down on Coaching Centres: Ministry Sets Strict Rules to Ensure Student Well-being
In a significant move to regulate the burgeoning coaching industry, the Ministry of Education has recently announced a set of comprehensive guidelines aimed at ensuring the well-being of students and curbing malpractices within coaching centres. The guidelines address a range of issues, from age restrictions to misleading promises, and even include provisions for mental health support.
Tumblr media
Age Restrictions and Misleading Promises:
One of the key provisions outlined in the new guidelines is the prohibition of coaching centres from enrolling students below the age of 16. This measure aims to protect younger students from potential academic pressures and create a more suitable learning environment. Additionally, coaching centres are now barred from making misleading promises or guaranteeing ranks or high marks to students or their parents.
Financial Penalties for Malpractices:
To enforce compliance, the Ministry has introduced a financial penalty of up to Rs one lakh or, in severe cases, cancellation of the coaching centres’ registration. This stern measure is specifically targeted at curbing exorbitant fees and other malpractices reported in various coaching institutes.
Qualifications of Tutors and Counselling Systems:
According to the guidelines, coaching centres are now mandated to ensure that their tutors hold qualifications of at least graduation level. Moreover, an institute’s registration is contingent upon the establishment of a counselling system, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being for students facing tough competition and academic pressures.
Transparency through Websites:
To promote transparency, coaching centres are required to maintain updated websites detailing information about tutor qualifications, courses, curriculum, duration of completion, hostel facilities, and fees. This measure aims to empower students and parents with the necessary information for making informed decisions about their education.
Mental Well-being Support:
Recognizing the increasing instances of student suicides and academic pressure, the guidelines emphasize the need for coaching centres to prioritize the mental well-being of their students. This includes establishing mechanisms for immediate intervention in distressing situations and providing information about psychologists and counsellors.
Fair Tuition Fees and Refund Policies:
The guidelines also ensure that coaching centres charge fair and reasonable tuition fees for different courses. In case a student decides to leave a course mid-way, provisions for a pro-rata refund within 10 days are specified. Hostel fees and mess fees will also be refunded under such circumstances.
State Oversight and Registration:
To ensure effective monitoring, the Central government has proposed the registration of new and existing coaching centres within three months of the guidelines coming into effect. State governments will be responsible for monitoring activities and ensuring that coaching centres fulfill the required eligibility for registration.
In conclusion, these guidelines mark a crucial step in the regulation of coaching centres, aiming not only to maintain academic integrity but also to prioritize the well-being of students. It is expected that these measures will bring about a positive transformation in the coaching industry, creating a more conducive learning environment for students across the country.

CUET PG 2024: Exciting Updates on Test Centers, Website, and Registration Fees!
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) PG 2024 is bringing in some noteworthy changes, making the examination process even more accessible and user-friendly. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recently announced the addition of two new test cities, Gurugram in Haryana and Srinagar, providing candidates with more options and convenience.
Tumblr media
In response to requests from candidates and stakeholders, the NTA took the decision to enhance the examination infrastructure by including these two new test cities. This move comes after the earlier reduction of exam city centres from 337 in 2023 to 300 in India. The NTA is committed to ensuring the comfort and accessibility of candidates throughout the examination process.
For those who have already submitted their application forms, the NTA is allowing edits to the choice of examination centre during the correction window. The agency will make efforts to allocate the preferred city of examination based on the Correspondence Address or Permanent Address provided by the candidates. The NTA emphasizes that its decision on allotment of Centre City will be final.
A notable change this year is the modification of the CUET PG website, which is now accessible at pgcuet.samarth.ac.in. This update aims to streamline the online experience for candidates, providing a more efficient and user-friendly interface.
However, along with these positive changes, there is a slight adjustment in the registration fees. Candidates will now pay Rs 1,200 if they belong to the general category, while those under OBC-NCL/Gen-EWS will contribute Rs 1,000. Moreover, the fees for additional test papers have increased from Rs 500 to Rs 600 this year. For applicants outside India applying for up to two tests, the fees are now Rs 6,000, with Rs 2,000 for each additional paper. It's worth noting that these changes mark a Rs 200 increase across all categories compared to the previous year.
In summary, the CUET PG 2024 is shaping up to be an examination that prioritizes candidate convenience, with the addition of new test centres and an updated website. While there are slight adjustments in registration fees, these changes are geared towards enhancing the overall examination experience for candidates. Aspiring postgraduate students should keep an eye on these updates and ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming CUET PG 2024.

Kerala Governor Accuses Chief Minister Vijayan of Orchestrating Physical Harm Plot
Tumblr media
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan alleges Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s involvement in a conspiracy to physically harm him. The governor, visibly angered, claims his vehicle was targeted, linking the incident to Vijayan’s orchestrated plan. Khan asserts that the state’s constitutional machinery seems to be faltering amid these developments.
Ongoing protests, particularly from CPM’s SFI, against the governor’s university senate appointments have intensified the political tensions. The Kerala Congress joins in, blaming Vijayan for alleged attacks on its activists during the Nava Kerala Sadas protests.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan accuses the chief minister of endorsing violence against protestors and condoning attacks. Satheesan deems Vijayan’s threats against opposition members as inappropriate for someone holding the position of chief minister, further fueling the political turmoil in the state.
