Swifties using this as a rebuttal that her bad reviews were done in haste when in reality, and as the article clearly calls out, it was the "favorable" reviews that were done in haste. The bad reviews came out much later than the ones who said the album was an instant classic. There has to be something more to just dumbing yourself down for Taylor Swift to be considered her devoted fan. There has got to be more to life than that for these incorrigible swifties.

Sabrina is recently climbing up the charts and being recognized for her work, and that honestly scares me as a carpenter. There are a lot of swifties that like sabrina, but the problem is they were also Olivia fans and look at how they treated her. Me as a carpenter don't even have any beef with Olivia or her fans because in my mind I guess that whole drama was created by swifties who liked Olivia cause Taylor supported her back then and now that Olivia was threatening Taylor's position in the industry they turned on her as it was a direct repercussion of Taylor coming for the song credits on deja vu. Every fandom has their rotten eggs, I'm not saying it was completely the swifties, but I'm scared this is also going to sabrina when she releases her new album and if it threatens their favorite.

I think a lesser acknowledged aspect of how bad 'but daddy I love him' is is that -just like she did with mental illness and being institutionalized- she's appropriating trauma. There are so many real victims of small-town conservative purity culture. It's an extremely abusive environment, especially if you're a minority and it can in no way be compared to a billionaire receiving fairly mild backlash for dating a racist.

I really do think becoming famous so young and having people calling her a child prodigy and giving her all those Grammys stunted her. If at 19 she was already being hailed as a genius then it may have put her in a bubble. I really think people forget just how much the critics adored her in the late 2000s because they want to think she was an underdog. Compare 2009 era Taylor to Miley who was treated as just a teen idol with a few hits and you see my point. This is why that Castles Crumbling song on Speak Now TV felt random, what even was happening to her in 2010 to make her feel like she was losing everything? She was doing better than most singers were especially ones in her age range. It felt like another example of something she may have made recently post breakup and tried to pass off as old.

I successfully avoided her for like 15 years, I only knew of that one song about sneakers and bleachers. I accidentally clicked on an ad about how she types on a keyboard, and my feed has been POISONED. She is everywhere, oozing from every recommendation like a slime mold

So maybe her music is good, I don’t know after all. I listen, in a damn incognito window this time, and no. It is not good. It is the definition of milquetoast.

So now I can’t escape posts frothing at the mouth about how this mediocre pop star is a visionary. My tumblr algorithm is attached to her like a particularly virulent strain of herpes

thinking about how back when noah kahan’s stick season song blew up, it was EVERYWHERE. and people started finding that specific song annoying. but no one was really saying ‘noah kahan is so annoying’, it was ‘this song is so annoying’ because it was everywhere.

but with taylor, it’s not just her songs. it’s the songs and the articles about her relationship and the stories on the news all about her. she’s inescapable. you hear her songs everywhere, her face is everywhere, you hear her name everywhere. and it’s exhausting. it’s why ‘taylor swift is annoying’ is said so so much.

noah kahan minded his own business when his song blew up. he thanked his fans, went about his life. you wouldn’t know what he looked like unless you went looking and his personal life isn’t splashed over the front page. but taylor, who is way less active than noah on social media, still makes her way into every corner of people’s lives which is why people are getting tired of her.

the music isn’t as good as folklore / evermore, her constant presence is annoying and top it off, hardcore swifties are the worst people to encounter. so all her fans saying that the ‘bandwagon swifties’ are getting off because they just don’t get the real taylor make me laugh. people are getting sick of her being everywhere and her music quality is going severely downhill. that’s why people are leaving, not because they’re too ‘dumb’ to understand ttpd.

i miss the time when she was radio silent and we’d get maybe one blurry photo of her and joe every six months. she truly peaked back then.
